What's In Your Nose? #13 (Part 2)

What you’re describing is very smilar to the Toque pouch. They are indeed excellent and seal perfectly, but tubs also seal better than you might think. Still, tubs do have a portion of wasted space and don’t lend themselves so well to efficient packaging.

Three months on a shelf is much fresher than necessary for well sealed tins, but I guess it’s better to have very fresh snuff than take a chance on less than fresh product. Ironically I read more complaints from new snuffers relating to very fresh snuff, than I do about dried out product. It’s amazing how many people refuse to consider the simple premise of airing fresh snuff.

McChrystal’s packaging is something to behold with odd sizes and arbitrary availability of different snuffs in each of those sizes.

3.5g, 4.4g, ‘large’ 8.75g and 21g. I’m sure there’s some historic reason for those sizes, but on the surface it all appears rather odd.

Smaller tins make sense, bearing in mind that McCh don’t produce their snuff from scratch.

Sadly, well sealed are only vacuum-sealed tins.

I don’t follow. By all means offer small sizes, but I can’t imagine making a bulk purchase of Jip! or Sturco in tiny tins.

I would like to know the history of how McChrystals ended up with these odd tin sizes.

The bulk O&G needs to be at significant discount vs tins or it wouldn’t be worth buying and decanting since jars aren’t always free and buying new ones would offset any savings from the bulk order.

Sometimes I buy a bunch of 21g tins instead of buying a tub because the per gram price for a tub isn’t much lower than the tin price. I wrap electrical tape around the tins and it’s keeping the snuff fresher than if it was in the tub with increasing air space.

It’s Poschl Kloster Andechs in my nose now.

Fribourg and Treyer - Dr. J. R. Justice. To me this is very similar to Princess but less aromatic and with a whisper of menthol that keeps it fresh in the nose.

Perlesreuter from a new shipment that just came today. It’s very pleasant but it’s not as rich in scent as Bayern-Prise. Maybe I need to order Doppelaroma to get large quantity Bayern-Prise scent.

I saw a recent post from Roderick that said Sudfrucht is in his top 10 sellers list. This surprised me as I thought it must be some sweet dessert Schmalzler.

de Kralingse - Prins Regent. Has held up remarkably well. A Joy to use

Fribourg and Treyer - Old Paris. Dry, low level aroma, easy to enjoy

They buy base snuff from the mills (current supplier is WoS). Shrinked tin sizes is their strategy, employed to maintain profit margins. That’s a whole story, @FLA.

Still struggling with a nasty cold, plus the dry winter air not helping, some gawith original is sitting nicely now. Ill be happy when im back to 100% and can hoover up schmalzlers and the coarse dark snuffs i enjoy

Some McChrystals tin sizes do have an internal logic . A 3.5 is an eighth of an ounce . An 8.75g is a quarter and a sixteenth or 5/16ths and 21 is three quarters of an ounce . The 4.4 g however , makes no sense at all :stuck_out_tongue:  .

SG Firedance . . Been passing round a tin at my mates house last night and today . Went down very well with everyone , particularly with the younger men in their 20s. Just put the tin out and let them go nuts . I even had them doing a bit of Grand Cairo later

You’re training them up right with Grand Cairo!

I’m having Wilson’s SM Gold. It’s very good. Clean. No drip. Easy to use alot in large pinches. Not as interesting as O&G but it’s a good medicated at a better price point for bulk purchase.

I like it alot better than any other Wilson’s menthol product except M. Root, and I’ve had most of them.

It’s Bernard Charivari in my nose right now.

Sir Walter Scott’s - Mull of Oa. One of my favorites from this creator. Fairly coarse grind, dry. Quite smokey. Absolutely delightful with a dram of peaty Scotch.

Bernard Steife Prise again.
