@bigmick: it arrived in one piece alright but it looked like it had been bounced around a little bit. Just a suggestion - you could mail future issues in those waterproof jiffy/bubblewrap bags to protect them a little bit more. It seems a shame people are receiving your excellent magazine in less than excellent shape due to the clumsiness of the postal services.
@bigmick and @snuffpub Thank goodness I wasn’t one of the unlucky few. My copy arrived in pristine condition. I’m extremely impressed with the hand numbering and signing of the first 500 copies! Keep up the awesome work guys, and thanks for straightening my misinformed tail out on the cost…this is one publication that I never want to be without! I can’t wait for the next issue!! @Roderick, no worries on that score. We have a few years worth of historical stuff to print and with the new contributors lining to help out we should be able to offer interesting content for quite a while. @toffeenose, we’ll look into better envelopes for overseas shipments, but we’re trying to keep shipping costs down. It’s a fine line to walk.
@bigmick: I totally understand the need to keep postal costs down - I work in mail order myself. If you buy the envelopes/mailers in bulk it’ll keep overheads lower. It’s much better to have to spend a few extra pennies making sure your product arrives safely than having to pay more to replace/re-ship damaged items.
I ordered a copy yesterday, excited to read it.
I think what we’ll probably end up doing is to offer another shipping option. We can ship it boarded, bagged and in a padded envelope if the customer wants to pay extra for it.
I would pay extra for the added protection. My issue arrived ok, but I’ve had some things arrive in the mail that were in pretty bad shape.
I went ahead and added the new option to the site. If you choose ECONOMY shipping, it’s mailed the same way we’ve been sending them out, in a regular envelope. STANDARD costs a little extra, but it comes in a sturdy envelope and it’s bagged and boarded (like a comic book). The bags are watertight, so I doubt there will be any issues with moisture with this service.

Thanks Bodger! Our goal is to listen to what the people want, and accommodate them as best we can. Same with our content; if a bunch of people tell me that an article was lousy, you won’t have to worry about seeing anything similar down the road. Even though we’re a tiny operation right now, I promise that we’ll always keep this same policy no matter how large our circulation gets.
As soon as I get moved into my new house and address changed I’m ordering this and the new and improved first issue.
I love the mag, but I didn’t think the big article on the fake maryjane was ontopic.
