Hi, I didn’t see this in the search, so I guess it hasn’t been mentioned. But I suspect many of you might find this interesting. A brand new print magazine for snuff, and smokeless. The Snuff Takers Ephemeris. http://www.stephemeris.com/ I just got the premire issue yesterday myself. And it’s really well done, and mainly covers nasal snuff, and snus. It’s a little non-pro in it’s production, meaning it’s not like a slick mag at the store, but not in a bad way at all, it’s very well done, and obviously a labor of love. It has many good articles, and even some old adverts, and it’s really thick, 80 pages, and it’s rather cheap under $6, for being a niche mag. Yeah, I am plugging it, but I am not a part of it, I just think this would interest members here, and it’d be sad if such an effort died out for lack of interest.
Mentioned here: http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/4309/
Oops, well, it won’t be the first time that happens. Anyway, I actually got the mag, and this has a better title for search. I searched under Ephemeris, Snuff Takers, and Snuff magazine, and got nothing related. And I give it a mini review here too. Let’s keep this as the offical post.
I preordered it but I’m in the UK so I’m still waiting for it to arrive. Unfortunately I got hit with a nasty £1.50 paypal charge on top of the cover price and shipping that wasn’t mentioned before I purchased, making it a little more than I’m willing to pay tbh. It’s a shame but I probably won’t be buying another issue.
That’s too bad. I think it’s even at some newstands if I read the website right. I didn’t see any additional charge for me, I’m in the US too. It says DeVoe even had a Medicated snuff, along with a veriety of European styles, I thought that was interesting. I think it also has an article on Wilson’s Mill. I haven’t read it all yet.
Looking forward to my copy. If they’ve been mailed out, I should have it today as well.
I searched using the “comments” feature. Although this isn’t a duplicate thread, I’d like to go on record as saying duplicate threads don’t bother me at all. I believe I have started at least two duplicate threads (unwittingly, and after searching!) in my time here, and the sun still rises every morning. Thanks for the mini-review!
How the heck did you get it so fast? I pre-ordered weeks ago and am still waiting on it. Preorders were shipped yesterday, you must be really close to the supplier to have received it so fast though.
@ Tom502, Thanks for the plug and kind words. Although I second the “how did you get it so fast?” I’m the freakin’ Editor and don’t have my final copy yet. @ streetcarp, I can’t explain the paypal charge, but I can say I’m surprised to hear about a shipping charge. I am checking into it, and will get back to you via whisper after I get an answer.
@bigmick: Sorry, my comment wasn’t very clear. What I meant was I knew exactly how much the magazine and shipping was going to cost but I was surprised when I was hit by another paypal charge on top of that. This charge didn’t show up until after I authorised the transaction, so I was a bit p’d off to say the least. I paid the $6.99 to you guys and then paypal took another £1.50 GBP for their own pockets. It’s nothing to do with anything you guys have done and I’m sorry if I gave the impression it was.
Mick just informed me of your problem streetcarp. Please let me know your paypal information so I can see what happened. EDIT: Ah, I see what you meant now. Paypal is almost more dangerous than the Mafia with their hidden fees and strongarm negotiations! Having said that, the free shipping to the UK and worldwide will no longer be feasible anymore. The USPS charges me 6.32 for one book to the UK, and the mailer costs .22, and I’m only charging 6.99 including shipping. It doesn’t take a genius to see that we’re hemorrhaging money at that rate. So to clarify, cover price for the UK/Europe has always been 7.28. We have been charging 6.99 and giving free shipping to the UK as part of our first issue sale (which was actually supposed to end on 10/28, but we’ve kept it going as a gesture of goodwill to our readers). When the sale is over, the book will be 7.28 plus 6.xx shipping for one to three books to the UK. If you live in the UK and don’t want to pay full price, order now while we can still send it out at the reduced rate… As to why some people have received the first issue already: my local PO limits me on how many books I can ship a day, since I don’t have a bulk permit. I started shipping on Saturday, so some people have already received their books. I’m shipping chronologically by the date you ordered; so the earlier you ordered (Tom placed his order on the first day we started taking them) the earlier you will get your book. All books should be finished shipping by tomorrow; orders placed this week will ship by Friday. Thanks for the feedback, and stay tuned for the second issue! Rob
I’m looking forward to my copy. I’m sure it will be a keeper. In this digital age, someone who wants to concentrate on ‘content’ can really shine, with just a digital version offering. That’s my two cents about going through the expense of publishing and shipping, and that is coming from someone who really likes having some good reading material that I can hold in my hands.
Streetcarp I’m glad we got that settled. lol I was shocked to know what our mailroom has been paying to have these shipped. Holy Crap! I get snuff shipped for very little more.
I ordered mine too, but haven’t received it yet. It usually takes 5-7 days for me to get anything from the US. I can’t wait to receive it. Stefan
I really enjoyed the articles of a historical nature, such as a review on a medicine to cure tobacco addiction, and a snus that is no longer in production, and some exerpts from a Prohibition booklet. Still haven’t read it all yet.
stop teasing me please
Just a quick note. The entire run of the first issue is now sold out. And the final copies will be mailed tomorrow. We will definitely need a bigger run of the second issue.
Anyone finished with their copy who would be willing to pass it on? Looks like I dilly dally’d a little too long.
I checked out the site, and was wondering why snuffhouse.org is not on the friends list. I ordered an issue anyway.
@sprangalang: LOL, We tried to befriend snuffhouse, but snuffhouse said we weren’t cool enough to hang with him j/k, the site is still under construction so we haven’t got everyone listed yet. If you have a site or a blog and want to trade banner/friend space, just contact me or Mick.
