Just put in for my copy!!! http://stephemeris.com/
Thanks man, I was just thinking about that today.
Is this worth the money? I’m not being a smartass, I just haven’t had the privelage of reading an issue and wondered how informative it is.
Ordered. @fisch it is definately worth the money, it is a really informative, entertaining read. Stefan
@Walrus thank ya sir! might just order me copy here in a sec!
not gonna lie, I bought the first issue and it was like $5 including shipping, I don’t know about 10 bones.
After a little research, and the fact that the first issue was around $5 and sold out very quickly, it seems to me the publisher of this magazine is taking advantage of the popularity and jacking up the price! A dollar or two I could understand, but double?! I think I’ll have to pass…just my .02!
I ain’t do it this time! 10$ is more than playboy!
Looks interesting, but I will be putting my 10$ towards some snuff.
Hey guys. Thanks for the good words about the magazine! About the price increase. Our first issue was sold at a loss. (Each issue cost about 6.00 to print and ship, and we sold it at 20% off and did free shipping. For every book we sold, we lost about two dollars). We purposely made no money on it. We did this because we wanted people to get excited about the magazine. We wanted as many people to buy it as possible, which is exactly what happened. Just like when a company gives you free samples, hoping you’ll come and buy more. We figured that we would have plenty of advertisers lined up for the second issue, and we would be able to charge the same cover price, but that didn’t happen. At 8.83, we are making a slight profit. When I say slight, I mean a few pennies per copy. I’m not going to try to justify the cost of the magazine, but I regularly pay 8.00-15.00 an issue for magazines with half the page count and a crapload of ads, not to mention cheaper paper stock and no color. We have almost no ads, full color, and our page count is a hefty 120+ pages, so I feel like we’re delivering the goods. I’ll stand the Ephemeris up to any similar niche mag on the stands right now and I think we’ll come out on top in every case. FischTix, feel free to ask any of the 50+ or so people that are involved in the magazine and they will gladly tell you that we’re not “jacking up the price” due to the popularity, but we can’t just give it away for free either. Our price has also not doubled. Our first issue was 5.52 and this issue is 8.83, so our price has increase 3.31. This is still not a profitable venture, this is a labor of love. Mick and I have sunk our life savings into getting this thing published, and at this rate, it will be 60 years before we recoup our loss. None of our writers or artists are paid in cash, and we actually have to pay to run some of the previously printed articles that we feature from time to time. I quit my day job to do this full time. We’ve put hundreds of man hours into this thing and if we’re lucky to sell our entire print run, I might have made enough money to take the wife out to Applebees. Maybe. I’m not trying to come down on anyone, but please read the magazine first before you tell me whether or not it’s worth 8.83. For the people that have supported us from day one, I want to give my wholehearted thanks and appreciation. YOU are the reason we do this book. (And yes, I feel it’s closer to a book than it is a magazine). If you are a regular reader of our book and would like to see the cover price come down, then help us harass some of these stores and vendors into buying some cheap ad space. They’ve kind of turned a blind eye to us, which doesn’t bother me in the least because I’m going to keep putting the book out no matter what. But it would be nice if we could keep the costs down to benefit the readers.
I just put the order in for mine. I am going to grab the 1st issue when you reprint in April. Wish I would of got it when it first came out! Thanks.
@snuffpub You called me out by name…how dare you?! You publicly humiliated me, made me cry, and accused me of misinformation! You charge $8.83 plus shipping for a magazine that I could have had Issue 1 of for $5.52 because you don’t have enough ads in your rag to bring the price down a few bucks. What did you accomplish by all this? Apparently showing that you have guts, and are capable of publishing a piece of literature that contains interesting stories, articles, and photos instead of A & F ads and stank perfume samples. You have, most of all, showed ya got balls! One is just a number, but it’s better than zero, and one is also the number of customer(s) you added with your response! Kudos “nigga” my issue is paid for and eagerly being awaited! Don’t disappoint me!
Woah, Fischtix. Yeah, loved the first, pre-ordered the second. I would subscribe if it was ever worked-out logistically. Keep us updated.
@ Fischtix! Damn, if I had known you would have rolled over so easily, I wouldn’t have made my post so long! LOL Thanks for your order, and you’ll also have a complimentary copy of Volume One headed your way in April. Drop me a line at thesnufftakersephemeris@yahoo.com so I know where to send it. @Matsnuffs, and everyone else that got the first edition- you’ll be pleased to know that the printing errors we had in Volume One have been taken care of. If you liked the first issue, I guarantee you’ll love the second. We’ve got a new printer that actually seems to know what they’re doing for a change. Thanks to EVERYONE that has ordered a copy, you guys rock!
@snuffpub Ya just sounded so pitiful…it got me right there in that special part of my heart i normally save for lil puppy dogs…lol! Nah, I was misinformed and went off half-cocked. I did some more extensive research, read your blogs, and realized that I realy like your style. You really don’t need to send me a complimentary copy of issue one, I’m more than happy to support a grassroots group such as yourselves. But, however, if you INSIST, I’ll shoot you an email. Thanks VERY much!
If it helps sell a few more copies, one of SnuffHouse’s old and beloved members is featured in the new issue. Said member is modest and shy so I won’t name him, he can speak for himself if he wants. No it’s not Pieter or Xander, not that we wouldn’t love to see some contributions from either. Thanks for the support all. From day one we knew this was not something that would pad our bank accounts or buy us new cars. Right now we’re hoping to turn enough of a profit , eventually, to support our tobacco habits.
PP is gonna have a full spread centerfold right?! They’ll sell out in no time for sure!!
On a serious note, I think it’s sad that I live in the heart of tobacco country, and if i was to walk into our town’s tobacco shop and ask if they had a The Snuff Taker’s Ephemeris they’d probably answer, “We did, but we just had the Orkin man out last month to take care of em”. For an area of the country that is steeped in tobacco history, the local shops seem to cater more to customers wanting blunt wraps and “tobacco” pipes. These stores should be a prime spot to sell this publication, and want to support small business owners putting out a magazine that could potentially seriously boost sales of more legitimate tobacco products.
Very true. I’m based in the middle of North Carolina and I can’t get any of the tobacco stores around me (except one) to carry the magazine. We’re having more luck at independent/college bookstores than tobacco shops. We seem to sell really well in “party” towns with a big college population, probably due to the smoking bans in most nightclubs. Younger folks are coming into the “hipper” cigar shops (that don’t exclusively cater to dirty old men) looking for snuff or snus to take with them to the bar, and some of these new-school establishments are pointing out our magazine, which we appreciate to no end.
alright I caved haha. I’m looking forward to Issue 2!
