New snuff stuff to read

I’m not sure if this is allowed, but here goes. ( Mods, If I’m breaking any big rules feel free to delete.) A friend of mine and I have started a print magazine called “The Snuff Takers Ephemeris”. http://www.stephemeris.com/ We are mainly focused on smokeless tobacco history, and culture, with emphasis on snuff and snus.

Interesting. About how many pages in volume I? Hopefully not too many ads, haha. I am thinking about buying.

Right now it looks like roughly 80 pages or so, per issue. We’re targeting 80-100 pages per. Almost no ads in the first issue. There will be ads in future issues, but as few as possible. We have to pay the printers somehow.

Ads are fine, but without exaggeration, I have seen magazines for sale in which 50-75% of the pages are advertisements. I remember one photography magazine, in particular, which was geared toward photography techniques (not a showcase of photographers’ works), and had about 75% of the pages as ads, and each issue cost almost $10. That is just excessive. I actually enjoy magazine ads, but not that much. I like literary content too, haha.

Very interesting, have you gotten in touch with any of the Snuff advertisers on this site like Mr.Snuff, Toque, etc etc? If they already haven’t they might be interested in placing some ads in your magazine. I’ll be buying the first issue either way, I like to support the Snuff community in any way I can. EDIT: Could you give a little sneak peak of some of the articles in the inaugural issue. Nothing to spoil the surprise but maybe just a tidbit to tide me over till it ships?

@ Alexander, we will never have more than 25% ads. Less if we can. That was one of my rules going in. I hate mags that can’t get through an entire article without breaking it up to place an ad. @ John, we have talked to Roderick. The rest we will talk to after the first issue goes out. Let them see what we offer before asking for cash. I’ll see what teasers I can get away with.

Bigmick, it seems as though we have the same views on advertisement quantity in periodicals. I shall buy an issue. Just curious, I am buying anyway, but is the $4.99 price after the 10% off, or is the 10% deducted during PayPal checkout?

Ordered one. Good starting place for the dream that was the ISTA? Just a thought.

I also singed up for it with Paypal

Nice! Online magazines are fine but they can’t compare to the tangible pressed print. Good luck to us!

Good for you! I am so excited to see “snuff culture” take off the way it has in the past few years, and your magazine sounds like just the thing we needed.

Interesting, I’ll probably order a copy towards the end of the month.

Great stuff, good luck with it, Ill be ordering.

@ Alexander, $4.99 is the discount price, for pre-orders. $5.51 is full price, free shipping. @ John, here is your teaser… Ljunglof, the Snus King (Chapter One) International directory of haunted snuff mills Curt Jurgens retrospective Identifying snuff boxes, part one: English wood-carved Strange… but true! Interview with Bill Johnson Notes from the underground Ephemera A look back at Fribourg & Treyer Brands of yesteryear plus several more monthly columns, snuff literature reprints, and more guest commentary than you can shake a stick at.

I wish you the best of luck with your magazine. Unfortunately I cannot subscribe at the moment. Gotta work on getting those pesky bills caught up.

What a bloody good idea! I’ll be signing up for a copy hopefully you’ll ship to the UK? Stefan

Ordered and paid for! Stefan

Sounds great, I’ll probably order it at the end of the week.

Just ordered my copy. And yes I am new so Hello to everybody  I’m looking forward to getting involved with the snuffhouse community!

Good work, Mick! I’ll be sure to pick up a copy and also to show a pipe smoking aquaintance that runs an eclectic bookshop.
