can you tell me what date you had the conversation and who you spoke to? Also if you know what logon name you had or random name assigned that would be very helpful. I will take a look and see if I can track down the conversation and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Last but not least, 200g at $3 is clearly an error. Thank you for not buying 6Kg of it. If you would be kind enough to let me know what the product is I would be grateful so I can stem the loss.
It kind of saddens me that no one else has mentioned it to me. In the past members pointed out clear errors so I could fix them. We are not some big conglomeration that can take hits like that.
@MrSnuff Don’t be saddened by us failing to flag these. In fairness to those (including me) who bought one (ONE so others could enjoy the same deal) of these low priced snuffs, there is some highly erratic pricing throughout the entire site. It’s not just within one manufacturer either. In Gawith Hoggarth you have 25g tubs ranging from
Crap! I forgot about the pound sign issue. That was a damn long post too!!! ARSE - that’s infuriating! Long story short - with respect the prices are all over the place. Dholakia from 1.10 to 6.87. GH 25g from 1.97 to 4.44. I can buy these for as low as 1.49 each. Wow, 6 Photo, Temptation, Bernards all varying wildly. Some significantly cheaper than other sellers, some significantly higher. Nobody is out to rip you off, or get ripped off ourselves. We don’t know what’s an error or what isn’t because there’s no consistency. This isn’t a recent development either. None of the cut price snuffs are listed in specials. Everything in specials is full price. The only commercial judgements we can make is what to buy and who from. Maybe it’s time for a full site audit to ensure the prices are fair to you but still competitive, and that price reductions for slow moving stock or luring loss leaders are indeed correct. Sorry to be blunt Dave, but you can’t be annoyed with us for not knowing whether or not your prices are intentional when they are all over the bloody map throughout the whole site.
3 pounds for 200g of snuff to me is common sense that it’s an error… because that is around average price from almost all suppliers for a 25g,
Everybody claiming there is no mistake making me feel bad, for then the owner to come and admits it is an error amuses me, I was not 100% sure the pricing was correct… and with the confusion with the helpline I didn’t end up ordering anything.
Please don’t hate me for ruining you’re super deals guys… But is it not common sense that Dave wouldn’t make any profit but rather be loosing profit selling 200G for a few pounds?.. snuff is cheap as it is, No need to take advantage of people.
Gotta agree with 50ft_trad on this one. I would have just assumed it was liquidation, or some special that wasn’t advertised. Especially since it was a seemingly random price, rather than something like “1.99” rather than “19.99” which is easily a typo. Hard to typo 11.72 (current price) as 3.36.
Just be careful with your implications given that, for example, Viking blond tins are currently 10 bucks on mr. snuff, and you mark up all the bulk tubs pretty heavily; the McChrystal’s 200g tubs for 60 dollars, when they cost 41 from McC who won’t ship to US, and the tubs of Wilson’s costing 75 bucks vs. 38 from the mill website.
Maybe I don’t understand certain factors involved here.
While we’re pointing out inconsistencies, I’ve often seen variations in the prices between MS and snuffstore. I figured it was a matter of slightly different markets and that it was deliberate. I wouldn’t have bought the medicated Dholakia, even at that price. I can’t abide medicated snuff. I would have figured that everyone else felt the same way and Dave was trying to clear the warehouse of an item for which he’d miscalculated the demand.
I did ask the online support if it was a discontinued product for reasoning for such low price but she did not answer me & kept telling me how many grams I want…
Because of the low stated price I was going to make a huge order… as I did read somewhere that menthol snuff in a few years could be stopped, so I am stocking up… But I wanted to be 100 per cent clear that it was the right price and not an error before ordering.
I guess the woman I spoke to 's incompetence to answer basic questions done dave a favor.
I did notice the snuffs were all erratic in pricing however I still think it should be common sense that a snuff would not be meant to be sold for 3 quid for 200grams.
Thanks Gents. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who assumed the price was valid and strategic. I recently bought 20 tins of SG snuff from a retailer who was clearing them out for one pound each. Considering how cheaply snuffs sell in India, I had no worries that I may be doing anyone a disservice by buying these at a bargain price too, and don’t like the implication that I was knowingly taking advantage of someone’s error. That’s effectively an accusation of dishonesty, which I resent. Think about it, why else would I tag Dave to come look at this thread to assist Jim, and then encourage Jim to buy one as the price would be right. It’s all there in black and white right here on this thread. Would I seriously do that if I thought this was an “obvious error”?
It was an honest mistake on both side, I remember seeing 200g Virginie for sale on MrSnuff when it was still around for $6. I never picked any up though I had assumed they were clearing old stock. It may not have been brought to MrSnuff or snuffstore a quickly as you would like though In our defense Dave was linked in the second post by 50ft_trad when the discussion started. If 50ft_trad has not linked MrSnuff and if bigjim had not created this thread who knows how much stock snuffstore could have lost before figguring out the issue or someone else bringing the problem to light. I understand that you do not make a huge profit margin Dave and apologize if this post looks like i’m defending all of our actions, I believed it was an honest mistake. I dont know what I would do without you MrSnuff love ya!
The issue was I had a guy on to do stock control and pricing to free up my time to pursue another start-up. Hence my eye has been off the ball for some time. My bad.
I had no idea that there was so much vagary in pricing. That guy is now fired as of yesterday. Over time I will update all the prices accordingly and make them a bit more consistent.
There are many factors that go into pricing of course. More than I should bore you with. However it is worth mentioning that the bulk tubs are more expensive than the manufacturers charge because we do not stock them and a bulk order is hence extremely labor intensive with lots of room for error. It involves extra shipping for a tiny order, multiple emails going back and forth between us, the manufacturer and the warehouse, tracking and follow-up, an extra inbound charge from the warehouse, an extra ‘management’ charge from the warehouse and so on. This is why I stopped selling bulk for a while. The only reason I brought it back was because there were some requests from members here to do so. I had to recode the website so that orders would not be rejected due to not being in stock. That alone cost $750. For the number of bulk we sell I doubt I have even made that back yet.
As I said to @bigjim I do appreciate feedback, whether positive or negative. The positive makes it fun; the negative alerts me to issues and gives me a chance to correct them.
