Yes, NTSU is also similarly coarse. With Taxi or NTSU I say “Pinch, hoist, shove, adjust as necessary”, it’s not hard to learn after a few times…
Been away for a while busy with life events etc. during my absence I have not seen rooster around for a while has it gone bye bye?
Wow nobody want to answer? or I don’t want to know the answer?
i dont know first hand as i never used it, but a quick google tells me you might want to pick another snuff…
Thanks Fire I googled it quite a bit, but could not find a definitive answer.
This is a great column. You’ve answered questions I didn’t even know I had.
What do you guys think to scenting with flavoured vodkas, would it work?
Idk, you might just have to try it, here one can buy a small (I call them “airplane size” bottles) for a buck a pop. I’m tempted to try some extra-strong Madagascar Vanilla extract…
Not sure if I should create a new Thread, but I’ll try here first. What frequency do you usually partake of snuff in a given period of time? If I’m in the mood I’ve been sniffing every 20 min/when I feel like I could use some more. Is there a rule of thumb to follow? Any tips on cleanup? Seems like after a couple goes and my nose stops “salivating” from the aroma, it gets pretty dry and “crusty”.
ha @bryanikon! crusty noses comes with the territory … but you will find threads in here regarding cleaning of the nose … some use neti pots, others “gargle” in the nose nightly, while others just clear it all out in the shower. as far as how often … purely personal preference. so if you feel compelled to go after it every 20 minutes or every 10, go for it. it’s not going to hurt you in the slightest. my two cents, ymmv. cheers.
@snuffbrant Thanks for the reply. That sounds fair, should you be blowing your nose to clear stuff out between sniffs? Will loading up then prevent you from getting the same affects, nicotine or aroma, after some time?
If I’m feeling real strong I can hold off for 20 min but usually not. Just kidding, I do take snuff that often at times and then could go for hours without. For cleanup bottle of nasal Saline solution is helpful, I sometimes use a Q-tip over the sink. I’ll throw some in a drawer at work even. you’ll also find that you can vary the type of snuff your using to help flush things out.
i blow my nose between snuffs … and i am guessing that the more buildup you have between the snuff and the nasal membrane, the less the nicotine absorption … from an aroma aspect, you may find it interesting the more snuffs you sniff without blowing … when it comes out it has a scent too.
For me it depends on the snuff. When I take very moist and coarse snuff I usually have to clean my nose very soon. With dry and fine like toast hardly at all. Generally speaking, the nose will probably tell you when it wants to be blown.
Me and my friend’s big order just arrived (unfortunately to western NY and not where I am but he’s shipping my portion down). We each ordered some Gekachelter Virginie. He was wondering how you keep it fresh after the bag is open. Is it a schmalzer and hence not liable to drying out? Though my Klostermischung in a tapbox got bone-dry after a while so I dunno.

It’s no Schmalzler and if it’s anything like ‘Offenbacher Cardinal’, what I suspect, it will already be quiet dry. To keep it fresh you should put it in a glas with a screw lid or any other airtight container and store it cool. The Cardinal’s bag btw. wasn’t even closed, just folded and stuffed in a cardboard box.
Would a mason jar be okay, even if it was big?
the less air inside the better, i would think.
I like as narrow a jar as possible, to minimize the air to snuff contact area. I also try to fit it to the volume of snuff I’m storing to minimize the air space. take a look in the grocery store and treat yourself to some green olives, or dessert cherries my personal favorite is the Horse radish jar, very narrow with a rubberized metal lid. Some of these products aren’t much more than a specialized storage jar.

@3_D…3_D aka The Snuff Storage Aficionado…3_D knows… He sent me a bunch of these cool little containers ( never seen them b4 ) filled with snuffs, maybe 3/4 of a inch tall by that wide. ( I still don’t know what they are really used for something in specimens I think. ) 2 of em store so well, can’t even open them…those dam tight lids…3_D…lol
