Shipping and Handling Prices on MrSnuff - Big reduction

I was just told to pay $59 shipping on a $75 order from Mr. Snuff. That’s a shipping charge of around 80% of purchase price. Ouch! That hurts! Does anyone know how to get the “big reduction”? Is there a coupon code I don’t know about? Sheesh!

Just received my first order from Mr. Snuff. Not sure what I paid for S&H but I will say this- I got six tins (average of 25g each) in about ten days. That’s from the UK to the US and the US to my overseas location. All told that’s fantastic service. As for potential specials, that may well motivate me to stock up on some of the new brands I am now able to enjoy thanks to Mr. Snuff.

@fredhanna‌, one thing I’ve noticed is that it depends which products you buy. If you buy the cheaper snuffs in bulk, shipping costs are high because the weight/price ratio is high. If you buy some small tins of Abraxas, shipping costs are relatively low, cos they don’t weigh much for the price (sigh).

tracking triples the cost on relatively small orders; I just take my chances and ship without tracking.

Dr. Hanna-I think my shipping can beat your shipping: Sub-Total: $13.93 Low Order Fee: $1.50 Royal Mail Airmail(Tracking NOT Included) (): $14.98 Total: $30.41 That’s 97% Shipping/Handling for one 25 gram SG Blue Crest and one 15 gram SWS Havana Toast. According to “howdydave” homemade snuff is inferior. According to my calculations it’s worth the effort. I will miss Andrea very much. I have to draw the line here and stick to my own concoctions. I’m also writing my elected idiots, er, representatives…I think I was right the first time…and ask them to review the PACT Act. It wasn’t long ago that a call to Mike@Mars Cigars and $25 would result in a pound of snuff in your mailbox in 3 days. Time to bring those days back.

@JakartaBoy. There are no bulk snuffs in my order and the shipping charge is still very high. @Mouse for my order, shipping without tracking was only about $6 or $7 cheaper than with tracking–$59 vs. $52 and change. @chefdaniel yes, your shipping beat mine and Andrea is great. I think Dave is great too although I have seen no reduction in shipping charges. After trying to understand all this for a while now, I have come to the tentative conclusion that Dave must be paying exorbitantly high warehouse fees to the company with which he has contracted. I believe that the bulk of the shipping charges are really handling charges, because of the warehouse fees he pays. I really don’t think he would charge us these high shipping prices if not for the warehouse expense–at least I hope not. I wonder how much lower the shipping charges would be if he owned his own warehouse. But I am sure he has thought about that. I think part of the problem is also the fact that snuff does not have a high markup and there is not a large profit margin in the snuff business. It appears to me that Dave @MrSnuff is trying to survive in a business wherein the products he sells are quite inexpensive to begin with, and coupled with a low profit margin and high warehouse fees, I would guess that he does not have much room to work with in order to stay in business. But I really don’t know. I am just speculating…

@mrsnuff, I just had a look at buying 100 grams of the Sir Walter Scott’s Havana Toast Snuff. I get the following shipping costs: Royal Mail Airmail(Tracking NOT Included) $7.98 Royal Mail International Signed For Royal Mail International Signed For $25.48 How come the “signed for” option is so much more expensive than the “tracking not included” option? Eight bucks seems like quite a reasonable cost for a $47.90 / 100 gram order, and even 25 bucks is not the 100% of purchase price shipping cost mentioned above, but it still seems weird to be paying an extra 17 for tracking. I just won’t use tracking, and I bet not many other people will, either. By the way, I tried to enter the SNUFFHOUSE25 discount code, but it doesn’t seem to be valid any more. Has that discount been abolished now?

Royal Mail Airmail(Tracking NOT Included) $7.98 Royal Mail International Signed For Royal Mail International Signed For $25.48 Eight bucks seems like quite a reasonable cost for a $47.90 / 100 gram order, and even 25 bucks is not the 100% of purchase price shipping cost mentioned above, but it still seems weird to be paying an extra 17 for tracking. Tracking is a fixed additional cost to us of around $12,

$17 on top of $8 does seem like quite an ‘around’ from $12. its the extra costs that seem to add up on this site that make me build a great basket, then use somewhere else even if they have less variety because i cant justify the extra cost of MrSnuff.

I agree with @Roderick on the tracking. Nothing drives me nuts like “knowing” something has reached a certain point and I am left waiting for it to make the next step in the machine.

I like staring at it while it sits in customs! If I could I would go down to the air port and, stare at it there too!

I don’t like the shipping costs either, but it’s still way cheaper combined than buying cigarettes! I just checked the shipping cost of a usual order for me and it does seem cheaper by a few dollars ($8). Even after adding a 500g Viking Brown it’s still pretty decent at $17. I’ll continue buying from mrsnuff.com even if the shipping was more than what it used to be, for the reason above plus I want to support them so they stick around forever lol, and they’re good people. Actually screw the US, I’m moving to the UK! Not really but screw the idiots in government. They never cease to piss me off.

I have had a look at the shipping and the various jumps in cost across various weight and price ranges, including tracking at the lower levels. Quite frankly it is like the dark arts and it makes my head spin. I suspect that there are the occasional errors in weights (ie a decimal point in the wrong place or the product was cloned from a different size but the weights not changed - that works both ways). The tracking kicks in at 0.6Kg. so If your order is 50g or 500g the tracking is the same price. I tried to compare some sales. Here are a few examples with product cost/S&H: $/$ 21/8 8/8 17/8 128/30 (with tracking) 19/8 45/10 37/25 (with tracking) From the above numbers (which I did not pick and choose; I just went down a list of recent orders) what is really interesting is the tracked orders. $128 and tracked shipping at $30 vs $37 order and tracked shipping at $25. Compare that to the untracked order at $40 and only $10 shipping. @fredhanna‌ you are right that we would save money if we had our own warehouse. We get charged a per parcel fee; a per pick fee; a stock fee; postage plus 10%; a stock receive fee; a restock fee; a per sku fee; a management fee…and so it goes on. One other point that I have made before but deserves to be repeated is that weights are total weights of: product, containers, packing materials, labels, tape etc. It is also averaged over all sales to try to get a balance. Last month (April) we subsidized shipping and handling out of product sales to the tune of $2614.84. So while there may be the odd anomaly (and please point them out so I can check) we are most definitely not over-charging overall. I hope that clarifies things. I am open to suggestion also. For example should I increase the minimum shipment cost but then hold that price to a higher weight? If anybody has any fairer ways to do this I am all ears. Thanks Dave

Well, I just placed a $44 / 200 gram order and shipping was a reasonable ten bucks or so. 150 g of HDT at an excellent price and 50 g of the new SWS Havana Toast. I expect a high rate of return on my investment.

@chefdaniel‌ please try again on the shipping for the order above. I found out why it was so high. The decimal point was in the wrong place. That one little jar was weighed in at 0.5Kg. So actually the shipping cost is very reasonable! Sorry about that. Please guys, if you find any anomalies like this I would appreciate an email or pm to give me a chance to sort it out. Thanks, Dave

Thanks Dave. Will do. Didn’t intend to pile on, just frustrated, but not half as frustrated as ya’ll. You do a great job and Andrea is, and always will be, the greatest.
