OT-Marlboro PseudoSnus

Well that brings up the other question of where to buy twist. Oh and I tried dipping RR Mills Plain last night. EH, didn’t do much for me in any department, nic hit or flavor. Tempted to try Honeybee, no where to find that…? Ken

@devilock: Check out Harris Teeter, Food Lion or Lowe’s. Last time I was in NC, all 3 carried sweets and scotches, not to mention a wide selection of loose leaf, twist, plugs and dip.

The Smoker Friendly chain of stores carry Navy, Dental and RR Mills, last I checked. As for grocery stores and convenience stores mostly all I can find are chew, dip, and on a rare occasion plugs. There is one tobacconist who carries oliver twist as well as a few non scotch snuffs. I am seriously debating growing my own tobacco, I got a half acre of land and NC is known for good tobacco growing. My biggest concern really is the drying and curing process. Don’t have much room for that. Ken

Drying and curing can be done in a garage. I have about 15 plants going on the side of my house, I live in a subdivision so I have the old “zero lot line”. Try and check out a Food Lion in a economically depressed side of town, that is were I found the best selection at.

My local Kroger grocery had Days Work, and Cannon Ball plugs, Mammoth Cave twist, maybe another twist too, but I’m not sure, a variety of loose leaf chews(Red Man, Levi, etc), dip cans(Copenhagen, Grizzly, etc), and 3-4 different scotch snuffs(W.E. reg and Sweet, Bruton, Red Seal, Honest).

Just procured a package of Oliver Twist original and having my first bit now. Not sure what to make of it yet. Ken

MAn I hate you guys! Seriously no american snuff anywhere near here. there was one place that used to sell tube rose they stoped before I got a chance to try it. There is one drug store here that sells day o work plug. Though it’s easy to find fresh loose leaf chew as that stuff is big here but plugs and such not much luck. Twists not even sure if many people here know such things are still made.

There is always growing your own, I am highly debating doing it. It wouldn’t take much to well stock yourself in snuff from your own grown tobacco plants. Although if you are looking to make Scotches that might be tricky fire curing the leaves. You know, depending where you are I could always send you a tin. Ken

If I was gonna grow my own, I’d wanna make loose leaf chew. Like Levi, or Red Man. It’d be cool to have a big ole zip lock bag of my own chew.

That’s pretty easy to do. Grow, cure and sauce.

Tom, you make twist from leaves and “loose leaf” from the scrap. It’s kind of glued steak.

Has anyone else noticed that skoal is trying snus again, to be released January… Saw an add in a local store, but I can’t find squat on it except on this crappy anti-tobacco site… http://goodhealth.freeservers.com/Skoal\_snus\_January\_2011\_1of2\_b.jpg I read their first attempt had less than 3mg of nicotine per portion…weak! I wonder how horrid v.2.0 will be…

Fail

The Marlboro crap is nasty.  Tried it last week, ick!

I like Camel Snus a little bit. The new flavors, Robust and Winterchill, have portions comparable in size and nic content to swedish snus. They’re a little dry but not as dry as Frost or Mellow were. Robust isn’t too sweet either, it’s a pretty good flavor. And if you don’t hate wintergreen, winterchill is a fine flavor. I get them when I don’t have any General. I haven’t tried Marlboro Snus but it doesn’t look like they’re even trying (I think that Camel Snus is at least somewhat trying to compete with swedish snus). I also like my growing collection of Camel tins. I can’t throw them away.

I’m gonna have to go back and retry camel now

I tries the robust and must say it’s a definite improvement on the first release. Not quite sweedish quality but more of a nic kick. I opened a pouch and the tobacco looked bakeable.
