Tried a different one today, the “Rich” Variety, and was not terribly impressed. It seems to me that these companies (RJ Renolds, PM, Nordic America) just do not understand snus at all. Then I found this article…PM Snus…and suddenly it makes sense. I understand that it was never the intention of PM or RJR to replace their cigs, that’s obvious…but it seems they set out to make uniformed people intentionally think that snus=crap, at least that’s what the article gets at. Chewers and dippers are not going to switch to this, smokers sure as hell are not, and it is only snus by name, so it makes sense.
Grizzly or Copenhagen snuff pouches upper lipped are better “snus” than the American “snus” junk, or I think so.
@ matsnuffs I’ve read through more than a few articles regarding the difference between Swedish snus and American SNUS. This one is the most concise and understandable one I’ve seen yet! A big thanks for sharing it for sure. Also, I did try the Marlboro Rich about a month ago. Your “not terribly impressed” has got to be the understatement of the year. I thought the Rich was flat out repugnant and it offers up proof of the Machiavellian aspects cited in the article. Make it taste so bad that uninformed smokers won’t pursue snus!
I tells you it’s for when people can’t smoke and to keep them from trying real snus.
Thanks, matsnuffs. This is what I have long suspected. Here are a couple good quotes from the article:the test-marketing of PM snus is intended to fail. Mass marketing of this product could potentially “vaccinate” U.S. smokers against switching to snus by teaching them that snus is an unsatisfying product with no nicotine “hit”. A product delivering as little nicotine as PM snus will leave the smoker craving for a cigarette
The Marlboro snus is so nasty it makes the Camel snus seem good.
Tourney and Grand Prix snus was better than Camel and Marlboro.
I cant seem to find any place online to order Marlboro snus would be curious to try it out even though I see the reviews arent too great.
Marlboro snus is revolting I mean SO REVOLTING I wasted money on it like $8.00 (I really don’t know how much I spent) on all the flavors they smell better than they taste but , thats just my stand on Marlboro snus. GOOD JOB MARLBORO FOR MAKING AN EMBARRASSMENT OF YOURSELF JUST STICK TO CIGARETTES AND YOU’LL DO FINE!!!
This has long been the general consensus on SnusOn. PM and RJR are simply seeking to corner their market share, and they don’t want to be losing profits to a superior product from overseas.

Thus begins the PACT.
I also believe they don’t want to hurt their cig sales.
The camel and malboro snus aren’t meant as a go to product obviously. They are clearly meant as something for a nimrod going to a bar or other smoke ban place. That’s what I think is obvious. They are afraid that other people will try real snus for that reason and say fuck smoking these cancer sticks.
Agreed, bob. They both bear little resemblance to snus, even Nordic America “snus” sucks. Apparently these people thought “Gee, a moist, tobacco tasting item with lots of nicotine…lets make bone dry, nicotine-less crap with buckets of sweet flavor and call it the same thing!”
That Nordic American/Klondike snus does blow. It’s just fine cut dip with a lot of sugar in a can that says snus.
Don’t forget, its also bone dry. Made the mistake of trying Klondike Fine Cut “loose” once. It sounded like a puck inside of the can when I shook it, and crumbled apart when you tried to pinch some. Wouldn’t bake at all…and tasted horrid. Its not even a good dip!
I actually tried the Marlboro Snus tonight. I was at the store and saw a sign for it being on sale for a $1.99. Well it turns out there are only 6 in the packet for $1.99. Anyway I bought the spearamint one. After having to pull my pocket knife to open the f’er I had a packet. Now let me preface, I have NEVER tried used or even tasted or experienced in any way ANY oral tobacco, be it twist, plug, chew, dip, or any snus in any form. I am trying to become a former smoker through snuff, so it has opened my mind to other forms of smokeless tobacco. Anyway it was not terrible from my stand point. I could feel a tingle, detect a nicotine hint, it was concealable and spitless. Of course at the price of basically $0.33 a packet I am not exactly impressed. I think the next thing I will try will be oliver twist. I also have this fascination with true twist tobacco. Also I have debated trying dipping snuff, as in the scotch snuff I have (RR mills plain), maybe even the bacca stick method. Anyway just though I would chime in having actually used the product. Ken
@devilock76: Do try Oliver Twist , they’re tasty little tobacco morsels , however as a smoker I’ve only been able to keep the cravings away with Swedish snus. I don’t know weather Oliver Twist is fermented or steam treated , so the safety aspect on long term use is still unclear to me , but they’re a nice treat to enjoy and they will top out your nic levels when you don’t feel like munching a full portion of snus.
I plan on ordering some Swedish Snus in the near future. Any recommendations on where to order from and for that matter what brands/flavors to start with. If it is relevant I am in the Raleigh, NC, USA area. Ken
Get a real twist. I bought a Mammoth Cave twist the other day.
Well that brings up the other question of where to buy twist. Oh and I tried dipping RR Mills Plain last night. EH, didn’t do much for me in any department, nic hit or flavor. Tempted to try Honeybee, no where to find that…? Ken
@devilock: Check out Harris Teeter, Food Lion or Lowe’s. Last time I was in NC, all 3 carried sweets and scotches, not to mention a wide selection of loose leaf, twist, plugs and dip.
The Smoker Friendly chain of stores carry Navy, Dental and RR Mills, last I checked. As for grocery stores and convenience stores mostly all I can find are chew, dip, and on a rare occasion plugs. There is one tobacconist who carries oliver twist as well as a few non scotch snuffs. I am seriously debating growing my own tobacco, I got a half acre of land and NC is known for good tobacco growing. My biggest concern really is the drying and curing process. Don’t have much room for that. Ken
Drying and curing can be done in a garage. I have about 15 plants going on the side of my house, I live in a subdivision so I have the old “zero lot line”. Try and check out a Food Lion in a economically depressed side of town, that is were I found the best selection at.
My local Kroger grocery had Days Work, and Cannon Ball plugs, Mammoth Cave twist, maybe another twist too, but I’m not sure, a variety of loose leaf chews(Red Man, Levi, etc), dip cans(Copenhagen, Grizzly, etc), and 3-4 different scotch snuffs(W.E. reg and Sweet, Bruton, Red Seal, Honest).
Just procured a package of Oliver Twist original and having my first bit now. Not sure what to make of it yet. Ken
MAn I hate you guys! Seriously no american snuff anywhere near here. there was one place that used to sell tube rose they stoped before I got a chance to try it. There is one drug store here that sells day o work plug. Though it’s easy to find fresh loose leaf chew as that stuff is big here but plugs and such not much luck. Twists not even sure if many people here know such things are still made.
There is always growing your own, I am highly debating doing it. It wouldn’t take much to well stock yourself in snuff from your own grown tobacco plants. Although if you are looking to make Scotches that might be tricky fire curing the leaves. You know, depending where you are I could always send you a tin. Ken
If I was gonna grow my own, I’d wanna make loose leaf chew. Like Levi, or Red Man. It’d be cool to have a big ole zip lock bag of my own chew.
That’s pretty easy to do. Grow, cure and sauce.
Tom, you make twist from leaves and “loose leaf” from the scrap. It’s kind of glued steak.
Has anyone else noticed that skoal is trying snus again, to be released January… Saw an add in a local store, but I can’t find squat on it except on this crappy anti-tobacco site… http://goodhealth.freeservers.com/Skoal\\_snus\\_January\\_2011\\_1of2\\_b.jpg I read their first attempt had less than 3mg of nicotine per portion…weak! I wonder how horrid v.2.0 will be…
Fail
The Marlboro crap is nasty. Tried it last week, ick!
I like Camel Snus a little bit. The new flavors, Robust and Winterchill, have portions comparable in size and nic content to swedish snus. They’re a little dry but not as dry as Frost or Mellow were. Robust isn’t too sweet either, it’s a pretty good flavor. And if you don’t hate wintergreen, winterchill is a fine flavor. I get them when I don’t have any General. I haven’t tried Marlboro Snus but it doesn’t look like they’re even trying (I think that Camel Snus is at least somewhat trying to compete with swedish snus). I also like my growing collection of Camel tins. I can’t throw them away.
I’m gonna have to go back and retry camel now
I tries the robust and must say it’s a definite improvement on the first release. Not quite sweedish quality but more of a nic kick. I opened a pouch and the tobacco looked bakeable.
