OT - Skoal Smooth Mint Snus

I just bought a can of this to try it out. It’s not bad. The bags are big and the paper isn’t too thick like Camel. It had a moderate amount of nic. It had a nice tingle and was sweet but not too sweet. I might make it a part of my rotation.

Skoal thats not too sweet? I dont believe it =0

It’s pretty sweet imo. The new Skoal X-TRA WinterGreen Blend is okay. Skoal X-TRA Rich tastes like cough syrup.

I thought it was vile, myself. I’ll stick to real snus. Plus I swear the stuff made my tongue break out with little welts all over it. Ouch! And the “portions” are freaking huge. But if you like it, all the power to you! The flavor wasn’t completely horrid, I seem to recall.

Considering the options; camel snus, or paying 200% including shipping for the real stuff. Its my best option atm.

well they are at least stumbling in the right direction.

I had the mint and it was ok. It was too sweet for me but I don’t like roda lacket or goteborgs rape no2 anymore and it wasn’t much worse than that. The nicotine hit seemed a little stronger than a regular portion. I heard after enough is bought they’ll come out with copenhagen snus so keep buying your sacrifice is appreciated.

"Skoal X-TRA Rich tastes like cough syrup. " So it’s awesome then. It’s the crappy taste that lets you know it’s working.

This is the 2nd batch of snus from Skoal, right ? I heard about rumours that, in the first place, that their snus (and from Malboro and Camel) is sooo fu**ing worse - it seems they did that on purpose. The line was, that maybe thoose company tried to introduce the american consumers to such a horrible version of snus so they would loose their interest in real snus and so the companies could secure the market share. Anyone else heard about that ? Does this still apply to the “newer” batch of american snus ?? I am just curious, i never had snus from Skoal, Camel, etc. but i heard this rumour several times on american boards.

I tried the mild mint and I actually really enjoyed it! I’ve had bad luck with snus so when this one satisfied me I was baffled…

i have smooth mint, other than being a bit oversweet, its ok

@Prismaster: there is speculation that it is made horrid on purpose. See also: http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/3730/ot-marlboro-pseudosnus/#Item\_1 Furthermore, I just got 5 pounds of real snus for around $167 dollars. Northerner was having a “free shipping sale” Thats like a $25 dollar-off coupon right there. Going on until April 5 I believe. That is not at all bad, considering with tax I paid 19 freaking dollars for 3 cans of General at a cigar store. Ordering from the net is very economical, especially if you wait for Northerner’s killer sales, you just have to order a lot to offset the shipping costs.

I heard that Northerner has terrible customer service.

I used to order quite a bit from Northerner. I did once receive a package in horrible condition, like somebody jumped on it - but that was probably caused sometime during shipping. The other down side to ordering from them was that it took like a freakin’ month to get to me here in upstate NY.

doesnt’ take that long now. shipped out of PA

On the OP’s comment, I wonder when American snus makers will finally get it right. I have tried most all American snus out there, and it doesn’t even come close to the real deal. I mean it can’t be that hard. The best snus is basically tobacco, water, salt, and a little bit of flavor. Maybe kidnap a Swede and get the formula from him. It seems like they are making snus for kids over here with the candy like flavors.

P.S. I did read the article about U.S. snus sabotage, but that seems a little farfetched. I think it is mostly incompetence.

@scylla The US is marketing their ‘snus’ more towards what they think is the preferable tastes of us Americans. But it is convenient for those High School kids that have gotten hooked on cigs, but can’t smoke in class. The portions are sugary sweet, you don’t have to spit, and you get your nic fix! In short…nope, they’ll never get it right…lol!!!

@scylla: Probably is incompetence, but I wouldn’t put it past them to be nefarious. When I re-open the old Garrett Mill here in New Sweden, in addition to a few snuffs, we will make a snus. “Queen Christina” Snus for our colony’s benefactor.

Right, just wiped out my first can of this stuff. Its…OK! Tastes like spearmint chewing gum, it is a bit sweet-but tastes like an artificial sweetener. I didn’t find the taste overpowering or overly sweet in itself, but it is different from the heavily salted Swedish stuff. Portions are fairly big, but the bag material was comfortable, compared to generals which tore my gum to bits. Nicotine felt like a regular portion, perhaps a little bit stronger. I will give it 7/10. Its OK.
