I bought some Twinings of London Classic Earl Grey today. I like it! I added a splash of milk and some sugar and it went down very nicely. Together with the new Toque SP Extra I enjoyed a jolly good half hour out in the garden. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for all your advice and info. Much appreciated.
Have any of you tried Yerba Mate tea? Commonly drank in South America. Very caffeinated, but not real strong tasting. More like a green tea than a black. Very uplifting.
@pieter You’re very welcome! It’s a little like an aromatherapy session. I had to fight off the urge to buy a box of Earl Grey yesterday. Wanted to wait until the SP extra arrived, so I could get the full “Bergamot rush”. @Carol I used to love Yerba Mate, but quit when the heart problems started, due to some dire warnings from Doctors. It’s really heavy caffeine-wise.
I use Yerba Mate on occasion. Its not bad, but again, I prefer the richness of the black teas.
I don’t know why, but for me Earl Gray tea is an almost instantaneous headache cure,.it really is a great tea.
@snuffster Those could be headaches brought on by stress. Bergamot has a similar effect to a mild tranquiliser. It opens up the sinuses as well, so if that’s the underlying cause, it’s helpful in that way, too. I think that’s why I purchased the Lavender and the SP Extra. Aside from being great Snuffs, they’re also therapeutic. (I need all the stress reduction I can get!)
When I have a headache, a cup of something with a lot of caffeine usually helps ease it for me.
A good strong tea is pu erh. Comes in a couple forms (brick, bing cha, and loose) and two amin processing methods (raw or cooked). Best stuff is raw, pressed in bricks, and aged for at least five years or so. There are some of these teas out there from the days of the Republic on the mainland, and quite a bit from the early Red days. (They used to make up special molds for the bricks to mark historical occasions.) Very nice stuff, even the cheap loose stuff, impossible to over-steep, and very strong. Kinda pungent and earthy, smells like mushrooms, sometimes; ya either loves it or hates it, and me, I loves it.
One of the local Chinese restaurants actually calls red Puerh “stinky dirt tea”. LOL It’s one of the best hot weather drinks in the world and an excellent digestive.
Many tea drinkers I know here in England dont consider rooibos at tea, it is herbal, many of us don’t consider any of the other herbals teas as teas, they are fruit infusions. My favourite every day Tea is ‘Yorkshire Tea’ or Ringtons extra strong in the morning. But Earl Grey is special with a splash of milk. I like the bergamot very much. I think this is why my favourite snus is monte cristo lös as apart from the fine cuban tobacco it is quite heavily flavoured with bergamot. regarding darjeeling, the best cup of darjeeling I ever had was in betty’s tea shop in York. Did anyone see this video 'cup of brown joy
I love a good strong English or Irish Breakfast tea, with a splash of milk and just a wee bit of sugar.
A good cup of Bewley’s is fantastic, Carol…I agree whole heartedly!
@snusify, that video was awesome! I’ve not had any earl grey in a long time, though I do like a nice cup of Chai tea with a splash of milk.
Mmmmm Chai!
Masala Chai used to be made with something other than Tea leaves.
