One Nostril or Both

Still not trying the cayenne thing myself. Although I will say that I tried a neti pot tonight and well although strange at first, I find the end result satisfying. Ken

Never leave one nostril behind! Now that is a motto to snuff to.

I get the one stuffy nostril effect. Neti pot usually sorts it out. The other method is to sniff some strong menthols up the stuffy one, this usually gets things moving.

@Sniffs: Maybe the alternate clogging and more sensitivity in one nostril are related because The one which is partially clogged is the one that I get more scent from, no matter which it is.

Has anyone tried to snuff some black pepper? -Kidnapper

No but someone who once bummed cigarettes from me too much I pranked with a cigarette loaded with black pepper. Ken

I always snuff with both nostrils.

@devilock76 I boobytrapped a friends rollup with some flash powder once.

@bish, Not sure which is more vicious, guess it depends on respiratory and facial hair variables. Ken

I sniffed black pepper once. A baker made me do it, he claimed to snuff it all the time to clear his nose off flour dust. It was a prank, of course.

@Nachman That is very interesting and would make sense (no pun intended) since the clogged one would presumably be the moister one. For me though it just seems to be the left nostril. Go figure

Sinister is usually more closed than Dexter, although it alternates without notice, and switches back without notice. Holding the open nostril closed and forcing the lazy one to work usually works for me. Once it has snuff in it, it usually wakes up for awhile. Then it gets drowsy and I’m back to single side breathing. Double Side Band is redundant anyway. Like others, I never noticed I had a lazy nostril until I began snuff. Sometimes both are wide open though. I probabaly have a slightly deviated septum. I think I read once that straight ones are rather rare. Yes, I snuffed black pepper once as a kid after seeing cartoon characters do it. I wanted it to make me sneeze, I only remember pain.

Well inhaling burning black pepper is worse than snuffing it. The effect is akin to tear gas. And it wasn’t the whole cigarette. I emptied out the first 1/2 inch or so and packed in a 1/4" or so of the black pepper and then tipped it off with tobacco. Basically he lit it, got two drags, then it hit the pepper. This guy was a big guy, a rugby player at the college I went to, it dropped him like he got kicked in the chest. Hind sight being 20/20 I would never try that prank again. A little too harsh. Different kind of person these days as well. Ken

I have snuffed black pepper as well as cayenne. For that matter, ginger, turmeric, echinacea, goldenseal, nutmeg…well the list goes on. Black pepper has a little less run than cayenne, and very nice and warming. The next time you need a parlor trick snuff some black pepper, you won’t be sorry and you probably won’t even sneeze.

Juxtaposer wrote “I have snuffed black pepper as well as cayenne. In fact right now I’m thinking of sniffing some old bay seasoning, shrimp, and kabasa sausage over rice. :>)

@Devilock76 Flash powder offers no danger to respiration, more of a danger to the eyebrows.

both nostrils every time. snuffing a little tends to get my mucus active so maybe one little sniff to get the nose working and then I can clear it and take a big pinch.

Same here pike, if i have a blocked one, I blow it to get it a little open, then sniff a little fine dry stuff (sparrow cool is great) and this opens it up pretty well.

@pike mopers Same here both nostrils all the way!!!

@bish, I think it depends on the overall heat involved. Ken
