We must agree to disagree. One may use snuff however they see fit, whether that be nasally, orally, ocularly, rectally, or what have you. That’s my opinion anyways, and I’m not much into dust in my mouth, but I also acknowledge that LOTS of people do it. Its all good.
I have reason to believe the transition from using American snuff nasally to orally happened in the 1930’s Dust Bowl with the outbreaks of ‘dust pneumonia’. That’s when they went to using it orally…right there. They named the day, Black Sunday. Look it up, lest we forget our history.
As I’ve already said I’ve only learned about dipping snuff here, on this forum. Where I grew up, chewing tobacco was a favourite way of using tobacco but I’ve never seen anyone dipping. But South Africa is a big country and there might be dippers elsewhere. I just can’t imagine our native population doing it. They are moving “forward” and snuffing, pipe smoking, RYO and maybe dipping, are old style. I’ve tried dipping maybe 3 or 4 times but it does not appeal to me. I’m also scared it might damage my gums and teeth and I don’t like the gritty feeling in my mouth. So, Ntsu goes in my nose when I use it, which is not often. I only go to it when I feel like a real BIG buzz. At present I’m almost out of stock and I’m not in the least uneasy about it. I have so many other nicer snuffs to satify my needs.
Pieter, just curious, have you had any real American dip? Like Copenhagen?
Tom, the only real American dip I’ve had was very old and bone dry. I’ve never tried Copenhagen.
Next time you make a Northerner order, stick a can in with it.
Pieter makes a telling point; to him Dholakia White is just another snuff, nothing special, to me I need crash team standing by if I take a grain more than usual and have to use it in a bullet because it delivers a smaller amount (and by the way you are a prominent and respected member Pieter) Xander, you say Im completely wrong. On reflection I tend to agree. I think I got it wrong about the urban myth side. The reality is that we all experience snuff in different ways and I didn’t pay enough respect to that point in my argument. I’m a big ugly bastard, I can stand being wrong.
expectation is always a huge part of any experience. It doesn’t make what is experienced any less real If someone expects vodka to make them crazier then whiskey are they wrong even if the expectation makes it so. If I took the same snuff split it in two added a diffrent scent to each and told someone that snuff one was made from stronger tobacco I would be suprised to find that it actualy increased the uptake of nicotine for them when they took snuff one. The human mind and body is just that strange really. Oddly I feel I get more nicotine from snuff then smoking yet when I started snuffing it seemed the other way around, I suspect that as I started to anticipate snuff to scratch my itch my body got in line and increased the up take. Just a guess though really.
I’m dipping a fair pinch of WE Garrett Sweet at the moment, together with Grov Los. The buzz is still absent!!
Sorry I stole it. I’am the buzzstealer. ha ha
