New wooden snuff spoon today...

thanks for the pic. It is interesting to watch as an artist refines a design. What are the dimensions? The pipe tamper is a nice touch but either needs to be wider or that spoon is about 16" long, lol.

It’s 6 1/8" long and the tamper is 3/8" in dia., it actually works fine you just tamp in a circle, I make it smaller to fit all bowl sizes, you can get a smaller tamper into a larger bowl but you can’t get a larger tamper into a small one.

@SnuffSniffer I love the new spoon, beautiful work really, way to go … I like the metal cap too.

Got it in today. It’s even more awesome than the picture. Truly fantastic! Thanks for making these!

Snuff spoon/pipe tamper #3, this one is made of well aged Walnut and is 7" long with an 11mm solid brass tamp, I just opened a shop at Esty called BriarBoy, I also have pipe tampers available…

@SnuffSniffer Dude, awesome! I’m lovin’ my spoon, it feels so fancy and elegant to use. Any chance you’d be willing to make small pocket-sized models?

I sure am.

@SnuffSniffer…You are the Rembrant of the art!

I got to see a snuff spoon made out of a popsicle stick while I was at the monastery. It was awesome… lots of intricate design work in the handle I think that I am going to be presented with one as a gift on my next visit.

@howdydave which branch of monks use tobacco? I must admit the only monks I’ve been in contact with are Buddhist monks, they know about my tobacco use but I do it discreetly when I’m there and never in the buildings. It’s great that certain monastics use snuff. Stefan

Hey @snuffsniffer, let me now where I can get one of those!

Right here, BriarBoy - Etsy Canada

@Walrus1985 - These are Eastern Orthodox… Actually one is an Archimandrite (one step lower than a bishop) who happens to live at the monastery and the other is a new novice who may only be allowed to indulge until he gets over his smoking habit.

@howdy I think I might convert if they allow you to use snuff lol. Seriously, that is brilliant at least they understand that people might have addictions which need to be overcome for the monastic life, and they let them work through it. Stefan

It’s great that certain monastics use snuff., Hi, I know that in Tibetan Buddhism the Karma Kagyu school are using snuff and there are another Buddhist Monasteries in Russia (i forgot their name now… I can check it when it’s interesting for you) that are using snuff . It’s not as part of the practice of course, but the people (monks as well as the lay people) who liked to use it can use it (: I know that (even) the former spiritual head of the Vajrayana (Diamond way) used to use the White Elephant… As far that I know (and maybe I’m wrong) they use it to stay awake. They don’t really get enough time for sleeping (: This is why I have started with snuff… Not enough sleep (:

@Tashi this is an English monastery, in the Zen tradition. The abbot doesn’t like tobacco use but if it is discreet he’s not too bothered, but among the monks nobody uses it. Stefan

Love them! Wish I had a lathe…
