Nice to see this article on Lundy Foot being revived.
@Johnny mentioned about the story being covered by The New York Mirror 1833.
I took this to be the original report on the fire, and assumed this to be the date of the accident.
After a quick peep at the old newspapers, the earliest mention that I can find for Lundy Foot so far is a newspaper notice from 1810.
I shall keep trawling, but I have not found the actual fire yet.
Here is the article from The Hull Packet 13th March 1810.
Lundy Foot and Co. in order to obviate the difficulties which those in the Tobacco Trade have hitherto experienced in obtaining their Snuff from Ireland, beg leave to inform them and the Public in general, that they have OPENED a WHOLESALE WAREHOUSE , at No.50, Leicester Square, LONDON, where said Articles may be had. And as it is their present intention to relinquish the retail thereof, and not to interfere with any other article of said Trade, they most earnestly request that those who may honour them with their commands, will retail it as received from them in its original purity, being determined to afford the most liberal encouragement to those who buy to sell again.
