Maybe you could throw the Madras up on the B/S/T thread.
Oh, OK. Count me in.
ALL GONE Thanks for all that tossed their hat in!
Shucks.
Bob, I think Tom will want to get rid of his Madras. If anyone doesn’t pay, you will get first dibs.
Thanks I just wanted to say shucks. For some reason I found the thread begining and ending with the theme of all gone kind of sad. Nah I’am still far behind on my trying all the easily available snuffs I want.
I just got my Swastik and Madras in the mail today. Thanks a lot, cstokes! I’ve had the Madras before, and it’s a good “plain” non-menthol, maybe a little too fine grind for me, but I sniff it now and again. I was really interested in the Swastik, and while not “great” or really “special”, it is very good and has a good “taste”, and nice menthol cool. The grind seems fine, yet it seems fairly easy for me to sniff. I wish it was packaged in a real container though, as it’s in a plastic bag in a cardboard box, so I think I’ll have to put it in another container. I just got this, so it’s just my initial impression, though I think Dholakia Sparrow Cool is a bit better, but I find it’s grind too fine, though it has an excellent “taste”. This is very good though, and one I’ll be on a lot.
Great, give me more reasons to stare at the mailbox until the letter carrier comes! I’m expecting a Mr. Snuff shipment today as well.
same here, chris … mine was in the mailbox when i arrived home today … all i have tried so far is the madras … but i like it … not “too” much in the way of spices, but just enough to make it a very nice snuff. i prefer fine grinds, the finer the better, and while this was “caked” all in the tin (which is cool in and of itself) i crumbled it up and snuffs great. thanks, again…
I’ve noticed my can of Madras, is slightly different than the Madras I bought locally. But, I think locally, they did have the other cans at one time too. My locally aquired can is designed a bit different, in a glossy paper, and says T.A.S. Chellayyah T.A.S. Jawaharayyah, and P.B. 1052. The one I got from cstokes says, P.B. 6061, and has JRS on the label. They are both in Chennai, and both use the “registered trade mark”. I wonder if they are different? Some of you have the glossy paper labeled can.
Tom the one you sent me has PB 3000, (Jayaram & Rathnakumar) and looked like the one in Stokes’ photo. The one shikitohno sent me has PB 777 ( Shree Arumugam Ramamurthy) and was different though some of the images were the same (I think trademark law is not well respected in India). But they were definatley from two different companies.
That’s odd. Maybe PB means something other than an address. That’s 4 different PB numbers now. The one I got from CStokes, is like the ones I first saw at the local Indian store, looks wise(label deisgn and paper used), then they got the glossy paper more colorful one in. And I exchanged off my older one. So now I have the glossy paper one opened, and the one I just got from CStokes, unopened. I do really like the Swastik, I’ve been on it all the time.
They could have moved. It is hard to tell how old the different cans are. It think the ones I mailed out are new, considering the US warnings on them.
Yeah, the glossy labeled one I have with the stripes on top, and says “No. 1”, and “Sovereign in Colour”, has no “warning” label at all. But then, I don’t know if they label them in india like that, as the Swastik has no “warning” either, apart from the sticker on the bottom.
On the “Snuff Collection” thread, I posted a pic of my collection, and the two Madras next to each other. I noticed one says Rathnam, and the other doesn’t. I haven’t yet opened the other one.
If you have some Super Chetak, try taking a big pinch of it and chasing it with a little Swastik. Flavors work nicely together IMO.
I had some Super Chetak, but I think it was the grind, but I exchanged it off. I might revisit it again sometime. But my fave snuffs are the medium grind/moisture, with a cool menthol, like the Himalaya/Super/Special, and the Kailesh/Super/Special/Anarkali.
