are these all fine snuffs? comparable to… ?
@Firestarter0 whoops good point forgot their descriptions Gulab Sugandh Sagar Rose - A dry, fine rose scented snuff. NB Madras - A typical madras style snuff (fine and fried in ghee) with a nice strong hit of nicotine. Krushna Photo Brand - Moist, earthy brown snuff with musky and slightly spice smell to it. Horse Brand - Moist earthy brown snuff which has hints with i can only describe as hints Turkish delight. Will update the original post
@Firestarter0 sorry misread your question as well. The Rose and the NB Madras are fine snuffs.
Order complete
Thank you for your kind words @Roderick Yes I know PayPal isn’t ideal it’s just a stop gap for now, would much rather bank transfers. Hopefully will get a real payment processor sorted out soon
I can recommend the NB Madras to those who like strong, unscented Indian snuffs!
NB Madras ordered from @indiansnuff. Thanks mate.
Just ordered one of each from @indiansnuff… Looking fwd… Many Thanks.
Ordered one of each!
Indiansnuff, best of luck in your venture. Watch out for Paypal seizing your money for selling tobacco. it’s good you have an alternative method of payment. The tins look great.
Let’s hope there are no grasses on the forum…

I agree, I think it would not be an untruth to sell it as “Herbal Remedy for fatigue”, let’s hope the big super computer at PayPal has not intercepted communications…maybe we could have a code word book…
I should have the proper payment processor set up shortly so fingers crossed
Yeah guys, just use common sense. Avoid the words “tobacco” or “snuff” in your transactions and paypal will have no clue, and your orders will go through fine. Its not good for a long term commercial use, but paypal is good for trades between members until indiansnuff gets his webshop up and running.
As @xander says PayPal is just there are a stop gap for people that can’t do the bank transfer. I am currently on talks with a payment processor and as soon as it’s sorted the option to pay by PayPal will be removed and the website open. Thank you and have a great day everyone
There is always a possibility of a mole. It has happened before.
Glad you like them @lunecat
@indiansnuff Thanks for the Snuffs, and the super speedy delivery, wasn’t expecting them today but boy what a surprise. They are both amazing, looks like I’ve found a whole new adventure into Indian Snuffs. Thanks again.
Mine arrived this morning. I will update this post as I sample them. NB Madras: This is seriously strong. There is a toasted flavour to it, but it is essentially plain tobacco and very finely ground. I don’t normally notice a nicotine hit from snuff, but this one has definitely set my heart rate up. When I was at school, there was a boy who lived in Africa (Kenya, I think) and every now and then he would bring back some African cigarettes called ‘Rooster’. They were the most outrageously strong cigarette I have ever smoked - more hardcore even than Belomorkanal Papirossi (those are the Russian ones with the cardboard tubes). I think I have found the snuff equivalent! Gulab Sugandh Sagar Rose: I wasn’t expecting the menthol! This snuff smells like artificial rose - think Fry’s Turkish Delight on steroids - but the first thing you get from a pinch is a considerable menthol blast. Once the menthol has faded the rose confectionery remains, and is really quite pleasant, but it’s an unusual experience. I’ll certainly be keeping it around for the occasional pinch, but it’s definitely not for everyday. Consistency is quite dry but fluffy - although it’s very compacted in the tin - and it’s easy to take. I suspect that if you like highly scented snuffs like SG Cuckoo or Bouquet then this will entertain you. Horse Brand & Krushna Photo Brand: I’ve grouped these together because, to be honest, I don’t think I could tell the two apart in a blind tasting. Whereas the Rose and the Madras came tightly packed in the tin like American scotches, these two are both more moist, and looser in a tin that has a tinfoil seal rather like a tin of cocoa powder. Both have light menthol over a sort of generically ‘Indian’ musky/floral scent. Menthol is perhaps slightly more prominent in the Photo Brand, and the floral note is perhaps more prominent in the Horse Brand, but essentially these seem like two different manufacturers’ takes on the same style. They are both easy to take, and I suspect would be nice additions to the collection if you are a particular fan of the style, but neither made the same impression as the Madras or the Rose. Overall, though, I have really enjoyed sampling some very different snuffs, and although I think only the Rose and the Madras will be ‘keepers’ for me, I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet taken up @indiansnuff on his offer to do so, and order as many as you can - especially if, like me, your experience of Indian snuffs is currently limited.
@indiansnuff do you have any inkling yet of when the site might be live with your extend range? I have been holding back from PMing you about the above snuffs in anticipation of a bigger selection to come (not that I need more snuff) but I really want to try some madras snuffs - not sure I can hold out!
@theboggart going to be a few weeks sadly
Can’t wait to your site up and running
First come first serve I have a few tins of Tps madras, Tps madras black and 7photo swami also for £3 a tin. Tps madras is similar to the Nb but the black is a much smoother soot like version. The swami is a very sweet snuff flavoured with the usual Indian species, very suitable for oral use too.
@indiansnuff what snuffs will you have that are free of menthol ?
@kurtnose the madras and rose are free of menthol and very minimal in the swami
@indiansnuff PM sent!
@Indiansnuff, you sent me a tin of the Swami a while back. I must say, I don’t usually like menthols, but I did like the Swami. I wouldn’t say the menthol is “very minimal”, it’s certainly readily apparent. At the same time, it’s not a sledgehammer, it’s just one flavor amongst many. I get a hint of aniseed in there, as well as temple incense. When my lady, who works at a school attended by many expatriate Indian children, sniffed at it, she said it smells exactly like the incense that they use there at religious ceremonies. In general, I like plain tobacco snuffs for everyday, all day use, but Swami is very nice for a change. Also, when I first got it, I had a bit of a cold and was suffering from some congestion. The Swami was an excellent decongestant, and I continue to use it to counteract the effects of some congesting snuffs. I probably won’t buy more of that one, I think the one you sent me will last some time, but I look forward to ordering some of the others in the near future, when your stock expands a bit. I really think the Indians have the hang of menthol!
@jakartaboy guess my ability to detect menthol has been destroyed from taken too much methol. @kurtnose your probably best off reading what others have said on this thread then listening to me Hehe
Wow! The order arrived fast, even with the storms we’ve had here in New England. Can’t wait to get home and crack the tins. Thanks for the awesome service.
Holy exploding head, Batman! Wow, that NB Madras is killer (in a good way). Love the scent and the the nic-hit is amazing–way better than any snuff I’ve tried, including White Elephant and Willie Pete. Not for the faint of heart.
Received my 50g NB Madras today. Fine unscented plain snuff, very good nic hit. I really like this snuff and don’t see it lasting long. It’s very easy to take and is inoffensive. Highly recommended. Thanks @indiansnuff. Will be ordering more when the shop opens.
Well my snuff order arrived at lightening speed from @Indiansnuff, however I have only just had a chance to sample the Madras snuff and the Sagar Rose snuff. The Madras comes in a short tin cylinder, very packed, with a pretty wrapper, it is a very fine powdery grind. This is a new variety/style of snuff for me and the closest I could place it is too a dryer “Original style” schmalzer that you can find in Bavaria, i.e. real clarified butter or lard. I have only ever had the Bavarian one once or twice, but I can distinctly smell the ghee butter that they fry it in coming through. It certainly has a nice strong kick of Nicotine and maybe because of the butter after the initial kick I found a very pleasurable, soothing and moisturising inside my nose, that slowly descended before a tissue/handkerchief was required. I could imagine that this would be a very nice all day snuff from what I have experienced with only a few hrs of use. The tobacco flavour is very natural and mild, maybe similar to a very plain SP, however for me the butter adds an extra and indeed very agreeable dimension. The Sagar Rose snuff, is wonderful. It is essentially an attar of rose, with a slight menthol smell, although which type of menthol i could not exactly say, its mild (we need one of the acutely gifted smellers to nail it). The rose smell has a very Indian flavour/smell too it, i know that we have our rose snuffs in Europe but this just has that exotic nuance, with some other spice smell just hidden underneath, but so faint as hard to place. Nicotine medium. Another pinch and I again got the menthol oil, the strong Attar of Roses, and something else fleeting (I could have continued this however my hands has started to sweat)… Defiantly one for the collection, and maybe when the moment takes me, not so sure about all day, but again I suppose its what you get used to, and maybe after persevering It could become a regular or all day snuff. Defiantly worth a try as its so different. I have not yet sampled the other snuffs that arrived, but shall report back in due course…
Thank you everyone for the reviews. I’m glad everyone is really enjoying them
I opened a tin of Krushna this evening and it’s the only snuff I’ve taken for a few hours, which is unusual for me. It’s fine and moist and very much what i was hoping it would be like- unlike the black, sooty Indian snuffs I’ve tried-but with a very familiar flavour profile- spicy and floral and slightly mentholated with tobacco scent in there, albeit deeply buried. I find it easy to take and the tin is a delight. @indiansnuff, thanks.
I received a package from @indiansnuff this morning with the same lightening speed as the rest of you. I ordered the NB Madras, Krushna Photo plus both the TPS Brand Madras snuffs. As the package arrived this morning I started my day with a big pinch of NB Madras. Holy Smokes! This is a STRONG snuff! Let me tell you, it was a real eye-opener for a first snuff of the day. My tin was packed to brim with fine, tan powder, very similar in grind and consistency to a high dry toast but perhaps just a tiny bit moister. Once I stopped reeling from the nicotine punch I got nice, natural tobacco flavour with the distinct ghee scent also quite recognisable. It reminded me of of Dholakia Sparrow (which I now recognise is a Madras style - I didn’t before) but this is definitely a superior snuff, both in terms of flavour depth and nicotine delivery. It is probably the strongest snuff I ever had and it is 100% awesome. I also tried the TPS Madras. Another superb snuff with a slightly different flavour profile from the NB and not as much nicotine (although it is still a strong snuff that hits harder than most American Scotch snuffs). I have only had a couple of pinches of this one, but I think it is probablyvery slightly coarser than the NB and a little easier to use, but if you use fine snuffs you shouldn’t struggle with either. This tin was also packed full to the brim and it is another top notch product. Whether you preferred the NB or the TPS would be very much a matter of personal taste as they are quite similar apart from the off-the-wall nicotine slam from the NB, but I am pleased to have both in my stash. …and I still have the NB Madras Black and Krushna to try. Will update when I do. Cheers, @indiansnuff!
@lunecat I agree I personally think it beats white elephant and it is a hell of a lot easier to take as well
Tomorrow big day, parcel arrive today at Athens, tomorrow morning i will honor NB Madras with a strong coffee…
Tomorrow big day, parcel arrive today at Athens, tomorrow morning i will honor NB Madras with a strong coffee…
If you are going to do that, my prediction is quite probably >:D< but with a small possibility of @-) if you miscalculate either dose!
Just receive parcel, NB Madras… @-) Everything was fine, fast and clean, Thank you @Indiansnuff
Is anybody able to submit new manufacturers and snuffs to snuffreviews.com? It would be great to see these and @indiansnuff’s other new products listed there.

I have submitted NB Madras in the ‘uncategorised’ section but when I tried to add my review I got an error. If it does work then I will add Krushna too, although I get the impression there may be a lot of snuffs to add when @indiansnuff gets his store running. TPS Madras is already there, but I guess now there are a couple of snuffs from this manufacturer it should maybe have its own section…which leads me to: TPS Madras Black - I tried my tin today. Very unusual snuff to me. Dark and fine yet also quite moist and clumpy. It is very messy to take and leaves me looking as though I have stuck my head in a coal scuttle! Not one for the office then. @indiansnuff is right to describe it as ‘sooty’ - I can see what he means, but I prefer to describe it as ‘coal-like’. If you have had the GH&Co plain Kendal Brown you will have an idea of the scent I am trying to describe, although this one has almost no sweetness underlying it, which is instead replaced by a buttery smoothness. Although the scent ain’t complex it is quite a powerhouse in terms of longevity. I took a pinch and went for a walk and could still detect the scent in my nose an hour later! This is not as strong as the light TPS Madras, but still has a decent nicotine lift. For me, it is probably not a daily snuff although it might be an excellent snuff for blending with heavily scented, black Indian snuffs if you wanted to tone them down a little. I have no idea if this is similar to Dholakia Black but it is certainly not similar to any snuff that I have tried before. Definite quality and if it is to your taste then it will be a five star product, although for me it is probably four stars. Next up - Krushna
Now out of stock of the Tps madras brown, the black is still in stock though. Thank you for all your support and fear not still plenty of supplies for all the other brands.

The Madras Black wasn’t one of the tins shown at the top of the post? What else 'ya got in stock?
@mecompco sorry forgot to update the top thread when I added a post. Tps madras black and 7photo swami in very small quantiles
Krushna: Very nice! Medium brown, medium moist and fine - very similar in appearance to Super Kailash but quite distinct in terms of scent. This is a gentle snuff in every respect. The menthol is not overpowering and it is joined by a delicate musk and spice aroma which eventually displays some just perceptible floral notes (violet?). I didn’t think it was that strong in nicotine but I had just dosed heavily with Lundy Foot a few minutes before so that probably lessened the hit. A nice clearing effect and its gentler character would probably make it more suited to regular pinches than some of the flower-bomb Indian snuffs. If you enjoy the 6P range then this is one to try - a similar animal but with a character all of its own. Me like!
Yesterday I recieved mine too 1 NB Madras & 1 Gulab Sugandh Sagar Rose. * NB Madras: Just jumped into my top 5 strongest snuffs! Fine grind , dry, honest tobacco with a bit of smoke and very high in nicotine, if you are a nicotine fiend this can be an alldayer. * Gulab Sugandh Sagar Rose: Fine and dry, medium-high nicotine, very aromatic, scented with just a hint of menthol, rose and maybe sandalwood or a bit of lavender, long lasting. If you like spicy & refreshing florals that stay with a long time this one is for you!
A wide range of 7photo snuffs has been ordered and should be arriving next week. My website with bank transfer options will hopefully be opening when it arrives. Thank you
Yippe Skippy! Let us know when we may partake!
2 weeks left of discounted prices. After that prices will be returning to normal, (£3.50 is depending on the snuff) Just to make it clear it’s the Tps madras that’s out of stock not the Nb madras, I still have plenty of that. Thank you
Just got my NB Madras from @indiansnuff . Very nice indeed, grind similar to Toque so none in the lungs, nice scent and a good nic hit. Bravo!

Actually, Toque makes me cough almost every time I snuff it. I even had been having a chronic cough for few weeks, as long as I’ve been taking only Toque. Is it even possible to have snuff in lungs?

I have to think so–have you tried Dholaka White/Willie Pete/White Elephant?
@Viertel “Is it even possible to have snuff in lungs?” I’ve had it happen with WE. I’m still to new to keep the extremely fine grinds out of my lounges. I actually coughed up a glob of WE during the time I was trying to get used to taking it.
My ones arrived today, extremely quick shipping. The Horse Brand Joshi is utterly delicious.
Thank you for the kind words @r25 The 7photo has been collected from india and should be arriving at the end of the week or early next week, the website will be opening then, I shall only be accepting bank transfer payments via the website for the short future whilst I try to sort card payments out. Sorry for the delay in getting the site operational. Thank you
@indiansnuff do you have the NB Madras in stock? If so, what sizes, cost, and where can I place my order? thanks!
Totally looking forward to your website. I want a wider range indian snuffs orally. I sniff em as well but they work pretty fine orally as well (at least for me).
@paulie everything that is in the first post is still in stock. All the details are there. Thank you
@indiansnuff Excellent!! PM sent.

In India most of the snuff is consumed orally as a dentifrice
@sixphoto I’ve been wondering for a while, would Indians think it strange of someone to sniff something like Kailash, or is there still a general awareness that the snuffs were at one time nasal?
@horus92 Of course it is generally known and accepted that snuff was meant to be used nasally and it is still used as such in many areas but the oral use is many times bigger than nasal.
Yeah I know in the states in some parts of the south people think dry snuff is only for dipping (though a minority was still sniffing them within living memory). I’ve even heard of people buying European dry snuffs at tobacconists and dipping them! Thanks for answering.
I’d be interested to know if Indian snuffs are kept and used solely from the original containers or if there is a market in snuffboxes, for easy transport, style, whatever and if they are readily available. (?)
I actually don’t find the NB Madras to be super strong, though it’s definitely stronger than normal. I haven’t tried it yet, but I think I’ll end up loving the TPS Black Madras a lot more, it smells incredibly intriguing but I’m saving it 'til my nose recovers from enjoying the scented ones. Just musing. Great stuff, and I really look forward to trying everything else you end up getting (eventually - now I have 350g of it to get through!) Edit: hot dog, both of the TPS snuffs are top shelf. The black smells so sooty I’m almost convinced there must be some sort of wood- or shrub-ash in it, just like Tibetan snuffs traditionally contain. It has a strong herby smell which makes me feel even more that it has ash (I might be totally off-base though, tobacco itself can create a surprising variety of scents). The herby smell reminds me of when I was a little kid and liked to pretend I was an alchemist and would gather tons of Virginian weeds from the yard. It’s very raw, natural, and delightful. The plain is just a solid plain snuff, much better than the NB to me (NB reminds me of grunt, has that ashtray thing, maybe it’s just the one tin?). It’s hard to describe what plain snuffs smell like, I will say there’s a strong toast-like element thanks to the frying. In fact you could call this “Indian Toast” and it’d be a very accurate description. They both have a certain “industrial” quality, for lack of a better term. The scent makes me think of an old dirty factory. I suppose there’s a pretty decent chance these snuffs actually are made in an old dirty factory. They are also both remarkably DRY in the nose. I have taken a good five pinches since I’ve come to work and though I’ll have some sniffles for a couple minutes I haven’t had to blow my nose once. This fact alone makes them must-reorders for me, as most snuffs set my nose running like niagara falls (even whites produce a decent amount of effluent for me). They’re both perfectly strong, stronger than most European snuffs but not as strong as the strongest Indian/South African ones. A three or four small pinches is enough to get my hands sweaty. And the logo is super cool. I want to get a t-shirt made with the little white elephant and the mortar and pestle. Even if I hated every other of the snuffs (and I don’t, though I probably won’t reorder any besides maybe the rose) it was worth getting all of them to discover these two!
Sorry for the lack of update on the website progress. Its coming along nicely, just waiting for the final few things to come together then it will be open, until then all the prices quoted in this thread remain active (so £3 a tin). Cheers and have a great day
The gf loves taking photos so i’m sure the photos will be beautiful. Again sorry for the delay in setting up the site but you cant rush these things
Got mine about a week ago (8 days in the mail!) but I had a cold to deal with before I could try them. I went with the rose, NB madras, horse brand, and the Krushna photo. All of them are excellent! Thanks Indian Snuff!!!
NB madras is STRONG!
I agree about the NB Madras, really strong, yet nice. Also the TPS is great and has a little more flavor to my nose. Both are very good and powerful. I may try mixing them in the future, but for now they are good alone. ANd the tins are just packed really full, no air inside, nothing but lots of snuff.
Does anyone know why the Madras snuffs are fried in ghee? I like the tobacco, grind, etc., but I don’t find the snuff oily. Ghee is clarified butter, I know, but I still wonder what the thinking is behind frying the tobacco in it.
@mrmanos, are you sure it’s actually FRIED with ghee? I thought it was just mixed with ghee. So, basically, just am oil-based snuff.
@mrmanos the ghee helps add to the overall taste/smell of the snuff. @jakartaboy I was always under the impression it was fried in the ghee to give it that slight nutty taste, but then again I could be wrong
Thanks for the info guys. I now notice that what you said must be true. The Madras does have a nutty flavor, must be the ghee. For a plain snuff, it does have a better flavor than some of the English plains, like SG’s Crest series. Much finer grind, more nicotine. And those 50 gm tubs are packed tightly too.
@indiansnuff, you could be right, I dunno.
Frying would make sense for Madras types, and brands like Dholakia Sparrow, which seem to resemble Irish toasts in their own unique way. Perhaps one of our resident Indian snuff manufacturers could shed some insight on this. However, I believe at least the larger companies have transitioned away from ghee towards longer lasting mineral oils (I think both 6 Photo and Dholakia mentioned this here before). Ghee might still be common among the smaller brands, which would include most of the Madras styles.
