I’ve really gotten to liking plain/almost plain snuffs now I find.
My every day all day for weeks-months now has been FT HDT. But I make myself change it up because of going nose blind.
I was loving the dragon madras but have some concerns re JNF ATM so set it aside along with Whitehorse mainly, for now until addressed (if curious it’s posted on Reddit or Facebook from others, re metal powder/magnetic snuff)
I’m hoping the TPS is very nice with a great nic hit!

Hey matey, check out the latest Snusalskare’s comment on that r/ post - it seems that the issue might be down only to oxides (rust), not actual pure metal. Which would be still safe to use (that is, as long as the size of rust particles don’t exceed that of tobacco particles), I assume, it being such a common issue in so many snuffs, not excluding some English and German ones. Some snuff makers could switch to stainless steel or plastic sieves and fermentation vessels, surely wouldn’t hurt, but to be frank I’m not so sure if between rust and possible plastic contam (microplastic or BPA, ftalates etc contamination) I would opt for the latter…
There was a beautiful close up of TAS/TPS posted on r/ a year or so ago, but it was removed by the OP shortly afterwards, unfortunately. OP was worried about the abundance of tiny crystals in the snuff, which actually was nothing to worry about, i. e. alkalizer, which a snuff of this type is rich in. All Madras snuffs are highly alkalized (if my memory doesn’t fail, I have tried 8 of them so far); some of them are alkalized only with calcium hydroxide (visible in snuff as tiny white flakes, akin to chalk), others are also fortified with ammonium carbonate (crystals) for extra punch. Since Madras snuff is made without a single drop of water, i. e. alkalis are incorporated dry (not as a solution or sauce), crystals can be spotted even without zoom / microscope. It’s all good, you can rest assured!

Hopefully it’s no biggie. But for the Whitehorse to be SOOO magnetic kinda worried me. It’s like the snuff itself is iron or something lol.

Between this and my now top favorite FT HDT (and to be fair, toqueUSA whiskey Honey, natural toast, toffee and SD Scotch are up there aswell) I’m set!
I got bulk pouch FT HDT couple months ago, and now 600g this. I’m in heaven for a long while and greatful to be.
I want to spend more time with it before saying much, but;
I can say I already really like it!
And it does pack a punch similar to dragon madras!.
It’s got less of a “stubbed out cigar” like scent/taste compared to the Dragon madras (either/or is nice, I don’t mean it negatively, just how think to describe it) and sofar do like it a bit more.
It is a plane tobacco, with a SLIGHT hint of sweetness possibly?
Could just be the way it was made, or a slight hint of something added like a touch of frankincense like? .
It’s soo subtle that I wouldn’t call it scented and would call it plain though. Might just be how it’s made and nothing added. If something is adde, then it’s a microscopic amount.

Was a bit hesitant at first since you can only buy it by the case of 50gx12, but happy I did sofar.
Some say could just put to marketplace, but I don’t want to hassle with any of that right now personally. (Though I think you mentioned you’re in Ontario aswell, and mentioned hooka1 to me re Canada customs etc?, if so I could put a couple grams in a baggy flat inside a birthday card or something and send it to you to try, if this is a product you’ve been interested in but hesitate since it’s by the case. Lmk if anything )

Noteworthy, both Madras snuffs carried by Hookah1 are true Madrassi, that is, actually made in Chennai (formerly known as Madras). Now in regard to sweetness… I’m not aware if the following applies to all Chennai-made Madras snuffs, but one of the manufacturers uses jaggery-infused tobacco for his product. This peculiar detail is disclosed in Tulsi Badrinath’s book Madras, Chennai and the Self: Conversations with the City. You can find a whole chapter there dedicated to snuffmakers family, shedding some light on the snuff making among other things (no recipe/ratios given though, only ingredients mentioned and process described) A while ago most part of that chapter used to be accessible for reading on Google books. If you’re interested and cannot find it, just let me know.

Thanks for posting on your recently arrived pouch! Alright, I’m convinced, and am ordering a case of it now. Perhaps it will turn out to be a good substitute for the Dragon Madras, which due to apparent unresolved purity issues, I am staying away from for the time being.
It’s a lot of snuff (600g!) but really not all too expensive, all things considered. I just hope that it will age well properly stored (airtight mason jars, in my case).
I will endeavor to post some pictures of the tins / packaging as well once it arrives.

Domestic shipping was not all too much all things considered (just regular USPS priority small package rate it appeared), and even after sales tax it came out to only about US $3.75 per tin. I don’t know why I’ve never bothered to try it out before in past years, or more recently for that matter, but @Blergs report convinced me to do so! In any case, I’ll make an effort to report back with some pics of the packaging when it arrives.
Some years ago, when I was considering to order a case of each Madras snuff from Hookah (back then even with a transatlantic shipping it was quite a tempting, “great value” kind of a deal, coming to about 6€ per can), purely out of curiosity I had checked how much they charged for the delivery of such order to random US address, and it fell somewhere in $20-30 range, if my memory doesn’t fail. Also, I remember some American fellas mentioning relatively high shipping rates as a drawback, but that was a good while ago… Or am I confusing Hookah with some American whole leaf vendor for that matter, now I’m not sure anymore.
It’s quite possible, although they did give options for expedited next business day delivery etc (FedEx; UPS) in that kind of price range at checkout, but the USPS option works just fine for me. Should reach me in two or three days (once they ship it).
I looked and didn’t find the chapter on that, if you happen to have it that you could send that would be great as I am curious. If not, no worries though

Due to the positive report of @Blergs (and encouragement of @volunge) I am happy to share some pics of my recently delivered carton of this snuff. Shipping was quick and the overall cost per tin was quite reasonable. Three of the tins were damaged beyond salvageability (dented in shipping, it appears, and with bottom steel alloy slip fit caps dislodged from their cardboard tubes). This created quite a mess that I had to clean up. Scoopable loose product went into a jar, and the gentle application of a leaf blower outdoors took care of cleaning up the remainder from the unopened tins and carton.
As can be seen in one of the pics, the tins bear a packing date of “Jul-21” (the tin label states “Best Before 5 Years From the Date of Manufacture” by the way). The importer information indicates a phone number area code of Chicago, and of course the seller is located and ships from the Chicagoland area, so I am assuming that “Zarda King Ltd.” as mentioned on the tin label is connected to the ownership of “Jarda King Ltd.” who operates the Hookah1 website. If anyone knows, or wants to put in the research time to parsing out the importer and distributor details, please be sure to share.
Guess mine guess mine is about 4 mo past the 5yr mark (packed on Aug 18)… . Seems fine though and I’ve been happy with it sofar.
Maybe next batch will be fresher like yours.
What I have I think will last a year (I got 400g FT HDT aswell that I’m alternating with as main dailys, along with 100g toqueUSA whiskey Honey, 4x35g cheeta, and bunch of others).
Sucks some failed on you… but even losing 3 it’s still a good deal for good snuff imo.
Dragon madras has more nic, but this one’s got a great punch aswell, no complaints ATM.
I also am new to Madras toasts. I think I’m in the same boat. I got an 8gr tin of Dragon in my last Mr S order and immediately wished I’d gotten more. When I realized it maybe a while before the 100gr tins of Dragon restock, I went ahead and ordered this box of TPS from hookah1. I have not been disappointed. I don’t think I’m going to prefer it over Dragon, which I really enjoyed, but TPS is very enjoyable. I’m loving it in fact. It’s also comforting that I can get a high nicotine snuff with a solid tobacco flavor at a reasonable price delivered quickly in the US.
I don’t get any sweetness from this, but I like the tobacco. I noticed the crystals, which didn’t worry me, but I’m grateful for the explanation about the alkalization method from @volunge above. I’d read several reviews that described damaged tins, so I wasn’t surprised when I got two compromised tins, one with the bottom plate completely popped off and another with some separation at the seam, and a few others with dents. Snuff all over the inside of the box and the other products I ordered. I just took each item out, held it over the lavatory, and brushed it off with an artist’s paint brush. When I opened one of the uncompromised tins, the powder was packed into a solid brick that needed to be broken up to pour it into my snuff box. Is it the ghee that makes it adhere like this?
I just finished a crazy 60+ hour work week wrapping up a year long project I’ve been working and I turn to nicotine to counter fatigue and loss of focus. I basically abused TPS alternating with Afghanistan White and White Horse at my desk to get through it. When I first got the box of 12 I had never ordered this amount of any single snuff, and I thought I’d never need to order it again. Now I’m pretty sure I was wrong about that.
