Poschl schmalzlers are pretty high up there for me but the SPs are putting up a pretty good fight the medicated snuffs are like the ring girls they show up in-between rounds and you are always happy to see them
Oh, I really like a good medicated snuff, the 'cool; feeling it gives, but they don’t like me back causing me to not be able to breathe at all. Pretty consistant. I am still trying to find a decent compromise be it smaller amounts, combined with something else or whatever. Loving the SP’s as @distaind infers but really enjoying the toasts right now. In fact am relishing a Toque Natural Toast right now.
Still haven’t come to a full appreciation for schmalzers yet but working on it. Like @kougy says I am thrilled with the options out there and am making it a sort of mission in life to try them all at some point. May I live long and prosper to make it happen!
@FlippinBird I agree that pretty much all of the ones that I have tried, if not love at first have difinitely grown on me be it whether my tasts have changed or the weather is right or heck maybe my biorhythms need adjusting. Who knows.
@stogie you are right the options are massive and you need double or triple life time to try them all not only for the love of snuff and the nice collecting hobby but actually out of big curiosity! A non boring hobby at last
My favorite type of snuff is non medicated. I really can’t narrow it down from there yet and I do like some menthol snuffs.
Lately I have been using nothing but 6 Photo. I also like Latakias, schmalzlers and some of the F&T oferings (especially Morocco and Bordueaux.) I still like Poschl President.
Hmmm… could be that I am leaning towoard the Indian snuffs because the price is right!
The only snuffs I use are my own or a specific home blend of Toque/WoS. With the Toque/Wilsons home blend I use a mixture of plain toast, quit, natural, vanilla, WoS sherry and raspberry with a leavening of sweet scotch. I usually have that in bulk and I make up a large batch once or twice a year. The occasional Indian or Fubar. Not much else really these days. With the exception of a small amount of old Smith’s or F&T, I don’t have a collection because I have no interest in trying anything else, although I enjoy using the odd samples people are kind enough to send me.
Thanks guys I’am really enjoying this thread. And finding it super interesting. My second favorites are the heavily scented indian and F&T snuffs.
I haven’t style of predilection,I enjoy Medicated,Schmalzler,SP,Indian,South African,Dutch,moist,dry and so on…
I really find my pleasure on snuff diversity(and I’ve got a pretty collection).Every new product discovered make me happy.I can’t imagine loose a subtle one only by unknowing.
I confess however predilection for Samuel Gawith range and WoS moist like Princes,Kendal Brown or Best Dark actually,an other for diversity on mentholated.
@gandalf it too me years of snuffing to come to the conclusion that the most snuffing enjoyment comes from snuffing plain unscented snuffs.
@bob One good unscented plain is Mc Combie for me,always by S.Gawith plains there are the earthlies London Brown,Scotch Black,Black Rappee for example but without additional scents is not without scent by chance
One you might love is Makla Ifrikia equaly.
@gandalf thanks.
@bob you don’t know them ?.
not all of them I haven’t tride and S.Gawith actualy.
Lucky man ,what a pleasure discovering new S.Gawith (I have some too for the futur by chance)
cannot say, all have their merits
I have TONS of snuffs in my collection but…
THE ONES I USE ALMOST EVERYDAY:
grand cairo I carry in a snuff box
quit I also carry
gold label is the third one I carry and the rest I do at home daily atleast once…
tom buck
High dry toast
connoisseur cerise
Abraxas club
If I had to choose one style (and thank god I don’t) I’d go with toasts–HDT, lime toast, Tranter #21. Then plains (London Brown, Black Rappee, Kendal Brown, Babaton Blue, NTSU). Then schmaltzers. Then medicated. Then scotches. Then SPs. Then floral/scented–way down the list–and I LIKE scented snuffs!
I absolutely love plain snuffs, with toasts and scotches making up the bulk of my rotation…head-clearing, strong, fine, and versatile.
I love all snuffs but I have to say schmalzlers and toasts are my two favorites. Klostermischung and Toque whiskey and honey being at the top.
Having only got back into snuff recently I am still experimenting and with the range available from @MrSnuff that will probably take quite some time. At the moment I normally start the day with Poschl Gawith Apricot which seems to clear my head for the day. During the day it is Toque SP Extra or Toque Berwick Brown or Toque Whiskey & Honey which has really grown on me. In the evenings I go for something more flavoured such as De Kralingse Musino or various F&Ts.
