Clay Pipes

"@Jari T … Video is not available in SLOVAKIA … :frowning: " Ouch, you’ll never know about silly country restrictions and such…until one posts it on a international forum. No worries, though. Here’s the same clip on YouTube.

Thanks.

We have some more churchwardens in for those who are keen to try. I ordered the 9 inch and the 13 inch. The pictures do not do them justice. If you are interested, click here: ChurchwardensThanks, Dave

@Dave Just purchased the 7.5in clay pipe from you on ebay~ Turned out it was the last one~

I bought one of those clay pipes from Wilson’s when they had the opening sale (no sale on the pipe, but I knew that). Specifically, I got this one: http://sharrowmills-online.com/smoking-accessories/clay-pipes/no-303-7-1-2-red-tip-individually-boxed-single.html It is actually quite nicely made, and very well packaged to avoid damage. I haven’t used it yet, as I don’t have a pipe tobacco I want to try in it right now. I will say that the pipe bowl is a LOT smaller than I expected. It appears smaller than any of the briar pipes I have. Well, more specifically it is much narrower than my “regular” pipes. Still, for the price, it is worth adding to the collection, and I look forward to trying it when I score some decent baccy.

With how hot clay bowls get you do not want a bigger bowl then that. However once it’s cool you can lite it up again. Or at least I have many times.

Clay pipes make a great smoke but one drop and they are dead, at least for the churchwarden types wich give the best smoke in my book. For a real 18th Century smoking experience smoke some black twist in your church warden and drink either Madeira wine or strong ale with it. You then need to have rump steak cooked in the fantastic and difficult to get hold of Harvey’s sauce. The perfect breakfast…(I live hard)

That sounds great. Yeah clay pipes are awesome. Though one drop well one right drop. I had one that feel on concrete was fine for many months after that. I tosed another one on a folded towel and it crumbled apart. Though they are great pipes just very not durable.

@itsuke: thanks. I will check re ebay. we don’t usually list our full stock so I may have to relist it. Thanks for the heads up. Dave

I have a clay pipe from http://www.pipeshoppe.com/ and it is quite nice (Dutch Gouda/Pirate style). It’s the only clay pipe I’ve ever used so I have no comparison, but it seems sturdy. I have no issues running a pipe cleaner through it, even though the pamphlet they sent with it warned about breakage from pipe cleaners. Makes tobaccos taste pretty darn good!
