Are you prepared for 'Snuffageddon'?

Yeah, I agree and see what you guys are saying… is “corruption” the best term to use here? It’d be nice if things wouldn’t be going in the wrong direction. (is that too political? pardon me if so…)

The problem here is the EU is trying to ban oral tobacco. The downside is to make it sound “fair” they have to talk about smokeless tobacco which catches nasal snuff in passing. Sort of like how they complain about cig smokers, but feel the need to lump in cigar and pipe smokers so it looks like they aren’t picking on just one form of smoking. Not just the politicians, but the anti tobacco forces as well.

@Mr_O Yes that would seem like the exact word to use here… @chris @n9inchnails I hope so too, but the tobacco control lobby is pretty aggressive. Former tobacco commissioner Dalli has admitted that his intention was to ban all smokeless tobacco as part of the new EU tobacco directive, effectively extending the snus ban to snuff and e-cigarettes. Now, he has been sacked for corruption but I take this as writing on the wall that some high placed people in the EU are moving against snuff. See here: http://velvetgloveironfist.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/more-dalli-and-snusgate.html (Mods, if you consider this post to political, by all means remove it. I just thought it would be of interest to members. It is not my intention to cause debates about the merits of the EU, just to list what is factually going on in policies that concern snuff.)

Political facts are ok to post, at least when it concerns tobacco issues. Just keep the opinions minimal and tempered.

Luckily in Montana we really don’t have to worry about flooding but this thread makes ya think. You never can be to safe when it comes to snuff. Looks like I might need to invest in a couple things to be sure. With Montana winters there is always the chance of pipes freezing and busting so it water tight containers are in my future. Oh and stocking up on ammo cuz if the world starts to end in December I need to be sure I can fight off the zombie hordes after my snuff supply. 8-X

In Montana you just have to worry about when Yellowstone erupts & wipes all surrounding states clean of vegetation. And the ash in the atmosphere blocks the sun causing another ice age which covers the northern states in glaciers again. I think I’ve got enough stock to supply a family of 10 with tobacco well into the 22nd century. And with tobacco now growing wild around the property & a lot of seed in storage, theres no cause for concern. With hunting, fishing & growing a garden, I’ve been living pretty self sufficient for a number of years now. So I’m ready.

I find tobacco free snuffs (Mohlens herbal and the white ones) to be reasonably good, so I would probably switch to those if ‘snuffageddon’ comes. (I won’t post any opinions on the EU and ‘all its works’, as I’d probably just get banned). ‘Pipageddon’ is a different matter. Honeyrose make a herbal mixture which is just about ok (it has a latakia type flavour to it) but the room note is vile. I’ve never found an acceptable herbal substitute for pipe tobacco, though I’m convinced there must be one.

@stogie: Yes :wink:

Hmmmm…Somehow @MrSnuff, I am not at all surprised!

After reading this thread I decided to place my Christmas order a little early!!

Good thinking @furious… 21st of December is just around the corner you know!

It’s been on my mind, I got no problem going thru withdrawals tho, I kinda like them.

On a laptop in your town We assembled some snuffer’s From all over the world To bring you this message From Snuff makers. All over the world It’s the real thing - Snuffagetsome. And they sang… I’d like to buy the world a snuffhouse And furnish it with snuff Sniff HDT and honey bee And D White Snafu Grunt. I’d like to teach the world to snuff In perfect harmony I’d like to buy the world some snuff And keep it company That’s the real thing. Snuffagetsome.

Sounds like shaman is already starting to show symptoms of withdrawal.

@Xander -Yea ,I have to snuff to Snuff villiage where Papa Snuff can snuff me up a snuff for my snuff

I’ve heard the EU smokeless tobacco directive has recently been ratified, but can’t seem to find any clear info on what it involves and if it includes snuff. Does anybody have a reliable link?

@AustinAllegro, the EU tobacco directive has NOT been ratified or even released yet. It is still being written, or at least being written to it’s final form. Don’t panic yet. :wink:

I have lots and lots of snuff in boxes lying around, every tin is in a vacuum bag and kept in a cool and dark place.

Yes …

@Stogie Y yes , Yes I am .

Well, it’s been a bit over 10 years since I started this thread. It seems to have wandered all over for awhile and then quietly went to sleep. I am soon taking a vacation to a place I like to visit in Mexico. I usually thrive on being able to soak in the sunshine while feeling the ocean breeze on my face while sipping on some excellent Raita with a lovely bit of snuff in the nose and an excellent cigar or pipe in my lips. I just found out that tobacco - yes tobacco use is now banned in all hotels, resorts, sidewalks, parks and beaches. This apparently makes it the most repressive tobacco law in the WORLD. A thing they are openly proud of.

I know, yes, I can still get by with my snuff as I have no idea how they would regulate it. The wind, sun and sound of the waves will be magical. The Raita warming. The food satisfying. The whole business very relaxing. BUT I will dearly miss my cigars and pipes. (Alligator tears here).

So, I am forced to state again. In the case of a snuff apocalypse, are You ready?

I am. By my estimation I currently have about 24# of snuff, just under 2,500 cigars, 159 tins plus 24# loose pipe tobacco as well as dukka, hooka etc. Etc.

There are some wonderful selections from a number of reputable, creative people, sold by awesome folks… For now. But the number of people creating, manufacturing and selling our particular vice is dwindling. The variety is shrinking and the regulations, taxes and shipping costs spiraling upward.

I am not trying to stimulate trolls or nut jobs. There is/can be a light side to this (see some of the replies from 10 years ago), but there is also the somewhat darker side represented by the new law in Mexico. Who knows what will happen. I tend to choose the light side, perhaps it’s due to my rose colored glasses.

I am prepared, are you?
