well i got my 2 pots of abraxas today bloody hell this is a great snuff just can’t put it down as it’s so good. a bit like a schmalzler in it’s grind and moisture levels and just as easy to take but the flavour is just wonderful. thanks dave aka mr snuff
nine times as good? That isn’t how price diffrences work. Basicaly each unit of price increase gives less return. Example 300 dollar guitar is garbage. A six hundred dollar guitar is good a 900 hundred is better then the 6 but not as much so as the 6 is better then the 3. By the time you get up to 2700 dollar the improvement from a few steps back is going to be minimal and only of interest to someone who is very particular. Though I can’t afford that snuff so. However it’s pretty cheap for a luxury item so considering that not so bad. Compare it to a cigar and not so bad for something to extra special enjoy.
I just ordered 2. Can’t wait till it gets here !!!
Abraxas has sold out. Unbelievable response. I have asked for more, but it looks like it will be another week or more because the snuff miller will not be rushed. The maturation takes two months or so and he won’t release it till he is happy with it. “Premium is premium, Dave, and the maturation process is what it is” So there we have it. I will post here when more arrives. The good news is that 75% of the first batch went to snuffhouse members, so at least we will get good feedback. Dave
Crap, and payday was tomorrow… I guess I’ll have to wait until next time to sample this one.
I missed it too, bugger! However, I’d like to continue speculating over who the producer might be. There was a member here - who’s name currently escapes me - who talking about producing his own tobacco products / starting a business a while ago. Ringing any bells with anyone? Edit - I’m also sure whoever I’m thinking of had something to do with dissolvables. Some hunting around suggests it could be @Whalen, perhaps? You sure seem to have a lot of expertise, and did state…“So I am giving this one a go. I spent months developing a plan for it, actually several, and I have the fermentation batch of 250g started, this one to be aged and scented.”… in May, which fits very nicely into the 2 month maturation period Dave mentions above (http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/comment/164460#Comment\_164460)! There’s also an interesting post in “What’s in your nose?” from June (http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/comment/167209#Comment\_167209), anyone detecting any Scotch or Honey in their Abraxas? Dave does mention the taste of “expensive liquor” in his review in this thread. The way samples have been distributed also suggests it’s a well established member of this forum, who’s traded with others here in the past (http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/comment/171338#Comment\_171338). Then again, I might be barking up the wrong tree completely.
… still, @Spam, wrong tree or not, your deductive reasoning, investigative prowess, and puzzle work is Holmes-worthy indeed… *grin*
@Spam I think that member was Stitch, who hasn’t posted in a while. It has to be somebody off here, come on you elusive little bugger send me a PM I promise I won’t say a word. Stefan
It’s not me, though I have made a few of my own. Not enough to sell.
@Walrus1985, that’s it! Not sure what made me think it could be him, I just had a little inkling because of what I remembered of the guy. But what I’ve found from Whalen’s posts are interesting… Though I wouldn’t put money on it being him!
It was not me! I do not have the Cajones to charge that much for a snuff, I do not care how good it is! I am proud of some of my snuffs, but I would never consider joining that exclusive (stratospheric) club! I am sure someone has poured his/her heart and soul into making that snuff, a lot of makers do, Jaap, Roderick, come to mind. And some ingredients are horribly expensive, But I had Cafe Royal and learned my lesson, I am real curious about this one, no doubt, and could only dream of making one that good, but right now I am working on worlds strongest, not worlds most expensive! Besides, I give most of my snuff creations away! I only charge a little for those who want bulk. The one I am making now, I am giving the recipe away to a manufacturer, I am happy to do it! My goal is to have my own lifetime supply of damn good snuff, although I think I achieved that a while ago. Keep speculating fellow snuffers!
Damn it! Unless this is a dastardly bluff… best get that spy glass out again and see if I can unearth anything on stitch, whilst keeping a watchful eye on you, @Whalen! The fact I thought you were sourcing small amounts of, what seemed to be, difficult to acquire tobacco along with the personal cost of buying high quality spirits was part of what made me think it might be you - the cost of the final product might reflect that and the effort put in.
@Spam, is it really that important to know who made it? I mean the reviews have been good. Dave vouched for the maker, so we know it wasn’t sieved through used underwear, or dangerous. Sure it’s expensive, but I can attest to the quality of the ingredients, or at least they don’t taste cheap. All will be revealed in time. I can think of several good reasons for secrecy. Not the least of which is tons of people begging free samples.
I do have difficult (for me) to acquire tobacco, and I did my first batch with Lagavulin scotch, not gonna be able to afford another of those any time soon, but I am just too humble to think that anything I made would be that damn special! I do not approve of selling third world dope at first world prices either! I am but a humble hobbyist learning a closed craft, I am still on the wax on part! Capish? And yet, I do have a large pot of KIller snuff steeping in Exotic Brandy and Honey still - Getting real mellow now, Kicks like a dog gone mule too. Tell you what, someone save some crumbs for a trade! I would offer say ten grams of Extreme snuff for two of the Abraxas - To misquote Free Wheeling Franklin - snuff will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no snuff!
I bet it was snuffgrinder. He seems to know his stuff real well, and I’d love to try some of his creations. Investigate him @Spam, lol edited.
Stitch is my best guess too. He was working on it and had a track record of already presentable snuffs. Japp already makes world class snuff, otherwise it would have to be Nicky the nose. But the board tie in gets back to stitch. I am still working on smooth, and subtle went out the window long ago. I am working with a Rustica Hybrid, It is a hard core snuff, not an all day snuff by any means.
Wait, It is listed by Dave as an English snuff! Nicky the Nose then?
Wait, It is listed by Dave as an English snuff! Nicky the Nose then? I’m off the hook! I am a Texas boy! But I sure wonder where Stitch got off to, he was on the cusp of making a commercial snuff, then something about Hooka tobacco. @juxtaposer - You had some of the Extreme snuff, right? I remember sending some to HI.
http://tobaccocellar.com/abraxas http://www.amsterdam.info/coffeeshops/abraxas/ Proabably nothing but could be leads. That’s how investigation works. You look into things that may mean nothing or have no connection. Enjoy!
I half-wonder if Stitch is involved with Dark Horse snuff.
