Doh! Google is your friend and all that ! thank you. “the truffle of pipe tobacco” Looking forward to this treat
I’m Cajun, born in Jennings, Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana. Unfortunately moved to California as a toddler, but spent every summer there learning how to cook, eat and make whisky. My grand-père rolled his own smokes from Perique, except on Sundays when he smoked Picayune "tailor made’ cigarettes to go with his dozen or so Sazerac cocktails. Powerful stuff, Perique. I currently live an hours drive from the Green River Valley, in Kentucky, and have had my share of their faux, ersatz, artificial, fake, lame attempt at Perique. It’s okay, but it’s not even close to the real deal. I am a confirmed, card carrying VaPer fanatic, and my pipe tobacco cellar is loaded with nicely aging Perique blends. Greg Pease is the pipe tobacco peer of Sir Johnny and Sir Nigel. His Fillmore is, in my not humble opinion, the finest VaPer ever made. I’ve tried my hand at making snuff from Virginia, Burley and Perique and was a miserable failure.
I’m hoping its another toast. Pretty sure its the only type of snuff that gets me off 8-}
Maybe Johnny will look at adding a new toast/scotch snuff to the range in the future!!! But that said with Lundy Foot & Havana toast already out there is there much more you can add to that class of snuff??? If there is I’m sure Johnny or Nigel can think it up.
Lundy Foot and Havana Toast are both absolute best-in-class winners, in my favourite class of snuffs, pretty much. I’d be delighted to see @Abraxas have a go at a strong, natural toast, just to keep the conversation between the two great British artisan snuff makers going. This seems as good a place as any to formally retract a statement I made that Havana Toast and Lundy Foot are similar. I’m very glad to have some of both in my stock, there is quite a difference between them to appreciate.
FOJ is a toast also but not like any other of course! http://theartisansnuffsociety.com/sir-walter-scott-fine-border-snuff Certainly looking forward to these next few SWS. They do sound nosegasmic! Meanwhile I’m trying to learn a bit more about tobacco itself. There seem so many types and preparation styles that the opportuntiy of snuff variety for Toasts or whatever would seem to be very large. Good tobacco flavour is the best tobacco flavouring there is.
I’m scared this was just a one time thing. I want more. Right now I only use it once a day cause I am scared I will never get another one so it is my precious!
Actually I don’t think the Havana toast was initially intended to be a commercial snuff, funny how these things turn out though!
That’s a bit of a bombshell!!! It’s pretty much instantly one of my favourites and seems now that it might never have been?
If these dire straits continue I’m going to have to resort to toasting a few Cohiba Esplendidos and grinding with some of the Nicaraguan Habano Ligero I’ve got hanging in my office closet. Some East Carolina Bright and some of Roderick’s Rustica should make a mediocre sniff while anxiously awaiting Sir Johnny’s magnificent Havana Toast. This drought of his masterpiece toast will make me appreciate it even more. I hope he’ll put it up in bulk.
I was in the supermarket today and explaining about lovely Havana Toast to the pretty young maiden at the checkout and she sort of went “euweee, that’s like from the stone age”. I think I really impressed her, not! Made me laugh anyhow.
Snuff makes me think often about smoking. Why did we start taking inferior tobacco and, rolling it with other crap? Snuff seems by far superior to cigarettes. I just wish I had not smoked a cigarette in my life and, found snuff first.
OK - so I see that this Havana Toast is available as of now ( 8/23/2014 11:43 est ) at Mr. Snuff . I thought reading through many different posts that it was all gone … so … my question is … To order it, or not to order it? ( Let the madness begin … )
If you don’t order it you’ll miss out on one of the nicest snuffs available. Just saying…

I am just hesitant as I currently have 2 orders placed that I have yet to receive, hahaha… ( I’m in NC, USA ) . But given that after starting just 2 weeks ago the war supply I have laid in, and compound that with the rave reviews here … I think i may have to get some coming. ( I need to find a level ground and do a large order - these small orders = murder on multiple shipping costs in so close proximity )
