This cigar snuff is just a few days’ away from release. I blended a higher percentage of Volado and Seco leaf than the Ligero to tame it down a bit. It’s fairly mild, with a nice back note of cedar and leather, toasted filler leaf up front and brandy scent fleeting in and around. It is a little on the dry/fine side so may appeal to toast lovers. It’s not an “in your face” snuff bomb, but more of a gentle, long lasting toasty cigar scent. Decent, but not over the top nicotine hit. Could be named “Pure Dominican Toast” and probably should be. This is one that will age quite well. I’m packing in amber glass jars; one, two and four fluid ounce volumes. As soon as my new gram scale arrives I’ll update on weights and pricing. Looks like January 5-7 for release. UPDATE: I’m looking at a way to line each jar with cedar “paper”. I’ll keep you posted.
Keep it up @chefdaniel! You’re a one man band churning out hit after hit and I’m sure this one will be no different; high quality snuff that’s become synonymous with the entire Old Mill line. I can’t wait to try the new release.
Looking forward to this!!
Ready. Jars are lined with cedar.
@chefdaniel can’t wait for this one!
@jmahes Ready to go. Shoot me what you need and it’s outahere. Cheers
Can’t wait!
Sounds great. Any pics of these cedar lined jars? Another thought, why don’t snuff makers show pictures of the actual snuff for users to get an idea of the color and grind?
Just placed my first OM order and the Puro was top of the list. Can’t wait and thanks @chefdaniel, you’re a gent!
@CaptShipwreck Your wish is my command. This is the small bottle.

Ya see, a picture is worth a thousand words. That there is a seller! You say it is limited edition. Does that mean it is limited in quantity, or a one off blend, or both? I have to admit my fears of one off and done blends, that I may miss them like a woman, never to be seen again if I fall in love.
@CaptShipwreck I hate to do this, but I have to tell you the chances of getting the four primings of filler leaf from one farm more than once in a life time are slim and none. I got lucky getting this leaf, and paid a fortune for it. If the planets ever align favorably in the future I’ll certainly jump on the opportunity, but I’m not holding my breath. So, yes limited in quantity; about 500 grams and yes, a one off. The good news is the cedar lining will help this age with style and grace. A woman is only a woman but a cigar is a smoke. Or something like that, but Kipling didn’t strike me as a snuffer. The good news: I have some of the ligero and seco left over from blending. That is stored in toasted cedar casket. I also have some Honduran and Nicaraguan viso, some Brazilian Mata Fina volado (rare) and some San Andrés Valley (Mexico) wrapper that I’m going to blend with some toasted burley for Robusto , a toasted snuff with latent cigar tendencies. Perfecto will use some of that leaf collection, a bit of dark fired Kentucky and some stoved red Virginia for a sweeter toasted cigar snuff.
Ah well, won’t be the first time I will have loved and losses! I like these cigar snuff ideas!
I look forward to ordering any one of you cigar snuffs as soon as I start making some money in the new year…I am sure they are fantastic, like all the other OM snuffs I have stashed in my freezer for only occasional, late-night fun. Gotta make 'em last as long as I can, 'tho I pinched all the Fire and Ice and Limoncello in an uncontrolled snuff fiend-frenzy the other night( was it New Year’s eve? can’t remember)
Well… what can I say? It was love at first take with this snuff. I’ll be placing another order for at least one 60g jar before this snuff is gone. It’s a tobacco forward snuff (and yes you can smell Cuba) with an incredibly well infused brandy scent atop fresh cigar leaf with cedar and leather undertones. I’ve never had a snuff like it, but thought… ‘I wish this is what SWS Havana Toast was like’. The grind and moisture remind me of many Toque snuffs; as it is fine, light, fluffy, and easy to take. This snuff has a nice buttery burn in the nose with a nicotine hit that’s on the higher side of medium and is just right… I mean this is a damn near perfect snuff. Puro Dominicana is a home run. Nice job and thank you @chefdaniel for another brilliant snuff.
@Jim Thanks for the tempting review Jim! I’m sitting here salivating already wishing I’d paid the extra for super fast shipping
Just received a jar today. Very nice!
I also received my jar today. A solid 5/5 from me. I had the same thought as @Jim with the ‘I wish this is what SWS Havana Toast was like’. You continue to set the bar for snuff makers, current and future alike.
Hey, Havana and Dominica–I love you both, just in different ways.

They are both great snuffs and everyone should keep plenty of both on hand.
Just had my first snootful of Puro Dominicana today, and it is brilliant and unique. And that Spotted Dick – wow!
Gorgeous snuff
Wow! Just tried it. A great snuff. Im afraid this one will be missed like Spanish jewel when it is gone. Im happy I didn’t get the small. It will still be very hard to keep my fingers out of. I tried it still ice cold out of the mailbox so I still have some investigating to do, but its good. I understand the reference to toque grind, but its a much better silkier smooth grind. Easy to take, but quiet finely ground. I get a lot of great scents coming through, as with most Old Mill snuffs it is very complex and fun to hunt out different scents. You definitely get an old world Cuban tobacco farm scent and feeling. Like walking into a cigar store humidor, which is always a lovely aroma. Also a back note of cedar and leather. Here and there tiny bits of alcohol and brandy. I seem to pick up a little aniseed maybe? The scent actually reminds me a little bit of a good piece of peanut brittle, which is great. And peanut brittle might just be a great idea for another OM snuff! The cigar scents seem to be lasting the longest which is nice. A truly great snuff. Perfect for a good hike through a forest, or next to a fireplace while reading a novel from an expat. The Chef does it again!
@CaptShipwreck Chef Daniel certainly has!! I can’t stop snuffing this one. Big pinches are powerful but smaller ones are so enjoyable and scent-ful. This one is definitely in my top three…I will try to make it last as long as possible, mainly to see how it matures long term. Wonderful snuff!
Puro Dominicana is now officially on the endangered species list. I’ve got about 150 grams left. When it’s gone, it’s gone forever. :((
Hey, chef, if we all chip in and buy you a cement mixer instead of that puny tumbler you use, then we wouldn’t have this problem. Seriously, though, thank you for Puro Dominicana. It’s worth the withdrawal symptoms.
Appreciate the offer Mouse, but it’s not the size of the tumbler, it’s the availability to get leaf like that. It’s a once in a blue moon offer that I stumbled into while looking for Fuente filler leaf. This batch was hand primed from a single farm with all four primings well represented. Not likely to happen again. On the flip side, Perfecto will be close, but more international, using leaf from all the major regions, also individually primed. Stay tuned

Are you saying Perfecto will be a similar cigar snuff, but more readily available? That’s what I’m hoping for. Puro will truly be missed. It has quickly become my favorite go to snuff! We need a snuff like puro that’s available. Too good! Really well done. I want to save and cellar mine as I know it’s the only, but it’s so good I can’t stop sniffing it!
@CaptShipwreck Perfecto will be a much larger batch due to the availability of the leaf in the tobacco bill. It will be similar to Puro, but not identical; complexity from the variety of leaf (ligero, viso, seco & volado) and their origin (DR, Honduras, Cameroon, Brazil, Nicaragua), similar process: toasting, dressing, aging in cedar and leather, re-toasting, milling and a final toasting and sieving. It will also be packed in amber glass, cedar lined. Same price, just to cover packaging and additonal cost of the ingredients. Should be released in June. Puro Dominicana is gone.
:-S :((
Today i refilled a small snuff bottle with some Puro D and could really detect the cedar in it…this snuff has been packed in a large jar ( with cedar lining ) for a couple of months and just noticed it today ( i decant from this jar almost weekly )…interesting to see it start to change slightly as time starts to go by. Love this snuff!
Search for Puro? This is my favorite snuff of all time. For many reasons hard to come by. If anyone has any and is willing to sell or trade? Name a price. Thank you.
