Why do Americans want to pay extra for tracking?

Dave, You ever thought of adding a ups option? I know it costs more but some Americans may feel better with it… it’s fun to watch it bounce around thr globe and it is mighty quick. Snus from Sweden gets to me 2-3 business days it still boggles my mind how fast it gets here.

That question goes to Roderick as well

I’d just like to go on record volunteering my services as an international snuff courier. Have passport, will travel. Just cover my travel expenses and I’ll hand deliver snuff (or other things, I’m negotiable) right to your door. I’ll even carry a GPS device so can track me as I trek the globe to procure your desires.

Only if you need a partner Spyro. Then I’am behind your plan, if I’am the partner that is.

Of course Bob. After all, no scheme is complete until you’ve selected a cut-out man.

 alright. We’ll work out the details after the snuff binge.

I don’t really see the need for UPS, as yes, it’s a bit faster. But, it’s also way more likely to get flagged in customs, with them footing the customs bill and then saying, “Hey, before you can have your package, you owe us $50 in customs charges and brokerage fees.” I’d rather just wait.

I’m a fan of tracking. I always pay extra for recorded delivery when I post eBay items. If nothing else, it gives you inarguable proof of postage.

@EricHill78: we are looking at UPS as an option but it will likely be October before we have a chance to implement it.

I ordered a snuff box from Mr. Snuff and it took a few extra days to get to me. It was send USPS and I was able to track it. By observing the roundabout route the package took to get from eastern New York to western New York, I was able to deduce that the main shipping routes had changed due to Hurricane Irene. Many of us Yanks mistakenly believe that “right to know” and “need to know” are synonymous.

It’s the reason we won in the Revolutionary War.

It’s not necessarily due to Irene. I’ve seen some screwy looking shipping routes on packages delivered to me that only make sense in context of all the other pieces of mail travelling with it. While it might bounce your package around the system a couple extra days, overall it saves USPS from making more trips, using more gas, and digging themselves further into debt.

glad someone understands a little bit of postal logistics.
