I have some bad news: my huge shipment of snuff from Dholakia has been siezed by UK customs. It will be destroyed. All due to some minor discrepancy between the export documents and the invoice. After MONTHS of effort, and many thousands of dollars in fees, this is what it has come to. It all started with an anti-tobacco zealot who thinks all tobacco is evil. I will of course get another shipment sent as soon as possible. We can’t be without our beloved White and FUBAR. Dave
HMRC sure like making life hard for people huh. Destroying it seems a little over the top, I hope you’ve spoken to a lawyer. If it were me, I’d have involved the media too.
I’m guessing you’re new to this game doctorbeat, but as far as the media is concerned there are no upstanding citizens involved in the sale of tobacco. Only evil, vile people who hate children and health. It sucks that this happened, but I doubt the media would care or give much of a favourable angle. Sounds like something on Dholakia’s end, though. Perhaps there’s a chance you could get reimbursed if it’s their error.
That sucks on ice! - I have to redact myself in making comments that may sound political - I have to sympathize though, because it’s not just FUBAR and White. Heck, Dholakia makes so many other brands too. I’ll be hoping for the best in the mean time…
Noooooooo…this is terrible news. Hopefully the next shipment will be hassle free and I can still have a Dholakia White Christmas.
I guess one day the snuff community will have to get political in order to keep their rights and soften their public image. And since Snuffhouse.org gathers most of the world wide web snuff users, it will certainly have a role to play. Since then, i’ll keep my mouth shut, even though i might bite my tongue in the process…
I don’t think the media views snuff as badly as other forms of tobacco. When the smoking ban happened, I read a few small newspaper articles about people turning to snuff as a substitute, and they were all light hearted. I think the general view is that snuff taking is an eccentricity partaken by old men. Compare the media coverage of ‘binge drinking’ to how they might write an article about a real ale tasting event.
My fear is that snuff will get swallowed as just another tobacco product in the global anti-tobacco campaign around the world that is intended to aim the cigarette users. If it does, that would be because of ignorance from the general public and by the authorities. But I think it’s on our shoulders to educate them before we end up as collateral victims.
@KebAMP explained it quite nicely, doctorbeat. Dip and chew are relatively safe compared to cigarettes, but all get lumped under the umbrella of tobacco by anti-tobacco zealots. I’ve got a pretty strong feeling that snuff won’t be spared their irrational wrath either, once they become aware of it.
ah man I thought I was going to be able to order some white, black and grunt, shuckiedurns edm
does this mean my big jar of grunt has gone up in value?
This is very bad news indeed Any expectation for the new shipment? I mean broadly of course… more like 1-3 months, or 6-9? I have to plan my supply chain carefully. I guess this means I will be trying 6photo cheetah after all!
I would do anything for a grunt…
This is one of the most depressing threads in quite some time! Dave, my condolences! I will go visit my Grunt and try not to smile much! There is good TAD and bad TAD!
@brandasaur pm me your address and I may be persuaded to send you some.
Completely agree Whalen…this is a very sad thread. I am down to about 5g of Grunt! I was waiting to place an order whenever Grunt came in…I even monitored Mr Snuff’s website, just in case I missed the tweet saying it had arrived. On a positive note, At least Grunt is not being discontinued…just further delayed.
@Brandasaur- I had a 50g tub confiscated by Canadian customs! The experiance was troubling! I avoid sending any more snuff there.
I have some good news. Namrata has kindly stepped up to the plate and offered to replace the snuff if I pay the freight etc. That definitely helps. I am now officially over this set back and looking forward to the next shipment! Dave PS: thanks for your support.
great news
