Hi everyone, greetings from China! newbie here. I wonder if any one of you has tried Tibetan snuff, kinda grey powder, very fine and extremely strong. Don’t know the availability in the States or in Europe. But actually people can get that quite easily and cheaply in China, about RMB 5 ( 60 cents in Euro) per 50 gram. Here is my recommendation for people who has chance to try that: You could mix the snuff with same volume of pure lavender powder and keep it for, say, a week. Then the thing becomes terrific for flower scent lovers, while keeping its strength and nic hit, though I don’t have any idea on its TSNA content. Any thoughts about that?
TSNA content would depend on the amount & type of tobacco and ashes used. A snuff made with N. rustica and juniper incense ash would be far higher in nitrosamines than one made with N. tabacum and well calcined ephedra ash.
Sounds like that pure snuff might have had some lime or soda added to it. If it had sort of a fishy taste, it was undoubtedly N. rustica. Some of the ashes used in Tibet and Mongolia are burned several times and are probably nearly pure potassium carbonate and a trace of other mineral salts.
Sounds like something mainly used for teeth.
@choligeetu: very interesting to hear about Tibet snuff. How do you take it ?oral or through nose? A lot of snuff from India is exported to Tibet.
The nose. I’ve seen pictures. It’s extremely fine and apperantly one of the marks of good snuff is that you can breath a cloud of snuff out of your mouth after sniffing it into the nose.
Thank you all! Really enjoy the atmosphere of discussion here! @snuffgrinder: Thanks very much for the info! Actually I always wonder if we really need to care about nitrosamines in SMT, coz we all know that they’re mainly from the combustion, or fermentation process. Does that mean huge amount of nitrosamines can also be found in tail gas, black tea and food such as BBQ stuff or bacon? Probably we absorb much more nitrosamines anywhere, anytime. Hence, the efficiency of our nose should be much less than oral intake. What do you think about this? @Vikas: Not sure, but I use it through nose. It’s quite the same as kinda Indian snuff. I can show you the link containing the package photo, though in Chinese http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=8771066653
I’d always be interested in trying some, should it become available online.
@choligeetu: it is not Tibet snuff, this is in fact Indian snuff.have you tried our 6photo Cheeta snuff,It is similar to this one.
I thought that was Hindi on the package.
@Vikas: Exactly. I mean the Tibet snuff in my nose now seems the same as this one.
@choligeetu wish I was in China so I could order some of that! It looks to be about 50 grams for $2 USD!
@choligeetu can you please give me the contact info in english of the website link you posted
@Vikas: When opening the site, you’ll see a yellow button with a blue cartoon in the first row of the site. Click it and you are able to chat with the salesperson (the dialog box turns to grey when he/she is not available at the moment.) But I’m not sure if they understand English…
Thanks choligeetu but it seems I can’t get through
@Vikas: Don’t worry. I found their contact information. The company locates in Xining City, Qinghai Province. You may try to call +86-971-81 71 637 to talk to Mr. Zhu (pronounce it like Ju–ly.) But whether they have service in English is still not clear.
So nice of you choligeetu to take so much trouble for me.
There is a Tibetan snuff on eBay. But it consists, among others, of "cow essence, a substance obtained from gallstones in cattle and aconite. " I was about to buy it but then I read that. If somebody would like to have it: http://www.ebay.pl/itm/Tibet-Schnupftabak-snuff-tobacco-25-g-/321301404403
