Speaking as a heavy ex-cocaine addict (the wonders of investment banking where it’s used like coffee), no snuff will be a replacement for the white powder. He needs to deal with that addiction first by seeking professional help. It took me well over 5 years to get completely clean of the stuff and even now, 14 years on, if someone were to offer me a line, I know I would not be able to refuse. It is incredibly psychologically addictive. The only way I could beat the addiction was to literally break ALL contacts with all my friends and move to a new country which is exactly what I did!!! Now I only don’t use cocaine because I don’t know anyone who does and I have just enough will power to not go looking for it. Snuff is now and only now a very nice substitute but to a currently using coke addict, snuff would be totally useless. Hope that helps and good luck to your friend.

Going to give snuff a try first. You’re right its completely psychological. I get more excited for the snort than the effects of the drug itself.

You mean your “friend” gets more excited …

Just let him try what you are snuffing for a week or two, then he will decided if he likes it or not. Simple.
I have used harder drugs and enjoyed them but never got into all the paraphernalia except when I was smoking quite a bit of weed. So I see where he “your friend” is coming from since I had a love of the multitude devices that came with the habit, like grinders, different pipes, rollers, novelty papers, ect…And the enjoyment of the devices in a way can be as enjoyable as the drug itself, which is part of why I love snuff and tobacco pipes so much. So give the guy a break snuffhouse, at least he is trying. As for the topic at hand, it has been covered pretty much. Toasts, scotches, and white indians would probably be a good choice for “your friend.”…also I am reminded of how on some drug forums they use “SWIM”, Someone Who Isn’t Me.
I think SWIM is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard… Simply because it can stand for " someone who is me " and " someone who isn’t me " lol
@lunecat absolutely destroyed that guy. Gotta love it when he turns the ice on. :))
Snuff is absolutely not recommended for use by a recovering cocaine snorter. However at some point he may be interested in the art of snuff taking.
The last thing a hard drug user should do is seek another habit that is similar in environmental stimuli Completely disengage from your habit to rewire your brain. If you prefer to sniff things maybe try smoking some bud instead. If that’s not your thing try pipe tobacco. We need the brain to rewire, this doesn’t just have to do with the chemical side but just as much the environmental side as well. Just my 1 cent

I’m not too sure about that. Lots have quit smoking cigarettes by vaping.
I successfully quit smoking via vaping. It was hard at first, because vaping made me want to smoke even more. And I did relapse, several times. Finally I just put it in the forefront of my mind that I needed to quit smoking. And I did. Cut to a few months later, discovered snuff. Now I almost exclusively use snuff. I use an ecig for convenience when I drive mostly.

Well most E cig users that switched still use nicotine Cigs to e cigs aren’t comparable to cocaine to snuff. When were using E cigs we are still using nicotine ( most of us ) There’s no " safe " or refined version of cocain you can sniff and simulating the experience with tobacco is just asking for a relapse, , if you change the environmental stimuli it helps ease the urges and this is a common rule. This is why cig smokers tend to say it gets easier the farther away they get from smoking ( even if they continue using tobacco, snuff, snus, e cig etc ) there’s also a lot more to E cigs and the diversity of them. We have to remember the dangerous phycological affects of cocaine. We smoke a cig and relapse big whoop, relapsing on cocaine is more than a " whoops " moment lol Just an opinion

Fair points, and I will admit that when I quit smoking (with snus) I really had a hard time breaking the “habit” part of smoking, the hand-to-mouth stuff. I could have presented a better comparison, for example smokers quitting cold turkey. I think you’ll find in many cases those who quit smoking cold turkey are doing something to satisfy that habit aspect like chewing toothpicks, gum, carrot sticks, pencils, etc. to help them through the hell of withdrawals. It’s not too far of a stretch to imagine a cocaine addict satisfying the habit, or ritual aspect with a similar activity such as snuff taking. I am by no means treating cocaine addiction lightly, I definitely know how addictive it can be. I can see snuff helping some, for others it may be a trigger to relapse.

Yeah I see your point. It could always be a stepping stone in either direction when you put it that way. One example is My own grand mother would even chew on toothpicks etc and even keep the ash tray out too ( she also got scared to stop from her cancer ) but it Was weird with the ashtray to me. That simulation would make me want to smoke badly Personally I couldn’t ever quit weed or cigs. Without getting into too much detail I went a few days recently without cigs felt great then went back to them. When I quit smoking weed I went about 39 days and " relapsed " on that too. For me both " addictions " be it physiological or physical they fuel one another. I could also be more prone to addiction. I’ve been smoking both for around 7 years if I ever used anything else let alone cocaine I would probably kill myself. At this point I want to give up one or the other and obviously I’m choosing to get rid of the one that can give me lung cancer. However everytime I personally smoke a vape I want a cig, or I smoke a cig I want a bowl. I smoke a bowl I want a cig etc and so on and because it’s impossible to give them all up I’m in a cycle I’m hoping the proper vaping liquid and snuff combination can fix.
This is a very interesting thread… And right up my alley. My opinion is that snuff would only be a good substitute if he truly liked it, AND was ready to quit cocaine. BUT if it was a trigger, it’d be a terrible idea. Every addict has what works for them in terms of recovery… Many of my friends it was jail, some died, but many worked 12 step programs and went to impatient/outpatient as aftercare without those consequences. I tried 12 step but I didn’t see eye to eye with the groups in my area. I’ve been using drugs since 13, and drinking since before I could see over the counter. My drugs of choice were a steady baseline of junk, MDMA, LSD every chance I got, and using coke. Anything I got I would shoot, with the exception of when I felt like cooking and smoking my coke. Why I say this all though, apologies for the drug-a-log, is because that ritual and chase of being well, the chase of artificial love in a life I didn’t allow to be full of the real thing. It took getting sick and tired of it, staying away from the influences wether people or places, literally changing everything one by one to change. Nothing feels right at first, but it gets easier. I couldn’t recommend a particular energy snuff, for this addict typing, I personally don’t want to even see Goody’s headache powder again. I’d recommend finding some network of support, staying surrounded by those who hold you accountable (my PO was a huge factor in I believe saving my life), and asking for help. Huge independence comes when learning to depend, and help, others. Most importantly, what you think you should do, do the opposite!!! If you enjoy snuff, use it. If you’re looking to stop a cocaine habit just by using snuff, I personally see that as addictive thinking. Long winded for sure, my apologies folks, I’m passionate of this as it hit myself and family pretty damn hard. Always open to talk to any “friend,” member, or stranger who’s struggling with this, or past traumas, and are looking to have a better life. I’m no guru, but I’ve stayed clean.

Well, SWIM has tried cocaine once and considered it the most worthless thing to have ever been obtained from botanical research. It just simple created a sense of unease for him that culminated in a nice and wonderful (yet, thankfully, not strong) anxiety attack (not unlike drinking twelve coffee cups at once, which isn’t my… err, cup of tea [man that was awful]). However, for some uncanny reason, some of his friends considered it was the biggest thing since powdered milk, which prompted this fella to question “Why?”. The reason, I believe, it’s that my friend related the whole blade and snorter paraphernalia with the shady world of mobsters, loan sharks, capitalists and 40 years old which liked to behave as children and like to turn violent at the very first opportunity they’ve got. My friend’s acquaintances, however, related cocaine snorting to a sort of high class act, a good investment for one’s money, something that can help you when you’re wasted and want to keep on partying and that, above all, is good banned fun. So I think that, while the paraphernalia and subculture surrounding cocaine is not what gets you addicted, it’s what makes you try again and again in the beginning and what makes stopping a more difficult thing. (Specially because it makes the act much more pleasurable and pleasure and addiction are closely related). My advice is a simple one: tell your friend to break with the conception that cocaine is a nice and funny drug: if he has realized that he extracts most of the pleasure from the subculture surrounding its consumption and the initial feel good rush, then he’s surely on his way to kicking it. There are others (including telling jokes with good friends, conscious and sober sex and good old weed; some say meditation) which have effects that are much more noticeable and which can be more pleasurable by way of providing insight over one’s body and mind. They’re also cheaper. Realizing that your nose can’t be enjoying it would surely help, as the pleasure of following your own reasonable opinions instead of succumbing to peer pressure and your own prejudices. And of course, tell him that seeking professional help is nothing embarrassing and that it can also help, much more than any kind of home made substitution therapy. I wish him the best of luck! May he live his life to the fullest and kick the parasites where they should be kicked! Edit: Oops, didn’t realized this was a zombie thread… anyway, I hope he reads this awfully long Spanglish block of text and still wish him… his friend, a lot of luck!
Trying something once and not enjoying it (possibly because it was cut with cheaper stimulants which is very common with cocaine or because you have a propensity to panic attacks/anxiety), doesn’t qualify you to say it’s the subculture and not the drug which causes the addiction. Cocaine quality varies hugely, but if your supplier offers a quality product, I assure you the high is very enjoyable. It’s an incredibly moreish drug. Another reason it is popular with the wealthy is that, if used in moderation, the come-down isn’t too bad and it’s not physically addicting so you don’t suffer awful withdrawal pains when you don’t use it. None of these ‘plus points’ should encourage anyone to use it though. The cons outweigh the pros.
@SnuffySnuff Things can be incredibly subjective, IMHO. My friend has confirmed to me that it wasn’t just one time, nor with only one dealer. And his friends assured him some of the coke he tried was amongst the best. To my friend, it wasn’t enjoyable because he’s an already zippy guy and the rush was messy and insight-lacking (he hasn’t had the same problems with, say, MDMA, because such drugs helped him reach nice states he wouldn’t have reached when sober). By the way, I have never said it was the subculture what causes the addiction (that would seem to contravene some basics of scientific induction), I just said it played a substantial role (specially when first getting hooked and when trying to escape).
It was this “if he has realized that he extracts most of the pleasure from the subculture surrounding its consumption” that I was disagreeing with. Whilst it is true to some degree, he extracts most of the pleasure from the drug, not the subculture. The rest of your points, I agree with.
