Seeking advice for uber-moist "chunky" snuffs...

OHHH. I’m supposed to be doing that? I’ve been taking several small pinches and snuffing it up, alternating nostrils. Never thought I’d need to pinch my nostrils. Perhaps I should try that. Do you only do it with moist snuffs?

i do it whenever a snuff is prone to falling out. i tend to do it anyway actually… just adheres it to the nostrils more.

@Nietzsche_Keen Oral use of Scotch snuffs is a common and old tradition in the US. Especially the south. In fact I would say it is much more common than nasal use.

Yep, I’m in south Mississippi. People think I’m stupid for snuffing “dip” up my nose, lol.

So you’re pinching your nostrils together for a second then releasing or pinching and holding them closed?

So for example copenhagen snuff would you snuff it as it is or dry it and use it that way because I have always thought that if dip was ever around long enough to go dry then could you grind it up and snuff it just seems better than waisting good dip . Obviously not wintergreen I think that might hurt like hell

I think transferring the pinch to the back of the hand or thumbnail helps somewhat because in the process you can grind up the massive snuff-clods. Really though even when you’re able to get it all up there nicely it’s still messy just because you have big chunks of tobacco in your nose. Excellent as they are Rappees are not for public consumption in my book… @inluvwithtobacco you can’t sniff copenhagen snuff. Copenhagen is really originally a snus-recipe; it was always intended for oral use. It’d burn something terrible what with the very high salt levels and it doesn’t smell nearly as good as it tastes. With scotches like everyone says most people who use it (or rather most people who remember their great-grandmothers doing it) dip it, but I have known a couple of people who witnessed it being sniffed as well.

Fair play mate I just wondered because the taste is great and hoped it would transfere up the nose but did not think about salt levels . I can’t ever’say that a can of dip is ever around long enough to dry up for me if I’m honest

I tasted a bit of banana snuff that before thinking it might be good. It was nasty. I’m sure dip would be the same way up the nose. Just because it smells good, doesn’t mean it tastes good and vice versa.

An article concerning use of snuff for dipping. http://www.uttyler.edu/vbetts/snuff.htm

So basically I guess if it works for you then go for it I might save a couple of pinches of copenhagen natural and grind it up and have a go will report back if it makes my eyes bleed or something lol

Maybe someone can invent the snuff suppository, since we apparently aren’t happy with snuffing snuff and dipping dip anymore. I think a cigar would be more suitable for those purposes though.

Haha ok point made !

@Nietzsche_Keen Ancient history

What’s that; both the sculpture and the thing. I’m not sure if that is a happy face or just an awkward grimace. Edit: Wow, I looked them up and they really do exist. I guess people used to have a device that they used to blow smoke into people for medical purposes. Maybe that is what that thing is that the person is holding?

@Nietzsche_Keen great video there, thanks for sharing! I had heard about the Snuff World Championship somewhere on this forum but never looked it up on YouTube. I’m kind of surprised they have a video on it, although it’s short.

Hey, not sure on either count. Just an image I found that fit the conversation. Origin: http://www.strangehistory.net/2013/05/31/vision-quest-2-the-rainbow-enema/

That’s where the phrase came from (“blowing smoke up your …”). Weird what people thought was good and good for you. Radium was used for all manner of therapeutic uses (“That tingling feeling means it’s working!”) after Mme. Curie discovered it. That’s why I subscribe to evidence-based medicine so much. However, I’m glad I found this thread. I was wondering about the clumping in my Black Rappee. It’s so inconvenient. What makes it more inconvenient is that it makes me sneeze something fierce about 3-5 minutes after taking. But I can’t stop because I love the subtle nose it imparts. It has a wonderful flavor.

Black rappe-I put a box cars worth in my palm and squish it together like a prilla of snus. Then I use my thumb to quickly stuff it up my nostril and immediately restrict my nose with the side of my finger and thumb. Then a slight snort while continuing to hold. I hold that until it really gets burning and then reach for the handkerchief because the sneeze and blow is about to happen. And that’s how I do it.
