Pocket knives

I carry a Wenger Swiss Army Knife (Tradesman model.) Wengers have a much better spring mechanism for scissors and pliers than Victorinox. I used to get Victorinox Swiss Army knives, but the spring always broke on me. The spring is the Achilles heel of Victorinox knives. On Wengers, it’s the design of the tweezers; they have a tendency to slip down into the handle and become inaccessable. Wenger and Victorinox have both had contracts with the Swiss Army. By mutual agreement, Wenger has advertised as the Genuine Swiss Army Knife and Victorinox used the slogan, the Original Swiss Army Knife.

haven’t had a pocket knife in a long time. Used to carry one when I was a boy scout. Don’t even know if I have the old thing sitting around somewhere.

A Gentleman always carries a pocket knife for Various Uses. Me, I bought a traditional-style pcoket knife, a Lone Wolf Crosscurrent Stag (antler on the handle) This: http://www.bladehq.com/item--Lone-Wolf-Crosscurrent-Stag-Pocket--11194 I like it a lot, although it’s almost a little big.

Got my Vict. Swiss Army SD in the mail and I had forgotten that the other Vict. Swiss Army knife that I got had a lot of oil in the hinges, I guess they come from the factory like that because that one, a Huntsman, and this new one the Classic SD both have so much oil coming from the hinges that it runs down the tools so I won’t be using the flat-head screwdriver for snuff as I had planned. Don’t want the oil getting into my snuff tins or my nose. Will just have to make due with a pipe tool for now. Interesting about the Case knives. Now that I know they are hit and miss I probably won’t order one online, I’ll go to a local store if I decide to buy one. Anyone have any experience with the brand “M-Tech”? They are ridiculously affordable and come in some very nice looking designs. The one’s I’ve seen on Ebay and Amazon are all Lockblades or Fixed Blades but I think they may be alright. Someone I know told me they saw some at our local fleamarket and when held in the hand seem sturdy and well built. @number_seven looks like a nice one.

I have had a couple disassemble in my pocket because the screws worked loose. If you get a modern-type folder I would recommend you put some thread-lock on all the little screws to prevent that. For full disclosure, I was bouncing around in a Komatsu 475A quite “enthusiastically” when mine rattled apart.

I am one of the few people in the UK “allowed” to carry a knife as not only am I the MD of Toque, I am also a Registered Firearms Dealer and collector of antique shotguns. I carry a Winchester knife with lots of tools for working on vintage/hammer shotguns. Even so if I were to go into town and was stopped carrying a knife I would probably lose my dealers license. The law in the UK is simple; the knife must have a legal purpose. I heard a story about a chef in London getting into trouble for carrying their kitchen knifes on the tube when they were going to work at a food exhibition.

Roderick seems to be a Jack of all trades. He makes some wonderful snuff first and foremost. Can’t cram enough Spanish Gem and Quit into my nose

As far as an inexpensive knife goes, MTech can’t be beat IMO. I have had several over the years. Razor sharp outta the box.

Most days i have a SOG 15" Tanto Machete and a SOG Fasthawk Tomahawk bouncing around the cab if the truck and a gerber unknow model (as i am simply unmotivated to look for the specific model type at moment ) in the glove box of the truck. most days i just carry my old Star 9mm 1911 clone around. miss my spyderco and my kershaw both lost. sad days losing knifes.

I live in the UK too and it’s massively frustrating when (for example), I go out shooting and take a knife, then if I go home, lock my guns away in the security cabinet but then go back out down the shops accidentally leaving the knife in my pocket, should I be stopped and searched (unlikely but not impossible) I would be lumped in the same category as some scratter with a pit-bull on an estate, intent on a bit of knife-crime. But back to the OP, I carry either a small swiss army sub-3" blade knife usually. In the UK you can carry a knife legally in most (but not all) places as long as it doesn’t lock, and has a blade less then 3" long. I’ve also got a small Opinel without the locking collar. Far more dangerous to the user of course, than the intended (imaginary) victim. But when was law like this ever sensible?

I have a Victorinox ‘Handyman’ which I don’t generally carry around with me, but is a fantastic tool when you need it. Not too big or small and has enough on it to accomplish most general tasks. The pliers are a God-send.

Buck Model 110 Folding Hunter… anyone?

I’ve also got a Victorinox ‘campers’ locking knife which had got a brilliant little double toothed saw with which I’ve cut many a walking stick. It’s got a toothpick and a little pair of tweezers which are handy too. But, here in the good old uk, it’s illegal to carry it without ‘good reason’ - camping, walking and hiking would be a good reason though probably.

i carry a gerber dime most of the time. i also have a victorinox climber and sentinel, silver smith & wesson folder, albainox (its crap) and a couple of little serrated chisel edge lockers i got for 99p from an airsoft site that are actually not bad for regular around the house use. all cheapish knives… wouldnt mind a decent fixed.

I use a Buck 119 fixed hunter for hiking/camping

A SOG Twitch Tanto XL clipped to my pocket and a 30~YO Victorinox Spartan inside.

I carry a large cheap lock blade.

I had Victorinox Cadet, very useful little thing. Carry it with me all the time.

I had many over the years. Now I only carry a utility knife and of course my pipe knife/tamper. I am a weapon no need to cut anyone. I like fixed blades knives I have a few more than needed .

I own a collection of classic Laguiole knifes and I’m very satisfied. 9cm folding, small enough to be easy to carry but big enough to be practical.
