I picked up a Kershaw G-10 Hawk a few days ago and have already put it to good use slicing through some clamshell packaging. It is a great “gentleman’s knife” — it reminds me of a classic pen knife, but with a modern twist. Very light and nice in the hand. I can’t wait to get back home and slice off a piece of my Redman plug! Any other boy scout types on this forum care to share their thoughts on favorite cutlery pieces?
Well my favorite knife is my Wuesthof. Simple chefs knife really but damn that thing is good. It’s seen years of service and is still holding up great. The things had as many jobs as me almost. Holds an edge like nothing else I’ve ever seen. Seriously if you buy one for home it would probably be years before you needed to sharpen it. In fact I use it almost everyday. Though it’s just for cooking. Though I think it would be o.k. to use for a plug.
Spyderco J.D Smith, Buck M9 bayonet, and in my pocket every day Buck 301 Stockman.
K-Bar is my knife of choice, but I have an Apache Scout that holds an edge forever no matter what you do to it.
I don’t collect much but never leave home without one in my pocket…usually a Hen & Rooster or my Grandpa’s old Barlow
You folks have some nice blades there. I think a Rat/Esse Izula or a Becker Necker is in my future. Or a Benchmade Snody Activator. And a Grohman #3, and — it’s almost as bad as snuff! I’d like to get a Ka-Bar just for the heck of it, but it’s a little more knife than I would use on the regular. I’ve been trending downwards in size lately. For the kitchen I could use a good, heavy cleaver. I don’t have to hack through bone too often, but once in a while I need to quickly dispatch a chicken carcass and make a soup. I find making stock really fun. (Edited to address other posts.)
my everyday pocket knife for the last 8 or so years has been the Benchmade, griptilian designed by Arkansas knife maker Mel Pardue. It’s a wonderful all around knife and when i broke the clip off after getting snagged in some barbedwire, Benchmade repaired it for free. IN the kitchen I have a set of Victorinox cutlery. It was expensive, but it’s the kind of set you only need to buy once in life. I also have a really nice USMC edition Ka-bar, but it hangs on the wall in the plaque my buddies made for me when I got out of the Corps.
I knew I’d get a good response! I love this forum!
snuff_noob that is ridiculious!!! Which is to say awesome.
I use a Leatherman Surge multitool…i know its not technically a knife, but i carry and use it everyday for the past 3 years. so much so that i had to return it twice for lifetime warranty repair. I use it for work mostly but i got into the habit of having it with me all day everyday. before the Leatherman…i used to carry a Swiss Army knife for the past 15 years
Few years back I used to buy all sorts of mail-order crap *rolleyes*… these days my go-to knives are a Marttiini Kätevä (a small finnish outdoors/carving knife, with a rubber grip, sadly) and a cheapo folder, which merely serves it’s purpose. I don’t much care for those big name manufacturers; But I do see a few more Marttiinis in my arsenal down the line, as they are the defacto survivalist knives here. Edit: (And if I’m feeling brisk, I’ve got a pigsticker of an AK-47 bayonet stashed somewhere.) Edit edit: Heeeeeeeeere’s Waldo!!! Second from the top, “Timber Wolf: Tavern Dweller”. Keeps a decent blade, nowhere near the Marttiini tho. (Also, that folder is sold here as "Retki: Trooper. You know it’s a sad company when they have to rebrand no-name knives.)
I used to collect knives long ago. I still have an assortment of bayonets, boot knives, switchblades, swords and various other stuff scattered about. These days my daily blade is a small Leatherman Tool attached to my keychain. I carried a Victorinox Swiss Army knife for years until it literally came apart. I miss my U.S. military issued Camillus pocket knife which was stolen last year - it had a great back up can opener on it. I also keep a small Case pocket knife near my snuff collection for use as a snuff spoon.
I used to have a fair amount of mostly crap knives from flea markets and the like…speaking of military knives, when we were kids my grandfather got us each a TL-29 pocket knife. No great shakes but a solid little bugger; wish I knew where mine got off to!
I had/have an original Hitler Youth dagger, but I’m not sure if I still have it, it’s been years since I’ve seen it, and I’ve moved in that time. But it was nice, not great condition, but decent, and my grandfather gave it to me from the war. I need to dig through my stuff to see if I still have this, I really don’t know.
Hahah, nice S Noob! That brings back memories. I always had a throwing star as a young boy in the woods…and Num-chucks fashioned from some cord and two lengths of broomstick
Hahaha, darned straight Bart! Ghetto-chucks rocked
Love blades of all sorts, no budget. Random el cheapo collection around. Ken
