I put snus portions in one of my broken snuff house box. it beats carting the big round can around. I guess I could carry 1/2 can of dip in the other broken box . Just another use for the plastic box. @The_Persian_Slipper I got ten months use out of them I guess if I only had one it get twice the abuse. but if I was more careful it may had lasted longer also. I am hard on most things I use. Yes, I definitely got my moneys worth. I still have 3 that are working fine and still tight enough to keep a weeks of snuff fresh. I just got 2 more and have another two in my cart. Who know when @MrSnuff will have more made. I like to see chrome, smoked chrome, glow in the dark,Fluorescence colors, camouflage and tie dye and of course one with my avatar on the lid
Not being able to see and hold snuffboxes I’ve never bought one online. However, over the years I’ve been gifted a fair few. These gifts range from exquisitely made wooden ones with sliding lids (mostly far too small) to round cheap metal ashtrays masquerading as snuffboxes and varied trinket or pillboxes. Though useful none of them have actually been used for snuff. Last month I chanced four quid on a cheap plastic (plastic!) effort, clearly purpose built from the Preston shop. This box has doubtless been described elsewhere, but this is my verdict. It’s black, hinged, has a certain cheap bakelite feel, doesn’t leak and is a decent size for once, probably holding 15+ grams. The only box comparable in size in my possession is a large polished ebony metal-ended tabatiere bought in Paris some thirty-five years ago at considerable expense, and a similar cheaper one in rosewood. This, however, holds even more supply. So, for a heavy user of coarse snuff like myself it’s ideal, holding two full day’s worth. Moreover it has the all-important flat ends, allowing loose snuff to compact and remain fresh by being tapped & placed upright when not in the pocket or being used. The area exposed to air is then less then that of a tin - tall F&T tins included. One end has a slider that I could do without. Especially recommended to the heavy user of gros snuff who prefers to grasp as much tobacco as possible and any who fret about the 'elf & safety of beloved boxes costing real money. (I damaged my large rosewood snuffbox in Marrakesh January last. Pulling my handkerchief from a pocket while descending a steep minaret the box came with it, bounced down several steps and cracked. Wouldn’t have sworn so much had it been cheap plastic.)
I recommend the Tripletech wooden snuffboxes by Patrick Collins. A Google search will bring up results. Worth every penny as you can pinch, tap, or pull out the hand-carved bone snuff-spoon that rests in its own compartment. I have four years of use into mine and it is as tight as the day I bought it.
I would like to see some of these plastic snuff boxes available from Snuffstore - please.
i cant see any from snuffstore, they only seem to sell metal types. the rococo/mrsnuff plastic box in yellow from mrsnuff.com is all i have, but here- http://www.flickr.com/photos/41751408@N06/sets/72157633714139879/ i used a lighter of pretty standard size for comparison. lighter colours like yellow seem to show up stray snuff and muck more though.
Here are some plastic boxes and other popular boxes for comparison row 1. red, orange,snuffhouse.org box, black Mr.Snuff/rococo row 2 blue, brown ,green, Snuffhouse.org Row 3. green, blue, Mr.snuff/Rococo box Row 4. @Firestarter0 I meant I’d like Snuffstore to sell plastic boxes like the ones available from Mr Snuff.
well bugger, its done now haha. in that case, me too. would eliminate my need to screw around with dollars.
I’ll see what I can do.
I’ll see what I can do.
Thanks.
@MrSnuff Is there an ETA of when you’ll be getting the “On Order” colors for the Snuffhouse and MisterSnuff plastic boxs, Brown and Black.
I just received two of the snuffhouse.org plastic snuff boxes from Mister Snuff. Absolutely excellent boxes. I suppose you could say that plastic is tacky compared to, say, 925 silver. But there’s an aesthetic to functionality, and these are really well designed. I’ll add my voice to all those recommending them. Shame they are sold out of the nicer colours (blue, black and brown). Still, I got orange and red, which are pretty good. I just draw the line at the revolting lime green Mister Snuff box. I’d rather just use the tin in that case. Sorry, just my personal taste.
@bryanikon: we have an order in. I would think another couple of weeks at best unfortunately, but you never know.
Thanks for the reply @MrSnuff
I took a lime green and painted it silver and put clear coat over that. Just to see how it will work. I plan on painting the inside gold and clear coating that.
I didn’t realise I was not alone in having the slide panel on my Snuffhouse snuff-boxes break. I bought four (to avoid cross-contamination of different snuffs), and on two of them a little plastic “stopper” on the inside of the slide panel has broken, meaning it can come straight off the side of the box. I thought it was just me being heavy-handed. I know that they’re relatively cheap, and admittedly still usable, and luckily for me the two that have broken aren’t ones I generally take out with me, but I was a bit disappointed that after three months I’ve got a fifty-percent breakdown rate. Still prefer them to smash-tubs though.
I bought about 50 of these from snuffgear.com when a newbie, but in black, and they are superb. They keep snuff fresh for days. I also bought the ones from mrsnuff, but found them too fiddly and harder to open leading to frequent spillage so I stick to the snuffgear ones. Now that I’m down to only using a couple of snuffs a day, a couple of fancy snuff boxes are on the shopping list. http://snuffgear.com/index.php?main\_page=popup\_image&pID=13 http://snuffgear.com/index.php?main\_page=product\_info&cPath=14&products\_id=13
I have found that the mini snus containers make a decent snuff box for out and about. The Goteborgs one I just found from last summer had Tom Buck inside and the snuff was just fine.
