Has anyone tried this new snuff box from Mr Snuff? In the picture it looks like it could come from the same people that make the Snuffhouse box. I’m hoping the Snuffhouse box isn’t gone for good, but while I’m waiting for them I think I’m going to order up a couple of these.
I have one coming in my latest order, but as it’s not arrived yet…I’ll chime in when I see it.
I’ve got one. Certainly too big for a pocket snuff box. Enormous, holds about 50 grams of snuff.
Wow, that big? It looks like it’s got the slide on the side to tap from like the Snuffhouse box does. (Although half of mine are now glued shut)
@Java I bought it but have yet to use it. It appears to be the exact same box as the “Bernard Plastic Snuff Dispenser” (which I also bought), only without the Bernard sticker and $1 less. I see no obvious branding on this “Wilson’s” box. Dimensions are rougly 2" (slide side) x 3 3/8" x 1" thick, so it’s pocketable IMHO, but certain much larger than most pre-filled tap boxes, and will take up significant room in your pocket. The cross-section of the box (looking at the tap slide end of it) is a bit of a sideways ( ) shape, with the curved sections at the top and bottom, and the flat ends of the ( ) at the ends of the slide. Judging from the 50g NP Madras tin I got from @indiansnuff, which contains a product that is heavily compacted, I don’t think that I would be able to quite fit 50g of snuff in this box, but I’m sure I could fit the contents of a 25g SG tin in it with some room to spare, so I suppose 50g might be possible, especially for someone who likes his snuff boxes packed rather tightly. I bought a ton of round plastic tubs for pinching snuff from from Freund Container (similar to the ones Mr. Snuff sells, only a size bigger and something like $0.37 each). Still working out how to get cheap tap boxes, but for now I have 3 or so new plastic ones from Mr. Snuff, so once I figure out my favorites those should work for the snuffs I use most frequently. Hope this helps.
It sounds like it’s pocketable, but a couple of days would get lost in it.
I’m waiting for one in the post from mysmokingshop which looks like the same thing. From your description it sounds as if it would be a good size for schmalzler, but a bit big for anything else. I have a light brown plastic box 3.5"x2"x1" and the same shape you describe but without a slide that came (I think) from Germany. Photo attached with a MrSnuff Snuffhouse plastic box alongside for comparison.
Mine arrived this afternoon - it was as I expected - the same size as my light brown one. Photo below, again with the MrSnuff Snuffhouse one for scale. It seems well made and the plastic feels solid - certainly a bargain at the price mysmokingshop are pushing it out at.
Thanks, all, for the input. That is a lot bigger than I was hoping for.
looks like it’s a snuffbox box. Or a box you put your snuffboxes in.
It’s almost big enough to close around the SnuffHouse box. Got mine today also. I like it, I don’t that it’ll be a daily use box, btu if the SnuffHouse meet up ever happens it’ll be the one I fill to pass around.
I might use mine for carrying pipe tobacco in. A shame, nice shape and colour. Just an order of magnitude bigger than it should be for snuff.
I agree, that box was a big to large for me to carry around in my pocket, compared to the Roncoco mrsnuff box. Despite the larger size, seems well constructed. I could possibly see use for it if I was to be traveling for a few days and wanted to pack light, could fit a long weekends worth of snuff in it.
Good for a desktop if filled with Starr…the closest I’ve found to a toast from USA. Fairly cheap snuff and not bad at all.
I use two Bernard boxes one for bait while fishing. And the other make a good handy tackle box when standing in the middle of the creek. for hooks ,lures and split shots. They are too damn big for snuff unless you plan on hiking the entire Appalachian trail.
I can confirm, it’s huge. About twice the size I was anticipating. I like to present a sleek profile, so it won’t be going in any of my pockets I’ll find a spot for it on my desk. ETA on mine, some dust emerges at the hinge and opening edge on gentle shaking, so it’s for sure not being pocketed.
I was gifted one of those boxes several years back, and as a heavy user of coarse snuff find it rather good. It is an ideal size for me, keeps the contents moist enough and I can grasp a good sized wedge of snuff from it. (Having flat ends means that you can lay it upright when not in your pocket so snuff compacts one end, keeping it in good condition). The greatest advantage, however, is that this box, unlike so many others, will not upset me duly if it is lost or broken. Mine is roughly 88mm x 52mm with a depth of 13mm at the narrowest point with a slide one end (which I have never used). There are no markings on it and nothing to suggest it was made for Wilsons.
