@ tom502- We have our fair share of those too, there’ll always be some people who fall through the cracks in the system.
When they closed the Eloise mental hospital some years ago nearby, they basically cut the inmates loose with a scrip for Haldol. More than one urban explorer has found bum nests in old buildings with empty Haldol bottles among the detritus…
@ James S- That’s brutal. Haldol (or Haloperidol,) is old school psychiatric medication and has bucket loads of side effects. Mentally ill people shouldn’t be wandering around self medicating with that stuff, all sorts of things can go wrong.
I’ve been on haloperidol myself and you have to take another tablet with it to stop sideffects. Fourtunately they switched me over to resperidone and I feel tons better for it. Stefan
@ Walrus1985- Good they got you off of that, Risperidone is a better medication (though not without problems of it’s own…) I’m assuming they had you taking an anti-parkinsonian medication like procyclidine? I’m truly glad it’s helping you. Martin
Challenging behaviors are always…interesting…
Hehehe, well, that’s Michigan for you…zonk 'em out and cut 'em loose!
I work at a steel castings factory as a maintenance machinist, the factory employs 1,200 people. Around March they laid off 400 people, and then another 300 two months later. I got to keep my job though, because I was in highschool, didn’t recieve benifits, and only got payed 11 dollars an hour. Originally they said they would pay for me to go to college/apartment/food etc if I went to ISU as a mechanical engineer technoligist, but that had to be put on the back burner for now. Interestingly enough they asked me to come back on my Christmas break, and then again when I get out of college for summer. Another great thing about it is that I get 6 college credits just for working there each summer (a total of 24) because my boss signs me up as an intern. Since the factory makes parts for Caterpillar (around 70%) we won’t be going strong again until Cat picks back up. However, i am glad to have a summer job, and a guaranteed job out of college!
My economy sux right now. Haven’t worked for a year and a half. Seems no one wants to hire sixty year olds any more. I suppose we’ll all be equally poor soon enough and I’ll have more experience at it than the currently employed. I found the silver lining at last.
“I’m af®aid to tell you all how my economy is going, as it may turn political. Which might not sit well Alex or the rest of you…” Yeah, gotta love the sensorship here. But, I suppose there are better sites to discuss politics.
“I’m af®aid to tell you all how my economy is going, as it may turn political. Which might not sit well Alex or the rest of you…” O’ ya almost forgot, benards alt-offenbacher
