I’ll recommend a couple pedals that IMO they are ‘must haves’- Boss Rc-2 Looper/Delay (red pedal)- you can layer so many parts and solo on top of it. Or program a beat with it with accompanyment and all of the above. AWESOME pedal. worth $150 usd or so. I’m sure you could find a used one for less… as a bassist I’m in love with this thing. Big muff distortion pedal. Great low end and sustain. The best IMO Boss DD-7 Digital Delay. It has reverb and delay, with a tap tempo. Perfect little pedal. Just those three little pedals completely remove the need for any midi pedal boards and the like. They’re great and work on many instruments, not just guitar.
I don’t what or why, maybe it’s my age, or my early punk influence, but I just never cared about brand names, and I don’t connect with all the electronic gadgets and such. Sure, they are all great, and make a great sound, but for me, it’s very minimal, I just want something that can bash out the noise.
@transistor … absolutely, any delay is on my list, fo-sho. I am looking at mixing software too … any thoughts? @tom502 … i am with you as well … i like being open to both … but throw down some ramones, sex pistols, clash or even newer bands today like johnny foreigner, cymbals eat guitar … or something messy like the pogues … raw, only the instruments, straight ahead roll and in your face! i can dig on just about anything if i can find the precision, emotion or artistry in the genre …
ha ha yeah I don’t care about brand names on pedals- I want something that WORKS well. I mean- distortion and delay/reverb are very basic effects. That is if he’s interested in pedals…
sh*t … i will just take any ole electric with a whammy/wah-wah bar!
I have an old medium size Peavy amp, my guitar I’ve had forever, is a Cruise, which I never heard of. I have one distortion pedal called Metal Plus by Arion, a DrRhythm Boss little drum machine, an old Fostech 4-track cassette recorder, a Concertmate keyboard, all my stuff is going on 20 yrs old. I did buy a new bass recently, as the one I had forever, a Harmony brand, was just too old and had shorts in it, so I got a nice, but inexpensive Dean bass, new for $130 something. And I have some Optimus microphone. I don’t use the 4-track anymore, except as a go-between and I use the free program called Audacity to record at home.
@tom502 … 4 track would elicit great wonder and awe these days … you should lay all your recordings down with that and you’d be huge … anything old is new again. Audacity suits your needs then?
To be honest- any kind of multitrack recorder will work for you. Try to get one with a built in hard drive. I use Pro tools software but you can always use something like Cubase… or Sound Forge, etc.
The Audacity works fine to me. I’ve made many albums using it. The 4-track is just too limited now, now that I like and often use more than just 4 tracks, and I get a better sound with the Audacity.
thanks fellas … not that i am looking to put out anything for the masses … just curious to see what i can do to pass the time besides snuff … and sucking at golf.
I play just about everything but the drum kit. Mostly known for bass and keys in the area. Sometimes both at the same time. I have managed at times to turn it into a decent side income. Depends on the month. Ken
@debbie do you still play in a band nowadays? I’ll not let your secret out of your chart success but I used to love your former band. Stefan
Depending on your OS some other good alternatives to Audacity are Ardour and Reaper. Personally I use Ardour (Linux user). I like Audacity and use it as well. Audacity, however, is more designed as an audio editor (with multitrack capabilities, granted) but it shines in editing audio, not dealing with quick tracking and mixing of recording sessions. That is where Ardour for example shines. Ken
I already asked her. I didn’t get a reply. I don’t think I will, either…
Her band was pretty famous in England in the mid nineties. Stefan
@walrus1985 … can you give us a genre?
A few lyrics for ya @transistor. “I want to do great things, don’t want to compromise, I want to know what love is, I want to know everything.” @snuffbrant Indie/Britpop Stefan
@walrus1985 … i’m down now. cool …
Well that was easy to figure out. But I won’t tell Toffenose. By the way wasn’t she in 6 bands since the 90s. edm
I’m working on doing a cover version of the Pistol’s Pretty Vacant. I’ll make a youtube of it tomorrow.
