New MrSnuff

Today we opened up a new version of www.mrsnuff.com on different servers and a different platform. Feel free to check it out and give me your honest feedback. It is still in beta while we iron out a few wrinkles. One issue is the SSL certificate. It is secured with a GoDaddy cert which uses Truste. You can see it is real and valid by clicking on the godaddy icon on the bottom left of the homepage. However, for some reason when you sign into the member page or when you try to buy anything your browser may return a warning saying the cert is “self-signed”. It isn’t. In fact we wouldn’t even know how to self-sign. Point is, transactions are, according to our host, totally secure. If you prefer though, you can always go to www.mistersnuff.com. This is the original MrSnuff site which will remain fully active and functional for the next week or so. In any case, I would appreciate your input. There are significant enhancements including a decent order history; better emailing of the progress of your order; more accurate shipping costs (much narrower bands by weight); more shipping options; simplified checkout and a bunch of other features. One thing is an easier product review feature. This is very important. With over 1300 products it is difficult for someone new to snuff to work out what they might like. The best way is to have multiple honest reviews which are both objective and subjective. And it is folks like you that, lets face it, are the world’s best and most knowledgeable. I you have a moment I would really appreciate you letting others know your thoughts on your favorite snuffs. Many thanks, Dave

This alone makes me very happy! These were the exact things i wished for in the old site! I took a look at the new site, and must say it seems to be a vast improvement! Awesome work and congrats on the new site…and a much deserved Thank You!

I’m liking it

I can’t log in. old site used user name new site uses email address won’t let me log in with my email address. edm

Had the same prob…just re-register using your same info from the old site

I’ve only given it a quick look — the new features sound great — but I really like the new look. Cleaner and easier to use but not too different from before. It’s great!

I can’t log in. Its telling me my email address is unrecognized as well.

I’m getting the log in issue too, but the store looks really nice. Very clean update. I’m looking forward to trying out all the new features. Good job Dave!

I can’t get the links to the different snuffs by nationalities to work

Thanks for your input guys. Unfortunately we were unable to shift all the login info over so you will have to register again…but only once. This system is much more stable and some of the obvious things actually work (like if you forget your password). The last system we used was called Business Catalyst and is owned by Adobe. If any of you ever consider doing ecommerce do not be lured by BC. It has lots and lots of bells and whistles, some really fancy ones, but unfortunately they do not play in tune. The result is some really silly bugs which they won’t address, and lots of really annoying bugs for essential items like for example stock control. @snifs: depending where you live it takes different times to propagate worldwide. It should work for you soon if not now.

Im not sure if im just not looking properly, but how do you get it to display the prices in Pounds Stirling? There isnt the drop-down option that there was before.

@Koba22: we are pricing in USD only for now, but plan to shift to multi-currency soon. All the modules are in place and the datalink api is set to transfer currencies into Sage on the on the backend, but we elected to start with single currency at launch to keep things simpler. You can still buy in GBP or EUR at the respective mrsnuff.co.uk or mrsnuff.eu sites. Thanks David

Dave, a real improvement all around, I like it! There is only one glaring problem, when I looked under a lot of the snuffs it said “ON Order”, you really need to change that to “in stock”. Other than that perpetual problem, Kudos.

I’m doing a little practicing with the new site. One thing that is kind of annoying is that when shopping on one page I add something to my cart and then the view immediately changes to my cart, which means I must naviagte back to the page I was shopping on if I was not finished there yet for every item. On the old site, I would just get a little notice that the item was added to the cart, and I was kept on the same page. That was much better.

Something that would be really nice to add some day if possible would be a wishlist. As I’m browsing the store reading about various snuffs, there are always some that I know I want to try in the future. My only option today is to add it to a list I keep on a spreadsheet at home; it would be great to be able to add it to a list in my account in your store, so that each time I order I can simply pick a few new ones to include. I’m sure this would help with incremental sales if you could enable it. On thing I really like is the notification for out of stock items. I hope that works!

@Xander…noted. I will see what we can do @ddavelarsen: great suggestion. I have found a module that might do the trick. We’ll play around with it over the next few days and if it works out, we’ll definitely add that feature. @Whalen…indeed! Thanks for the input. Reviews please. Pretty please! Do I need to run a competition? Oh, lastly, before I forget: we have the ability to have bundles of various snuffs…is this something you think would be useful? If so, any suggestions? Thanks again, Dave

I’m sure this is not a bundle idea that would work in the real world, but one thing I’m trying to do is compare various manufacturer’s similar themes. For example, sandalwood, or kendal brown. I’m slowly acquiring all the sandalwood snuffs I can and will then do a side by side snuff-out to see which I prefer. There are other flavors too; apricot for one. But I can’t imagine that this would be an actual selling point for anyone else. I’m not a very good reviewer, but will give this some thought and see what I can come up with.

hey man seriously the only way to really use reviews well is to read several. Then composite them all in your head. So please don’t think of it as a game but as a favor.

@ddavelarsen: thank you much appreciated @bob: totally agree. apologies if I came off otherwise. I know it takes a lot of effort, and especially for the folks here who don’t really need reviews, it is an even bigger favor since there is little return. Reviews are more for relatively new snuffers who come to the site and see >1000 different products. It has got to be somewhat overwhelming. From our side it is devilishly hard to organize everything in a meaningful way which allows people to drill down to something they might like. Dave

Xander stole my only complaint. I’ve actually been enjoying the new site. I like to write reviews, but usually don’t feel experienced enough…i tend write more along the lines of how I personally liked/disliked and put it in simple terms because that’s what i like to read. That’s one of the things I think rocks about the people that do post reviews there. There’s none of the fancy schmancy stuff shirt terminology, just informative, easy to understand opinions. I don’t end up feeling more confused AFTER reading the reviews like i do with some other product sites.
