Home Snuff Making

I’m interested to hear so many people talk about cigar filler as being the right tobacco for a base. I tried CnD Tuggle Hall (latakia, perique, Cavendish) a while back. The flavor was too strong straight, but great mixed 50-50 with Toque Violet. I still wwasn’t really happy to need to mix with a commercial snuff to get the result I wanted, even though I thought it was far better than the toque by itself.

I used Juxtaposer’s formula for a Perique/old cigar snuff a few months ago. I added this strange, grain alcohol infused w/ raspberry mixture a horse boarder girl gave me. Let it sit a few months, added some clove oil on a piece of tissue, and some Toque Rustica coarse. The result is very deep, dark, mysterious, and has a nice burn and horrible drip. But I am a little proud of it, as it is quite good. Once again, my thanks to Mr. J for the basic instructions. I can’t wait to try it with all the Hopi Rustica I’ve been growing this summer.

Does anyone here know if I can toast my Hopi Rustica? If so, can I use a conventional gas oven? Thanks, Jonathan

You can toast any tobacco if you keep it under control. Ovens can be iffy, and a little aggressive. I have the ashes to prove it. A ceramic crock pot makes a great kiln. Cut the weed small, start it on the “warm” setting, stirring often. When it’s crispy dry, increase to “low” and toast until it smells right. Keep stirring When it’s right, get it out of there…the residual heat in that ceramic insert can keep toasting it well past perfect. One last word of wisdom: Don’t use your home smoke detector as a timer.

All to much like hard work to me … I will leave it to you and happily purchase the results… Something nice about when someone asks me where I buy my snuff and I reply " I know a gent in America that makes it for me"

HF rock tumbler and 3/8" chrome balls incoming here as well. I had to take a serious look at prices and keeping a budget and I’ve been spending way too much on tobacco lately. The coffee grinder just not cutting it, this will even the playing field now, shouldn’t have to buy any more. I think I know how they are making white snuffs, after next grow season I’ll see if I was right.
