Anyone have any luck with this? Does a PLASTIC snuff mill work good? I saw one on SnuffStore, and i’ve been wondering if its a useful thing to have around. There’s always a possibility of running out of snuff, especially in-between orders. I always figured it would be useful, if I had some pipe tobacco or something. Anyways, I suppose that’s enough for now. Take care! -Michael
A snuff mill is not necessary. Get yourself a mid-price range electric coffee grinder and some pantyhose material to sieve out the large particles. I’ve made some pretty nuclear snuff out of the Toque rustica leaves. Other members here have had good luck with grinding cigars and pipe tobacco into snuff this way.
Very nice. So a decent coffee grinder, some pantyhose, and some pipe tobacco, and i’m all set! Any sort of suggestions for flavoring? Thanks again for the help!
I prefer plain toasts, so I have never flavored any snuff I have ground. I am too lazy to do it myself, but check out the search feature and you will find many threads about flavoring snuff. You will get 3 different grinds out of the coffee grinder if you grind the tobacco long enough. The pile of ground material can be sieved through the pantyhose to produce a normal grind snuff (snuff that goes through the pantyhose) and a course grind (snuff that does not go through). You will also notice an extremely fine (toast/scotch) grind that accumulates on the inside of the lid and sides of the grinder. Carefully scrape this out and you will have 3 different textured snuffs from the same tobacco. In my experience, all of the different grinds have their own merits and lend themselves to mixing with other manufactured snuffs to provide hybrid snuffs. Good luck and make sure to post your results. You never know, you might come up with the next Spanish Jewel…
@MikeMoose, I bought a SnuffStore grinder. You can have it for free, only pay for shipping. But I must warn you, it’s useless. I use an ordinary coffee grinder as well as a burr grinder which works perfect.
I just got a burr grinder and I’ve not had much luck. The tobacco doesn’t seem to want to go into the grinding area. It’s getting stuck on the way down. Would breaking it up more help???
Yes bob, the key to fitting square pegs into round holes is using smaller square pegs.
@PieterClaassen : Thank you for the offer, but as you’ve said, it’s useless , so I will probably stick to my plan. Thanks anyways! EDIT: Well… It’s decided then. If my order is not here tomorrow (which it probably won’t be
… And even if it is…) , i’ll head into town and get what I need to make my own snuff! I’ll probably just end up posting the results here. I have made a YouTube channel as well, which will be snuff dedicated. " MrMichaelSnuff " if you are interested. I’ll probably make a video review of my custom snuff too. Thanks again to everyone for the information and the input!
Looking forward to your snuff videos! For what it’s worth, I made a wholly satisfactory, if somewhat coarse, snuff with a plain ole mortar and pestle. It took a bit, but I worked a cigarette’s worth of tobacco down in good order and have been totally pleased. In fact, I just finished it off and getting ready to make another go of it. I’ve found a number of burr coffee grinders on ebay too, though I haven’t yet jumped on any. Probably will though, as making one’s own snuff is kind of addicting.
Yes I have a feeling that this will become quite a large hobby of mine. I am really looking forward to going out tomorrow and gathering up everything I need. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight
I can’t imagine ever running out of snuff, and my hoarde is not as big as some members’.
I got my first order of snuff! Wilsons of Sharrow : Tom Buck . I’ve already made a Video Review, but my wireless internet is a bit of a wench… And I don’t have time to upload it today unfortunately. But I must say, Tom Buck is really quite nice… It would be a snuff I would recommend to any newcomer to snuff
Any sort of suggestions for flavoring? Thanks again for the help! # LincolnSnuff Have a hot chick wear the pantyhose for a week before sieving
As long as she’s hygienic
I have had good success with a large mortar and pestle.
