Anatomy, Snuff and Technique - Useful tips for beginners.

Patience @Chef_Dean it will arrive in good time and all will be well…

I use quiet same technique like using different angles when holding a pen. I mean I sort my snuff in lines and use some kind of handmade snorters that are usually pens with no ink inside. I tried to find a perfect angle to reduce the snuff burn, increase the possible amount of taking and it worked fine to me. Though also it depends upon how moist your snuff is.

I’m pinching now, I found it easier with the toque snuff to pinch then open the pinch when at the nostril and rest both finger’s against the outside nostril wall, inhale through my mouth hold my breath and sniff lightly.

You might want to try exhaling everything before you sniff. Worked for me

As a new snuffer, this is some good info. Thanks thorgrimnr! I’ve found that for the finer, dry snuffs like White Elephant, if I form a small pile in my anatomical snuff box and smell slowly then it has least chance of throat hit. Dry, fine snuffs though aren’t very easy to use in a bullet due to the higher pressure needed to get the initial ‘launch’. I’ve been experimenting with how many times I tap the bullet and how hard I tap it though as obviously it will create a harder plug with each tap = potential disaster as this hot plug hits the sinuses in one great slap! I’m a big fan of the pinch method though, it really seems to get the aroma going and it’s just ergonomically easier, works better outdoors with a slight breeze and is much easier to do when on the go. This method seems to work best with the english snuffs like McChrystals, WoS etc. I’m a health worker and have some knowledge of anatomy so may I just also say that the reason you produce tears during the burning in the sinuses is because the lacrimal duct is trying to flush away the foreign body. This is the same reason why quite often your nose will just run and get snotty after a snuff hit

so im trying to figure out exactly how this would work with a pinch. im guessing you get more scent if it hits you septum as opposed to just covering the outer part of the nostrils. sorry for revining this necropost but im looking to see what i may be doing wrong because i can like go over night without taking a pinch and i dont get even the tiniest hint of nicotine or scent. in fact the only way i currently even realise ive taken snuff is by the throbbing of the vescles inside of the nose. like im sure i could take a whole gram or completely fill my nostrils and not feel even a tiny bit sick or anything from nicotine. so i guess im just trying to make it more enjoyable again instead of just being addicted to the habit but find a real reason to be addicted to it. oddly enough i dont get nicotine withdrawal headaches. i could take one pinch let it sit for a few then not have another pinch and no headache. when i could like vape or use snus and get those headaches. so i figure i must not be doing it right or not getting the snuff where it needs to be to actually effectively get nicotine and scent from it. at this point its more just a habit thing and not so much an enjoyment thing but im going to keep trying to make it an enjoyent thing like it used to be. i noticed a change in scent and nicotine when i started toing the adams apple drop to take snuff and did that for so long im trying to get my technique back to where it was when i first started. by that i mean my inhalation technique. you said that when you get it either close to or inside your sinuses thats where you get the nicotine from. and i can correlate that because when iu stopped trying to get it close to that area is when i noticed a drop in enjoyment and all that. ive tried and literally cannot feel it even getting to the entrances of the sinuses. ive tried sniffing in at a normal breathing speed with my lung and diaphram power and that doesnt get it their either. its different for everyone of course some people may get the most pleasure by keeping it away from the sinuses and all that but its not like that for me. make sense?
