Hello guys i have two questions first one is about that front of the nose i searched about it and saw on youtube that it stupose to be in the front of the nose wish is something i did never enoyed it that way even if it it is true that in the front of the nose could help the snuff not getting in the back of your throat, are everyone doing it in the front of the nose or it is just fine if not, and another thing is feeling all the pleasure of snuff stuposing to be doing more cause that little pinch didn’t work for me as well lol thanks guys

N

For one you want snuff to hit the front of the nose because it burns like hell if you snort it into your sinuses. Secondly small pinches are not only harder to take (bigger pinches and piles are less likely to hit the sinuses or throat because the snuff to air ratio is much higher meaning there is less air pushing each individual snuff particle) they dont do much other than impart the scent of the snuff. If your using snuff for nicotine you need to take big pinches often. A pinch to me is as much snuff as I can grab with my thumb and forefinger. If you take a pinch every couple minutes and blow your nose as needed even weak snuffs will give you a nicotine overdose eventually. Even with strong snuffs I need to take at least 2 or 3 pinches a few minutes apart to feel the nicotine.

A pinch as a single time dose can be defined as any amount of snuff needed to feel nicotine satisfaction, administered by any method (“pinch”, “boxcar”, back of the hand etc). It can be literally just one pinch or a series of them.

Now “the front of the nose” actually covers quite large area within your nostrils - all the way up below the frontal sinuses (about 3 cm above nose openings). If you are not sure where the frontal sinuses are located, run an image search for “frontal sinus”. Note, you should avoid snuff hitting that particular spot - it might be very, very painful. It has happened to me quite a few times during my first years of snuff taking, it feels worse than the most intense toothache, especially with mentholated snufs. Like being stabbed with a knife right there. Not exaggerating, it may leave you rolling on the floor, crying and screaming for a life-long couple of minutes.

Consider yourself lucky, getting warned. No one had given me a heads-up in mid-nineties, and learning to take snuff took more than five years to me. This is not to say that each time was painful - surely, not. But “accidents” kept happening every now and then till I switched from the back of the hand (prevailing regional method of taking snuff, blame Poschl with their tapboxes…) to actual pinching (thanks to English snuff and tins).

P. S. I only take snuff by boxcar now. Cheers!

@volunge thank you, can you run a photo of that frontal sinus im not sure i was doing ot right thanks

@volunge

@volunge that’s what i found, is the front of the nose like better than using it randomly on the nose? Is the front of the nose like how it sounds like?

With all due respect, I think you are overthinking it a bit. If you take a modest pinch, (I use forefinger and thumb), place it under a nostril (I make physical contact) then give a gentle “sniff”, the snuff should go where you want it. The velocity of your “sniff”, of course, comes with time and practice. The condition of your nose, the grind/moisture level of the snuff, and how highly “medicated” it is will all play a part.

Basically you simply want it in your nose, not up into the sinus cavity or worse, down your throat. Snort a big pinch of White Elephant and you’ll regret it, give it a very gentle sniff, and everything is great (well, WE does take more practice, but you get the drift).

@mecompco thanks bro, i think its all about that burn in the nose, that’s why im thinking about getting it more to feel the burn that comes to the eye as well, instead getting snuff without burn feels like nothing, thanks bro

V

A healthy burn is enjoyable and inevitable sensation (all factory-made snuffs are “salted”, that’s where most of the burn comes from; menthol and other ingredients are to blame for the rest of it). Just avoid drawing it up too vigorously (unless it’s coarse and moist). To prevent snuff hitting the sinuses, internal naris and nasopharynx , you can shrink (contract) your nasal passages with your facial muscles around your nose. Only coarse and moist snuff you take with nasal passages wide open. The snuffs you have are of rather fine grind, even Radford isn’t that coarse really. Take them with due caution.

Here I have marked the front of the nose (framed with a heart), as I understand it:

@volunge yes well i get it now , so the front of the nose meaning it stupose to not go far than getting just on the nostrils to not hit the sinuses, i thought the front of the nose is like this little area in front of the nostrils well actually i was doing it wrong i think, thank bro

A

@volunge what about that nose rebound is it ok to still doing snuff even if you have a nose rebound?

N

You can still take snuff with rebound its just hard to sniff it up. Some snuffs can help with rebound congestion, when I get rebound I find a plain American Scotch snuff clears my nose in seconds.

A

@n9inchnails Thanks i just was afraid to do so with that rebound and getting it worst

I use a lot of snuff. I get stuffed up or have a drip often. I tend to alternate snuffs to off-set one issue or the other. I find the white Indian snuffs to be great at drying up a drippy nose. Course snuffs tend to create drip for me, so I use those when I’m stuffed up. It’s a constant battle that I willingly wage daily.
