Very simular situation here. Haven’t really had a desire for snuff in the last year. Contemplating offing the a hole lot off as I know most all of my stash is no longer available and can’t justify keeping it all.
Yep, same here. Loads of tins open but as long as my top 5 are fresh and in constant rotation I try not to let it bother me.
(It bothers me a lot)
@nicmizer My snuff usage comes and goes. I have enough to last me well over a decade - and if I’m honest with myself, probably a good while longer - but I don’t think I’ll ever be selling up. I’ll certainly be loathed to part with stuff that I’d never be able to replace. I max out at 2g to 3g per day, sometimes go as long as two weeks without a pinch, and had about 8 kilos at the last count. If I average a gram a day, that’s 21 years! And it’s mine, all MINE >:)
All my tins, tap boxes, tubs and cartons are open and in constant rotation. I am fresh snuff fiend and try to keep my favourites fresh by constantly reordering moderate amounts. Well, I don’t fuss about freshness of snuffs that I am not so fond of - my oldest snuff is over 8 years old now, but it’s still good for occasional pinch.
When I order something new and untried, I open everything on the same day (yes, I’m still too eager to find the Grail ). If there’s a new favourite, I know I’ll go through it fast. My small stash consists of some precious (discontinued) and some less favoured snuffs, now totalling just over 250 g and tending to accumulate fractionally. Such amount is sufficient to prevent me from snuff famine (in case of any prolonged pause between reorders) for up to two months.
I have 33 containers within my reach right now (all open, naturally, but some contain only tiny amount of snuff):

@volunge uhh… you *do* realize you only have two (2) nostrils and only 24 hours in a day, right? But mostly I am jealous of your collection.
he might have more then 2 nostrils. You never know.
Or just one really, really big one.
you can never be sure.
(delete)
Just one (1) nose with two (2) nostrils and voracious appetite.
That guy alone can probably put the children of every snuff company’s employee through college, the question is, what is his preference? I doubt he likes schmalzers, so you can write off the Germans right off the bat.
Hey now… don’t make fun of my cousin. Him and I both like most German snuffs.?
Yeah, i have that problem too. The only tins that remain sealed are the backup tins that I already have open.
Since I started this thread back in October, the only open tins that I’ve actually killed off are a Molens A/P, JHW SP No.1, Toque Pomegranate, Pumpkin Pie, and Toffee, SG Grousemoor (only 5 tins of that left :-SS I wish I’d bought that one in bulk) and Vanilla, WoS Chocolate Orange (which for some reason I hadn’t listed), and Aniseed and Eucalyptus. I have refilled my snuffboxes from my glass jars a few times though… I also failed to list the four Viking tins that I have on the go too. I actually need to get a move on with these, as some have started rusting on the outside. :-t The contents are still in tact though, which is a BIG relief. Still a lot of work to do yet … thankfully. >:)
I spoke too soon about the four Viking tins … I just took a pinch of Viking Brown, went to pop the lid back on, and my thumb went through the bottom ~X( I managed to salvage most of it, but it looks like I need to sort some glass jars out this weekend.
@50ft_trad You need to be more calm, friend. Snufftaking is a finesse-based hobby, like playing a violin or pickpocketting.
@50ft_trad maybe professional thumb wrestling is in your future. :))
You may mock, but it was a distressing moment. Rather like that moment when you’re wiping your arse with cheap toilet paper, and your finger goes through it. Only my fingers smelled a lot better this time…
If you treat your snuff boxes as you treat your butthole, maybe you should go back to aluminum tins?
Better quality toilet roll is the higher priority. There’s some brown stuff I don’t mind putting my fingers in, and some stuff I do.
