For members interested in the social history of snuff Hugh McCausland’s ‘Snuff and Snuff boxes’ (Batchworth Press, London) is probably the best starter. McCausland had close access to Fribourg and Treyer’s order books and business when he wrote the book in the early 1950s. Fribourg’s supplied some significant world figures in snuff’s glory days. The book, of course, is long out print but can still be found. 'The book of Snuff and Snuff Boxes by Mattoon Curtis (Liveright, 1935) is probably harder to find (and not, I think, as good) but still worth looking for.
