Oh yeah computers are brutal at chess now. Gone are the days where we had Bookshelf-sized computers dedicated to chess- now I can download software that will spank a GM (Grandmaster) up and down the board all day long.
One time you could find ways to beat chess machines. Not any more…my fiendish plan gets deeper and deeper, one slip and it’s all over.
Used to play chess regularly with a good friend in the days of fore, not these days tho. We stopped playing after I kept winning conscecutively. The thing is, I concidered the bloke to be miles above me in IQ. Just goes to show that unconventional tactics and playing ‘by the seat of my pants’ can sometimes win the day, I guess. Still, I’ve no doubt that any even remotely competent junior chess player could wipe the floor with me, each and every time. On Go, I like the whole mythology of it, the fact that computers are still rubbish at it, and so on and so forth. Tried it, didn’t catch. Maybe one day, maybe one day.
I play chess regularly, its the nicest game, but can become time-consuming. Last year i played in a somewhat higher division. The departure to the playing venue Sundays 10:00 a.m. and comeback home 11:00 p.m. so the sunday is gone. I reduced playing at tournaments, because most tournaments are 2 games a day here and 10-12 hours chess daily is almost to much for an old man like me
