Anyone here play Blackjack? I’ve just learned basic strategy and I’m working advanced techniques. I didn’t think there was a strategy to the game, I just thought it was more of an intuition thing. There are plenty of sites out there and a lot of research done to show you the best move based on what you have and what the dealer is showing. Lets use this thread to share gambling/card playing stories and techniques.
It is this very reason I don’t find black jack interesting. Once you have found what you stand on, its not very fun. I much prefer Texas Hold 'em
I used to play a game “Hearts” as a boy in the Winter months when things were slow. I’ve gotten into card tricks and especially coin tricks, slight of hand, since my children came along. It’s good to know a bit of magic with kids around. I recommend “Modern Coin Magic” J.B. Bobo.
Disco,
Counting cards is always an interesting pasttime as well…
Speaking of hearts, I always liked spades.
I like playing Hold 'em as well, but it’s been a while since I’ve played. I’m learning how to count cards, but I haven’t applied it yet at the casino. Anyone play cribbage?
I grew up playing Hold 'em with my family (family of gamblers I must say). My father was by far the best out of the lot (we would go to Vegas and he always came up big). I play a little bit of everything: Hold 'em, 7 Card Stud, Blackjack. I also play a bit of Mahjong (not the shit you find on computers and video games, I’m talking real gambling Mahjong) because I’m Asian an my mom loves that shit.
We should all get together sometime on PokerStars or something and play a few hands.
Yeah, I used to play cribbage. Its been so long I forget how, but I remeber it being tons of fun. Also everything you have heard about sailors and cribbage is true.
I play cribbage. You can play for money and in tournaments at www.gamecolony.com. I’m Clubbie1985 if anybody fancies a game?
Stefan
Oh cool. I’ve heard about game colony. I’m a member of the ACC (American Cribbage Congress) and I play in a grassroots league. There might be one near you if you are interested. I’ll check out game colony and send you a message sometime.
@Disco, I doubt there’ll be an ACC club near me, I’m in England :-).

I also play cribbage - used to play it in the pub in years gone by, but that sort of pub is getting harder and harder to find.
I’d like to find a pub without a television. Seems such a thing doesn’t exist anymore, at least not here.

Oh ok, you come from where the game originated. I always assume that everyone lives in my country for some reason.
One word- Euchre.
I enjoy reading bridge columns- Omar Sharif writes one- as surreal literature. Never played bridge though. Like more dominoes as social game, it’s more relaxed, cards can get too intense, especially playing house rules, which are customary among long-term acquaints.
