Enjoy a pinch of snuff with your espresso? Some of you might or not be aware, but studies have found that nicotine doubles the metabolism rate of caffeine. In other words, taking nicotine allows you drink more coffee without feeling caffeine sickness. Studies have found that cigarette smokers who drank say 3 cups of coffee a day who then stopped smoking but continued drinking 3 cups of coffee a day would experience caffeine overdose and caffeine sickness. The nicotine had been speeding up the metabolism of caffeine, without the nicotine all the caffeine was able to build up in the body and cause caffeine overdose.
any sources? i have a dicky heart, and have rarely experienced caffeine overdose. i used to drink an 8-cup cafetiere of extra strength brewed fresh ground coffee a time, just like water (now i drink more tea, and will get 9 mugs of oolong out my teapot refilled 3 times- i drink first brew too). however nicotine from snus building up has given me sickness… i wonder if it works both ways.
