Zwiefacher

This is a great snuff. I just whipped up a video review for it tonight, and I gotta say… It is quite amazing. So many different scents all mixed into one. And it is camphor in it, correct? Not menthol? Does anyone else love this little treat? I’ve also noticed it does have a good nicotine hit… I’ll end up snuffing this for the rest of the night :stuck_out_tongue: .

Astromina is the one with camphor. Search to see our ravings, if you want to.

I will definitely take a look. So I was wrong… What is it in the Zwiefacher that gives it the cooling sensation? Is it menthol then?

They both have menthol.

Zwiefacher loosely means ‘two times or two ranges’, possibly referring to a the mingling of different scents in the snuff. Most likely it refers to the farmer dance you see illustrated on the sneezebox which was a 3/2 time configuration popular around the late 1700’s. (You would be amazed to know that Zwiefacher evolved into modern-day breakdancing and more recently, the style called ‘popping’.)

Best upfront flavor, worst drip imaginable! I fell in love with the first snort.

"Zwiefacher loosely means ‘two times or two ranges’, possibly referring to a the mingling of different scents in the snuff. " Undoubtedly so. It’s a clever name for snuff, embodying not just mixture but also the joyfulness of Zwiefacher. “Most likely it refers to the farmer dance you see illustrated on the sneezebox which was a 3/2 time configuration popular around the late 1700’s.” You are right about the popular folk dance common in Alpine countries. However, the Zwiefacher mixes meters with measures in three-time (waltz) alternating with measures in two-time (polka). Many scores have alternating meters (for example Bernstein’s ‘America’ from West Side Story 6/8 3/4 throughout XxxXxxX X X) but the Zwiefacher jumbles meters in a haphazard way, causing much confusion and laughter for most couples (I know because I tried it in Switzerland.)

Holy crap…I’m really lost now!!! Why’d ya hafta go and throw numbers in there?!

I did end up sniffing that snuff for the rest of the night :stuck_out_tongue: . Although I think it was too much by the time I went to bed… Bah, nevermind that. You can never have enough, right? …Maybe the queesyness of my stomach was a sign though lol…

I had to look this up, as I hadn’t heard of the Zweifacher German dance (my ignorance would be a great shame to my German heritage) . Once I heard it on a Youtube vid, I knew you guys were talking about “Bayerischer”. It’s fun to dance, and “mistakes” (due to the tempo changes) are part of the fun - - especially when you are forced to bump into your dance partner ever so ungracefully, followed by lots of laughter. Best done after a LOT of beer. Now I will have to try the snuff too - will it live up the fun of dancing the Bayerischer?

Yes, that is a fantastic snuff.

LOL Hey Mike! It’s pipetech26… I just watched your youtube vid. You are a huge reason why I snuff now… thanks!

love this stuff, wonderful rich stuff.

Wow, even with menthol I think I might add this to my wishlist just to see what all the raving is about. Cool update on the dances too, thanks you bunch of worldly people. I live such a sheltered life.

Zweifacher sounds a lot like the dance of the high alpine monks called Hugerzaglmiztwatchienz (or Hugerwatchienz for short). Unfortunately due to the high altitudes, the sudden changes in tempo, and the large amounts of beer consumed during the dance…most of the monks plummeted to their death before the dance could really catch on. However, legend has it that their crashing through the roofs of the huts in the village below is actually where the idea for sky lights come from…so it wasn’t all a loss. This dance also has a snuff named after it Hugerzaglmiztwatchienzsuffin. It is a deep brown moist snuff that is so coarsely ground that it falls right out of your nose………you know…………….in memory of the monks

According to the general manager at Bernards, Zwiefacher simply means “two dancing” as is noted on the tin. If this has anything to do with it being a halb schmalzler, I do not know.

Good to see you back again, Chris. ( I was thinking this thread would be a perfect place for a rick roll under a Zwiefacher heading, lol!!)

Ah my.pipetech26! I figured it was you :stuck_out_tongue: . Wow, thanks a lot! That’s a really cool thing to hear  . I am glad you enjoy my videos! I must agree, Zwiefacher is definitely one of my favorites now. Makes me look forward to trying some other shmalzlers!

Chris, somewhere in an old thread is the response Bernard sent you. Didn’t it mention something about a happy marriage of snuff and schmalzler?

I thought it meant “two-step” in reference to the metre. Some vendors have the green box with grey illustration and others have the full colour illustration - is there any difference? and if not where can I get the pretty one? - even an empty one for the coffee table?
