Hi guys! Thanks a lot for the suggestions you gave me, about the first question I made on this forum. Now, allow me to specify the matter I’m interested to, asking you about - YOUR favourite way to keep snuff in the very front of the nose, avoiding snut/snuff residuals in the throat - the kind of snuff brand/quality that - in your opinion - is the the most indicated to be successful in keeping snuff in the very front of the nose, avoiding the problems in the throat I described And a last question… - could snut/snuff residuals in the throat enter (directly or indirectly) the larynx (voice box), or could they normally go in the stomach, through a normal swallowing? Thanks in advance
I like the drip from most of my snuffs, it adds to the flavor, or rather, is the flavor, on top of the scents. Occasionaly a dry snuff will choke me up on sniffing, but hiting the voicebox I’m not sure of. I’m also still a newbie. and welcome to the forum SC
snuffcurious: In all honesty, this is a matter you will have to experiment with for yourself. Stuff taking is more of an art than an exact science. The right method for one person may be the wrong method for you. If you start to feel a drip toward the back of your throat, maybe you could blow your nose and try again. I find that the finer and dryer the snuff is, the harder it is to control. Poschl makes many a great snuffs that are good for a beginner. Try Silverstone Orange or some of the Ozona flavors. They are a little heavier and easier to keep away from the back of your sinuses.
Generally if you want a snuff that will stay in the front part of the nose without using tricks or acquired technique you would want a moister or more corse snuff. The more moisture is in the snuff, the heavier it is & therefore harder to get to the back of nose. Same with corse snuff. Any snuff that enters the nasal canal will become moist & mix with your natural mucosa. Just as you live everyday in your house & when the sunlight comes in and you can see dust in the air. When this dust enters the body by breathing, it mixes with you mouth or nose moisture. Then swallowed to the stomach or blown out the nose & passed out the body. Same goes for snuff if it were to get to the throat. It is no longer a dry particulate once it enters the nose. Here are some techniques I have posted before: Well with your right nostril you could try having the pinch in your right hand and when your pinched fingers reach the nose, reach up with the middle finger on press slightly on the outside of the nostril (on the side of nose not the top) closing the nasal passage slightly Well not everyone is the same. For me I take a pinch & bring it up until my thumb nail and index finger nail just touch the inside edge of the nostril. Then I give a quick light sniff while kind of flaring my nostril by raising the side of my upper lip that I’m taking a snuff on (kind of like the face you would make if something smelled bad). You need to sniff rather than just breathe in. You might try holding the pinch kind of tight and only releasing small amounts at a time & at the same time rubbing your two fingers together. You can also experiment with your head position, sometimes it works by touching your chin to your chest when you sniff. Also turning head left or right. Something else that works is filling your lungs with air before you sniff. You can also try breathing on the snuff like you were fogging a mirror before you sniff. This adds a little moisture and weight to it. Now one more thing you can try that works for people is bringing your fingers up to nose enough to restrict the air flow. This also creates turbulence so the air & snuff just doesn’t shoot straight down the nasal canal. Also mix around with the amount of force you sniff at while doing this. Sometimes a short fast harder sniff works for people
I have a modified snuff spoon/dab, swipe, and pinch method that works perfectly for me everytime. Instead of using a snuff spoon, I use a stainless steel collar stay (you can get a pack of 20 for $10) which I use to lift a portion of snuff from my box or tin. I then compress the snuff between the collar stay and the edge of the tin (it then somewhat sticks to the stay) and then I bring it to and into my nose, press the snuff against the inside of my nose, pinch my nose, and pull the collar stay out. It gets all the snuff in the front part of my nose which makes clean up easy. I get the same nic hit as with pinching, but no risk of sneezing or hitting the throat. The only downside is that it looks a little silly, so I tend to do it more in private and pinch in public. Cheers
Willymac, could tell me what exactly a collar stay is? I have never heard of it and therefore it is hard to visualize.
Yeah! In America most button down shorts have collars that you button down, but the other style which is more common is collars that don’t button so you put these little plastic or metal things in the tips of your collar to keep them stiff so they don’t fly up in your face. For eg go to www dot stiffstays dot com to see a picture of what the metal ones look like
Basically, it’s just smooth flat metal instead of a spoon
Ohhhh… I see now, I was thinking a cuff link type deal. If I see one around I will give a try. Thank you for the clarification.
