Doesn’t quite apply to every member here but I’m curious to hear other people’s stories involving using snuff to help quit smoking. Personally, I started using Swedish snus while I was ramping down my smoking and snuff came in the mail right around my last cigarette. I do vape at night when I’m home and usually only use snus at work or on the go now, but let me know how it helped for you!
Reckon I’ve had the same quitting manual you did , snus, a lil vape( started off with 1 juice and never finished it as my vape became only for other combustibles verdes lol ciggys were then only had on nights that I’m seeing a band or where there was copious amounts o’booze or to mask a tell tale odor. Snuff takes patience and makes it worthy of said patience I think. It’s helped in curbing all smoking activities to a near halt.
I had been smoking 30 + roll your own cigarettes’ a day for a good 8 years and smoking prior off and on for around 14. I believe I first read about Snus and the health statistics about its use, initially thinking Snus was a Swedish Nasal Snuff looking for it on my worldly travels.
I was traveling through Ireland last year primary on a holiday to find the Castle that had belong to our family for centuries many years ago, on my way out of Ireland staying in Dublin for a night I stopped in a local bar to have a pint, I saw the bar man having a pinch of snuff and offering it to the cook who had just came out from the back. I skulled the rest of my beer in attempt to get a bit of nerve to ask the man if it was snuff, I was worried it could be something else and get myself into a bit of trouble. Immediately after asking him a huge smile came across his face, he told me it was one of his favorites and offered me a pinch, it was McChrystals O&G made my eyes water but I loved it. He then directed me towards another pub down the street where he said his friend was selling it. I was so ecstatic since I had been asking everyone everywhere through Ireland for the previous 3 weeks but on my last day before flying out fate presented itself.
I owe quitting cigarettes to that day, the next day I had a long flight back to Australia which I always dreaded due to my heavy smoking so I though I’d give snuff a try on the flight back home. I was pleasantly surprised not only did I not have a cigarette in the smokers hall on the layover I was more than comfortable on the long flight which was a first for me in a very long time. It even made the airline food taste better although I did have quite the runny nose. Unfortunately when I arrived back in Australia my stash I had stocked up on was running dry so I took up smoking again before I found out to my delight that you could order online. Although at least when my first online order arrived I knew I could quit with snuff even though this second time was quite a lot harder due to my increased nicotine tolerance in the time between. All in all been around 7 months now with the occasional here and there, and I can actually breathe again without wheezing or coughing.
Sorry for the long story it kind of got away from me although all in all I owe it all and my renewed health to my good friend Snuff.
I used to be active on the Puff pipe smokers forum. Someone once mentioned snuff and I ignorantly laughed at the idea that it was a meaningful way of using tobacco or getting a nicotine hit. He challenged me to try it before commenting, so I ordered a small tin of Quit and Abraxas Premium Coarse. The rest is history. I haven’t really given up my pipe and cigars, and I don’t intend to, but I now rarely smoke during the day. Snuff is so much easier and more practical when I’m out and about, and I enjoy it jut as much or more, so now smoking is for relaxation with friends in the evenings or other times when I feel like it.
I started dipping snuff when I was probably 7yr old because my older brother did it. My dad smoked and I would sometimes still the butts and go smoke them. He used to whoop me for that as he had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Used chewing tobacco off and on. I started getting my own packs when I was 15 and was smoking and dipping at the same time. Decided when I was around 20 that I need to stop one of them and stopped dipping. When I was around 37 my dad got copd. I stopped smoking the next day and picked up dipping again. When I was 47 my dad passed from the copd. All my life I used to see the WE Garrett can at the stores and always wanted to try it. Talking to a neighbor one night, dry snuff came up and decided to try it next time I was at the store. Only one store left that was selling it. Took a pinch like I was taking a dip. Just about ran off the road after that. Looked on line on how to sniff and found this forum and Mr Snuff. Been using snuff for 2yrs now. Do not use dip anymore! I wish I would have tried it when I was younger or wish I never would have started tobacco altogether. But it is what it is and love the toast, scotch and the wonderful schmalzler.
