What was your first snuff you ever sniffed?

For me, it was Wilsons of Sharrow - Tom Buck.

@Transistor : I read that that was your first snuff too!  Damn good snuff.

If there is a duplicate topic somewhere that I over-looked, please feel free to close this bugger lol

D

Molens Latakia AO 1860 - I still love that stuff to this day.

S

Garrett Scotch

B

W.E. Garrett Sweet & Mild…only thing they had at the corner liquor store/smoke shop, but turned out that was okay.

X

Copenhagen, because I had no clue.  Well, it says “snuff” on it!

After that I think it was either Three Thistle or Railroad Mills.

S

Toque Original, then F&T Old Paris. I definitely got off to a running start.

T

Levi Garrett, followed by Tom Buck

P

Gletscherprise

B

Navy in the mid 80’s. Those two pinches lasted me 20+ years. Toque Pomegranate was the one that truly started me on this path.

T

O&G

B

Mid 80’s in the highschool lunchroom one day we laid out giant lines of Tube Rose across the table and had a contest to see who could take the most in a single snort…not the greatest of ideas but was my first ever.

S

O&G. A friend brought me over a tin from England. Though nice, the menthol felt like sacrilege and I quickly found one of the few places in Toronto that carries McC’s SP. Eventually I was ordering from Wilsons (Sharrow). But I still keep a tin of O&G about and take a daily pinch.

T

@mikemoose TB was one of them but I think my VERY first was SG Raspberry to be honest- however that was from a sneeze box so I consider TB to be my first REAL experience

D

Navy Sweet. Certainly not the best for a first pinch.  Dental was my second.

P

Navy Plain.   Yeah…it hurt (I was somewhere between 8-10 years of age).  Luckily, it didn’t scare me away forever.

A

About 1971. I got a Rumneys, a Hedges and a Top Mill No 1 and tried each plus one in a silver coloured plastic tin that must have been very space age for the time. I was seven.

Come to think of it: can any of the ‘old masters’ on the site remember a mentholated snuff that came in a metalised, silver coloured, plastic container the size of a small, round WoS tin?

E

Sounds like Singleton’s.

B

Molens Prins Regent.

A

It was very out of place with the rest - metalic/silver plastic was like something from Mars compared to dear old Doctor Rumney with his eyes, behind which was playing a mental soundtrack along the lines of ‘I will kill and dismember you’, and had been playing, soothingly as long as he had lived?

C

Buttercup

S

I’m with @Xander on the Cope mistake.  After that, It was WoS’s Rum & Blackberry and McC’s Clove that got me into proper snuff.

J

First snuffs I purchased were O&G, Toque Original, Spanish Gem, and Molens Latakia AO 1860 -  with O&G being the actual first one I tried.

S

Mine was Poschl Lowen-Prise, about 5 or 6 years ago. I was offered some at a pub I used to go to. I never noticed anyone at the pub snuffing before or after that night, though - it seemed to be a one-off curiousity. I liked it though, asked where they got it from and bought a box of Lowen-Prise for myself.

However back then I only took it rarely as a novelty thing really, and it’s only been since early this year, February 2011, that I’ve taken snuff on a more regular basis, and investigated various different types. I still really like Lowen-Prise though.

M

@Snuffster : Honestly man that sounds like President by Poschl…  But I could be wrong…  Maybe a different one similar to it…?

C

My first experience using snuff was back in the late 70’s. Dr. Rhumneys Mentholyptus.

G

Poschl Gawith Apticot. I bought it at a local cigar shop 2 years ago around this very time and for the next week I took pinch after pinch while playing video games and drinking beer haha. Then my nose got really stuffy from it so I moved on to better things. I still come back for the occasional pinch though.

B

First pinch was Wow Coffee Bite

J

gallahers wit n wisdom

F

First pinch was about twenty years ago from a brick red plastic tap box. Can’t remember the brand as it was not mine, but i remember that it was heavily metholated and not to my liking as an ignorant teenager. Didn’t have another pinch for over a decade but so glad that I did.

M

Right on!  So cool to see different variations of first pinches!  I am glad I started this one :-P

D

Pöschl Ozona Menthol or Cherry, one or the other, can’t remember exactly which was first. They were the only snuffs available at the local tabaccheria.

O

My first snuff was one of the american scotches but I didn’t particularly like them a few years ago so my first snuff that I actually liked taking was WoS Prime Minister.

G

It was the more common by there I think, Poscl /Président.

J

My first pinch was nutmeg powder.

G

Athersons’ Jasmine

M

@Juxtaposer : Really?  :-P .  I guess to be HONEST, my first pinch was hot chocolate mix…

WHAT?

I was testing out the method and feeling…  Had to get some sort of bearings before I sniffed actual snuff…

S

Ozona cherry, only fruity snuff I’ve tried. I didn’t really care for it after sniffing vanilla toque that also came with my first order. I wouldn’t turn away a pinch though.

J

My first sniff was Toque Peanut Butter I think, which I’d ordered alongside Toque Coke.  I liked the Peanut Butter at the time, but after a while I became far more fond of the coke and I could really take or leave the Peanut Butter these days.

O

When I was a kid it was J & H Wilsons Top Mills. As an adult it was Poschl Ozona Raspberry.

D

Hedges L260. Nearly put me off for life. I don’t care for menthol…

T

I hope people got their starter info from someone that actually knows what they’re talking about…my “tobacconist” obviously didn’t. LOL!
My guy told me ALL nasal snuff had menthol in it and the second he told me that I CRAVED a snuff without menthol (JUST MY OPINION) ruining it.  And then I found Tom Buck and a new SNUFFER with TAD was formed.
I love snuff!!!

A

Probably ETTAN or some other Swedish snus, some twenty years ago. I know of an old gentleman here in Sweden who took ETTAN mainly in the normal way under the lip but also a few pinches in his nose…

S

Wilson’s Coffee Cream … luckily, I continued using snuff …

M

@snuffbrant: Absolutely Laughing Out Loud at that one!

M

Poschl Gletcher Prise

edm

S

funny as it is, @Mr. Nose … i kind of developed a strange liking to the Coffee Cream … not to be ordered again, mind you, but it grew on me.  Luckily, in the realm of coffee snuff … Wow Coffee Bite is a winner!

M

@snuffbrant:  G&H Tia Maria was the first snuff I encountered that had the kind of coffee flavor I wanted.  Unfortunately, I didn’t always want the floral undertones that come with it; I like the floral aspect, but not all the time.  SG Black Coffee has been my go to for coffee snuff ever since, though I do have QWS Irish Coffee on my list to try; now I will add Coffee Bite as well.  Both of Wilson’s coffee offerings seem rather dull and flat to my nose.  Thanks goodness Wilson’s makes lots to choose from.

J

My punk A$% of a friend let me try his dholakia white and didn’t tell me to sniff lightly and after I sniffed too hard I felt like my eyeballs were going to melt out of my face while he fell down laughing so hard.  Then I tried poschl apricot and now I’m happily addicted to nasal snuff!  I avoided dholakia white for a year after that and finally broke down and bought some a few months ago and now I really enjoy it.

T

Ozona President and more recently F&T Old Paris

S

@Mr. Nose … there is also Toque Espresso …

SG Black Coffee’s grind is too coarse for me … Wow Coffee Bite’s grind is a fluffy light grind … settles well.

M

@joesnuffer : LOL quite the trauma for a first sniff .  Glad you’ve returned to it!  I’ve never had D White, but I hear it’s a menace :-P

J

@MikeMoose It is definitely a snuff not to be taken lightly… wait… no take it lightly!!  hahaha  You know your doing it right if you can sniff D White and not go into coughing fits.  Takes some getting used to.

G

@Mr. Nose … there is also Toque Espresso …
@Mr. Nose … there is also Toque Espresso …

E

J&H Wilsons Medicated 99.  I snorted, rather than sniffed, and didn’t think of taking snuff for another 25 years.

F

@snuffbrant I must be the odd man out as I love WoS Coffee Cream. Agree with you on SG Black Coffee although I still like it quite a bit.

S

@furious … that is the beauty of snuff, right, and individual noses … we can appreciate the variety … and no two sniffs are the same.  :)  But, please don’t misunderstand me … i like WoS Coffee Cream … just that initial sniff, the first snuff-sniff ever for me … smelled a little like cow … gradually, as my senses got better … did i pick up the true scent of the snuff.  and do still enjoy it to date … as i am still working on that tin!

F

@snuffbrant Couldn’t agree with you more on that. No two pinches are exactly the same. I really notice this when snuffing indoors and then going outside shortly thereafter. What a change sometimes! Last night I did that with some Old Paris and detected violet for the first time.

H

My first sniff was either W.E. Garrett’s Sweet or Railroad.
I don’t advise these as first time sniffs.
Both are very strong and very dry.

J

Ozona President

M

I wouldn’t ever offer a pinch of something very strong / very fine/dry to anyone for a first time .  Who did that to you?!  @howdydave

S

A Garrett was my first snuff. When I first tried it you could find American scotchs most gas stations and groceries in the South. It was a long time before I revisited snuff

B

@howdydave  Yeah, Garrett’s Sweet was my first.  Honestly, it’s still the only snuff in my collection where I actually feel the nicotine.

C

My first snuff was W of S Crumbs of Comfort. Glad I stuck it out because the first time was hell. Have come a long way since that first sniff.

G

Poschl Ozona Raspberry.

G

Checkerberry

M

@Gimpy1261 : What is Checkerberry?

P

@MikeMoose it is a american scotch snuff and belongs to the 2-3 which not taste like the rest. it got the so-called wintergreen aroma and its very strong on that side. i really like it but i personally think it is some “love it” or “hate it” snuff. the taste works pretty well in the mouth too.

X

@prismaster Its not a scotch. Its rather dark, moist and coarse. Its one of only two non-scotches made by the major US companies. The other is Maccoboy.

P

@Xander yeah, the Maccoboy was the other one i had in mind but yeah you are right, if someone looks at the specific characteristics its not a scotch. the use it in the same way like the scotches anyway.

btw, i got both myself

M

WoS Burgundy. The beginning of the end. Smirk.

N

Some homemade PA snuff after finding out what snuff was and that I could make it.  Liked it and placed an order.  My first real sniff of snuff was Gawith Cola.

M

Ozona Raspberry.

B

Back in the 80’s I picked up some German menthol tap box. Can not remember what it was? Recently I got a tinof Ozona orange, and F/T old Paris. That got me to mr. Snuff and two good size orders later, I am hooked.

H

Well to follow the trend, my first pinch was probably pixie stick powder in middle school. First snuff was some home made stuff I made from a couple Benson and Hedges cigarettes, after which I flavored it with orange peel, and then another batch with menthol…after using those exclusively for a few days and no other form of nicotine intake (being a moderate dipper, half a can a day, along with 2-3 cigs) I decided I could use this to really step off of the others. Now, my first name brand pinch was Tube Rose…not bad, but clogged me up bad, which my home made didn’t do…then I got some Superior and adored it, and this was just weeks ago, so yeah, here I am!

H

*edit button not working so double post- though I still am making home made with cigarettes, only now it’s American Spirit cigs since it’s additive free.

F

For my first I picked up a can of WE Garrett Sweet Scotch (the only one available where I live).  Nearly blew my brains out the first time.  Now I can take it without coughing, sneezing or clogging up my sinuses.

E

Wos ice licorice

G

Linda Powell first grade in the cloak closet!

Oops. I my mind wandered off there for a minute.

Railroad Mills Maccoboy

M

A big, deep snuff of Dental Mild from the local grocery. I remember coughing, running into the bathroom, looking into the mirror to see bloodshot eyes and my face looked like all of my freckles had run together! I switched to Checkerberry then SLOWLY came back to the Dental Mild=lesson learned.

M

Gimpy1261, LOL

D

First tried Poschl’s Red Bull about 5-6 years ago but after that when i started using snuff daily couple months ago my second sniff was Ozona Cherry.

M

a raspberry snuff and a white menthol non-tobacco snuff I bought in a head shop back in 1967, can’t remember the brand names though, well, I can’t remember much about that whole decade, lol.

S

McChrystal’s Raspberry if my memory serves me.

J

J&H Wilson’s SP No.1 (at about the age of 15 I think, so 1986, when you could still get it in most tobacconists).

L

SG Apple for me ^-^ Wonderful, less apple than I expected but out of all the snuffs I’ve had, it has the strongest tobacco scent. Just my opinion. Wilsons Tom Buck is my favorite at this point. Would like to try Dholakia White soon here, but I think I will try out their Black product first.

R

ozona spearmint, it had probably been sitting in a box for quite some time before I got to it… bought it at a head shop where they sold “snuff paraphernalia” and had to have some kind of snuff to sell next to it as to not look too shady… but hey, it kept me off the cigarettes for two years before I found out there was way more to snuff than two year old $1.50 tap boxes!

C

Rooster

T

Packard’s Club.  The first time I thought my nose was going to implode.

N

My VERY first snuff was Ozona President. I got a bundle of four kinds of snuff from a good friend of mine and it contained QWS Jasmine, the President, Toque Toffee, and Toque Espresso. I tried all of them within about 15 minutes. Out of all of those, the only ones I still use regulaly are President and QWS Jasmine. It seems to me that I like snuffs that have a very strong scent.

H

W.E. Garrett Sweet Then I found the European snuffs… Then I found the Indian snuffs.

D

My first was Bruton scotch snuff… and… It was yesterday…lol

J

Mine was made by Poschl i believe. It was either Gletscherprise , Apricot or President , bought’em all when I saw them and couldn’t tell’em apart , all i got was menthol. Snuff wasn’t doing much for me until I ordered some toque though. I huffed away at the raspberry like crazy. I still have the Poschl tins tucked away somewhere.
